Maybe it's because I became a fan during the Phillips/Romo era, but I don't have an expectation for championships. The 5 we do have are a past glory, not a future expectation.

The Garrett era was comfortable in a lot of ways - obviously we had critically flawed teams that could never get over the hump, but there was an 8-8 baseline standard. Dallas would at least be watchable. This year has just been pain. Even 2015 wasn't this bad.

If the Cowboys can return to 8-8 watchable football, I can live with that. Even if we lose but can keep it close, that's OK. I just want to be entertained here. Giving up four 200 yard rushing games in twelve isn't entertainment, it's misery.

This board was apoplectic when the Rams bulldozed us for 200 yards in the 2018 divisional game. Now that's just a weekly expectation.

The last time I got mad at a Cowboys game was the 2007 team losing to the giants as the #1 seed. I haven’t been mad at a single loss since.
I’m not sure mad is how I’d describe it. More of disappointment. And I expected us to be be there more often following that year.

2014 was heartbreaking loss in Green Bay. That was the most painful to me . I think our best team this past decade+.

He's not wrong! They are, Steelers are, Pats are even though they have taken a bit of a step back this year but don't count them out. The blueprint is out there yet these front office nimrods refuse to copy and paste. There are a few other team NO.GB perhaps
Not many bigger critics of our dysfunctional organization than me but they have been able to remain mostly relevant without following those models.

And why Jethro has been able on the most part to stick with his foolish ways of operating. And I don’t expect much to change beyond a few tweaks occasionally with coaching staff.

Winning or building a championship caliber team obviously isn’t a priority. And hasn’t been for years.

Couldn't you hear that in Aikman's voice last night when he made that comment about them having so much to address. There was sadness in his voice, resignation.
I really wish more former players would call Jerry out. Aikman has been telling it like it is for years. Would love to see Roger, Emmitt, Bob Lily, Michael Irvin, Larry Allen...all the guys that take pride in the Star and have already been installed in the ROH and HOF call him out and say this organization is an embarrassment.

If only he'd step back and hire a real GM

Brother Haze I think the issue is more complex: players and coaches come and go so does scheme and we still stuck in a vicious circle
The Jones are good people but lousy in managing this team..... they should back off and let someone else run it. You can't own a team and micro mange it. It create a chaotic hierarchy.

Others have . Jimmy of course and who Troy has much aligned with. On some occasions Roger and others have offered some criticism while offering accolades as well.

The difference with Troy is he has the bigger stage as the lead color commentator. And it’s his character to speak his mind and why he’s so respected around the league. Remember he was critical as a player too calling out Switzer , etc. It’s in his DNA.

Dew Pearson and Charlie Waters did for years on their radio show. And probably why Drew was shunned for years in ROH by Jethro. Others have offered some criticism over the years.

reps the young guys are getting are invaluable. several are developing nicely. by the end of season, staff should have a legit assessment of who to keep and who to let go.
This right here, we might have the deepest OL in the league next year due to 2020 starters.

Unpopular answer- Dak gives me hope. Whether you want to pay him all that money or not is another discussion but at this point nothing but Dak gives me hope.
I don't 100% agree, but I can understand why you think that. I'm still not sure he is but I can see why others do.

Good post.

But that’s not gonna happen. He’s stayed true to his word going back to 2-25-1989. I’m not sure why more fans can’t grasp.

IK if he got dementia or something he wouldnt know. "Ya dad youre still running things" Its Christmas time we can wish lol

After the last 25 years, it is clear- Jerry Jones and his front office don’t know how to build a winner. Period. It’s not even something that’s arguable. They don’t know what they are doing. The results speak for themselves. Some clear evidence:
  • Jerry’s teams in the 21st century have made the playoffs 7 times in the last 21 seasons.
  • After the great draft haul of 2016, this team hasn’t made the playoffs 3 of the last 4 years.
  • In the last 25 seasons including this one since we won a divisional playoff game, we have had 6 head coaches, 7 different OCs, and 8 different DCs. And the same GM. And 4 playoff wins.
I could go on. But my question is this- where is the hope? I’m not joking or being sarcastic. Serious question. What is the hope Cowboys fans can hang on to?
  • Is our hope pinned to believing we will get healthier next year, thus greatly improve?
  • Is our hope based on the fact we will have good draft position?
  • Is hope now based in somehow believing the Jones boys have learned something?
  • Should we forget the two decades plus of evidence that Jerry literally doesn’t know what he’s doing as GM?
I’m serious when I ask what gives you as a Cowboys fan hope for the future?

The only hope I have- two things- Having good luck and being able to acquire so much talent, it can overcome the completely clueless GM. That’s it.

My hope is based on two things: 1) Jerry Jones's age, he can't live forever; and 2) Stephen appears to be more pragmatic.

Dak coming back healthy.
Tyron coming back healthy.
Zack coming back healthy.
La'el coming back.
Trevon coming back.
a top 5 draft pick...a CB...paired with Diggs for the next decade....or a Micah Parsons at LB to help this defense....or Sewell...a franchise OT.
and.
hopefully.
a real off-season.

I dont really know. Great question and post per usual btw...

Maybe the blind squirrel thing....

I'm not really sure. I just dont know of any alternatives. I do know this will be less important in my life if things continue in this direction.

They seem to have a great season every time I write them off...and the opposite as well.

I see little chance for improvement next year, so they will probably go 12-4.

Theres the hope for the rest of you.
