Why we need defense in 2021

Take the best player and move on to the next pick. Last year through 5 rounds we picked 4 defensive players. It may still pay off, if it didn’t help much in 2020.

Would we have been any better taking chaisson instead of lamb in last years draft?

this team still needs online depth, possibly at least one starter. TE isn’t urgent but could be upgraded. QB? Eh let’s not go down that rabbit hole right now, but if you get an impact offensive player rd 1, and your next 3 picks are defense is anyone complaining?

I was extremely surprised and happy to see how these young offensive linemen played last night. Only 1 sack allowed against on of the better defenses in the league. Pass protection was as good as I've seen since all the starters were playing in week 1 before they started falling in week 1. All these injuries have been a blessing in disguise because now we don't have to target an offensive lineman in the draft. We can pick up some FA's for depth and possibly draft one in the later rounds. La'el will be back. Biadez will be back. Martin will be back. Tyron? Who knows but these youngsters played well last night.

Dak has led this offense to the #1 offense in the entire NFL last year and this year until he went down. The Cowboys as of last night still had the #9 offense in the NFL because of what Dak accomplished in his 5 games. Jarwin will be back and Cee Dee will even be better. Why take a chance on some QB who has all the physical talents like a Ryan Leaf when you don't know what's in his heart? You don't. You use your high draft pick and parlay those into more picks if possible and build your defense. No doubt get rid of Nolan. He's not the answer. He hasn't adjusted to his talent. There are some solid young players to build on going forward. Diggs, LVE, Dlaw and maybe some others. We still need a ton of talent on defense and the only way to do it cheaply is through the draft.

This is why I have hope. We're not too far away despite JJ's incompetence. We're going to be picking high in every round and already have 9 draft picks next year and can end up with even more is Jones plays his cards right. We've done good in the draft recently so there's hope. Pinning all your hopes on wasting a draft pick on a QB in the 1st round is naïve, short sighted and stupid and it's why the Cowboys will not do it.

I dont think drafting a QB is what most of us think. some dont like Dak but I wouldnt take anything a select few say as serious and Im not gonna call them out you know who they are. That said I wouldnt take last night Oline performance against the Raven as an idicator as they have turned the corner. I dont think the Ravens are the browns or the WFT or Rams up front and I also dont think the Ravens blitzed near as much as they normally do.

I do think when we get healthy we have the potential to a darn good line but if somehow Sewell landed in our laps and we cannot trade down it might be hard to pass up. From a defensive perspective I say the biggest needs are a tie between everything and the back 11. I truly hope Cincinnati loses to us so that question mark is taken off the table. I think our closest competitor for futility besides them is Philly and with their DLine i think they can muster a win against us.

LB Parsons is someone I like but I like Farley and Surtain at CB as well just not at 4. I think the Eagles will take Jamar chase anyway but them winning a game or 2 and us holding them hostage over him wouldn't be a bad thing

Also, just counting money poorly spent on defense this year, we have a good chunk of money for the defense in FA, and showed the will to use that money this year.

Jaylon, Crawford, McCoy, Poe, Dix, Griffen, Worley. 30mil(?) we got *nothing* out of.

That we've been spending so poorly on defense, both in the draft and now in FA, is a worry. But we have the ammo to make a big move.

1. Most NFL teams aren't good at defending.. Get used to it.

2. We are a looooong way from being a good defense.

3. Our year upgrades will be rookies.. That will keep us chasing our tail and forever in mediocrity.

If you want to skip mediocrity and no shot at a Superbowl for at least the next 3 years then you draft a QB, do a quick rebuild, and use the money and the rest of the draft picks to over the next 3 years to rebuild the defensive front 7 and Offensive Line that is currently trending down.

But go ahead.. Sign Dak.. Add some rookies... I'll sit back and watch you guys make excuses about the team around him not being good enough. Maybe in 4 or 5 years when the cap expands enough then we can hopefully have built the utopian football team Dak requires.

But for the near future.. Get used to seeing the 2019 & 2020 Cowboys.

Not sure how anyone can say the Cowboys are "close." It might be true that we "just" need defense, but we need about seven new starters there, and that's a multi-year construction effort. And we also need to start planning for life w/o Tyron, which makes me very sad.
Because we already have the #1 offense in the NFL. Just need a decent defense and the sky’s the limit.

No one said that last nights offensive line is the end all. However they did prove that they are worthy of keeping for if nothing else solid backups. As I said in the post, Martin, La’el, Biadez and at least for the first few games Tyron will all be back. So offensive line is not a priority. If Sewell is there take him otherwise trade back and draft defense, defense defense.

If I'm a stud in the draft and I get wind that the Cowboys might draft me I immediately call my agent and threaten to go back to school or retire before I would play for these clowns.

Have to trade down and get multiple picks. One top pick in a poor top tier Defensive draft is not going to fix this defense. We need like 8 or 9 new players on Defense that can upgrade someone from the Draft and FA...

Just me, I'm guessing we won't be the only top 10 team wanting to trade down. My point, it won't be as simple/easy as we think. Be prepared to stay home and make the pick.

Can I be your water boy? Only if you let me shoot some pigs on your ranch. In exchange, I’ll put you on some Redfish and Trout.
Love Redfish. I sold my last place on South Padre a few months back. Haven't gone fishing since!

Agree. The teams hanging in there right now are ones who can hang their hat on a D when all else fails. We have no such luxury. Giants are not good but they are riding a D.

I too can hang my hat on my D. This trick almost always impresses.

I don't need a Giant riding it though.

Dak has led this offense to the #1 offense in the entire NFL last year and this year until he went down. The Cowboys as of last night still had the #9 offense in the NFL because of what Dak accomplished ".

And we won 8 games with Dak last year and 1 with him this year. He chokes against the good teams, choked away the division title last year, and can't compete with good defenses until the opposing team is 20 points ahead and let him score.
Even Jerry Jones acknowledges that.
And no one here would blame the defense for losing games in 2019.
Dak throws the ball into the ground on 4th down and misses receivers by 10 yards with his passes.
He can't help it, and I don't blame him for it. He's just not a leader in the quarterback position.

Agree with everything you said hope you didn’t take my post as combative because that wasn’t my intent : I do have very little faith in Tyron though but yes defense is a priority
