Obviously the Jets are gonna snag the #1 pick and probably land Trevor

They wouldn’t need Sam Darnold at that point...

Darnold is stuck on a bad team with a bad coach..

Who knows how well Dak recovers after that nasty injury.....I would trade Dak for a 1st and trade for Darnold
He looked damn good. Im good with Dak but there are several teams I think will coough up their 1 for a chance at him.

What is it that everyone loves about Darnold? He wasn’t even that great at SC. Very perplexing.....

:clap::clap:beat me to it. We are seeing the same issues now he had in college. The dude can't handle pressure, folds like a cheap suit (lol).

Not a chance anyone coughs up a 1 and pays him.

There will be similar talents available in Free Agency for less.

Nobody is going to look at a Honda Accord and say let me pay a Lamborghini price for it besides our stupid team.

I'd like to have Darnold, but more than the question of what you have to give up for him, is what you're going to have to pay him.

If he ends up being a good quarterback, you're going to pay him $30-something million anyway by 2022.

Could a team offer him a new contract now? Say $25 million a year on a 5 year contract. Guaranteed money being the most important part obviously. Some might say why would he accept that well because he might end up like Rosen once the Jets draft Lawrence. Banished without being given a chance with a good offense and HC. Balance that with him flourishing in a new team who has given him that chance. 49ers would be the type of team I could see making that type of move given Jimmy G has had injuries and they can get out of his contract.

We will end up stuck with Prescott and his contract so my post is more of a general point of view.

A team could do that, but I don't really think any of them would. That's a big bet on a guy who hasn't been good to this point.

agree not sure why hes being overrated so much hes destined to be a career backup who can win stars if needed for longer relief like Fitzpatrick..I mean how is Fitz sio underrated dude does nothing but change teams and win a lot more games then his talent level says he should..

No way anyone on this thread replaces dak, thats crazy.

now if we have to go that route we need to pick up a left over like other did on the offseason like tb12, rivers etc a bridge to the next guy, Rosen and Darnold are NOT it..

we do nee a contingency plan because i do not know how Dak responds to a 32nd FT a NE TAg he doesnt get he offers he likes , he may hold out. we may have to trade him , not sure where his mind is but my gut tells me the DC FO goes to him with the exact same last contract offered and asks him for team discount given the injury, cap being lower, etc etc

I do not think Stephen comes in with Watson or Mahomes market in mind, they may up the guaranteed money with few protections in for his ankle but the AAV will be under 35 , my gut , doesnt mean its true but this could get ugly in February..

we must have a plan, does dalton stay? not sure GG is nice Backup but real plan we might need Vet being cut loose this offseason as a plan for backup and to start if this gets ugly with Dak..

Right...he is even a worse turnover machine than wINTz is.. comes from a long line of over rated SC QBs, ..no thanks, I would guess his second contract in the NFL will be as a journeyman QB. He is not a franchise QB.

It depends on the guaranteed money.

I think Mahomes would have struggled to sparkle under Gase and the weapons the Jets have had over the past few years.

The Jets have had a horrendous offense for a young QB. Jury is still out on Darnold but it's one of those where if a team still believes in him he could turn out to be a bargain. Conversely he could turn out to be a car crash.

Yea, I mean I understand your point, I just don't see it happening.

If the guarantees are low...then why would Darnold do it? Darnold's next contract only makes sense if it is short term - a la Brissett.

another genius thread at the zone. If QB were a necessity and its not you would draft one and have them on the rookie contract. Is Darnold going to play in secondary or at LB. Perhaps in the middle up front. or even on the line those are thie positions with shortcomings.
