Lamb was supposed to fall on the ball instead of fielding it and returning it for a TD. He said he heard it from the coaches when he got back to the sideline. No one was mad or anything but Mcarthey said that is something that will be discussed during team meetings. I didn't see anything wrong with what he done but that is just me. What do you think? I know they are taught to fall on the ball and end the game since anything can happen if you return it.....

Yes. Technically he should have just fallen on it. But, I think he was so surprised at how wide open the path to the end zone was so he just went. Plus it's not like he dove on the ball and then got up, it bounced right up to him.

I guess the safest thing to do would be to fall on the ball, give it to the offense to run out the clock. And it made sense at the time.

But always playing it safe isn’t how you consistently win NFL games.

What if he fell on it, and on the next offensive play, the C snaps it way over Dalton’s head and SF recovers? Not likely, but it can happen.

I think it was fine to run it back. There aren’t many circumstances in football where it’s good not to score. Statistically those situations happen, but I don’t know if this was one of them.

I agree with what he did. It's much easier to mishandle a ball by falling on it in that circumstance. He saw he had a good bounce and an easy catch with no one nearby - that shows me good judgement in this case. He could've easily slapped it our of bounds if he lost control of it.. Falling on it would've been higher risk given it was WR Lamb (good hands) who grabbed it.

Smart football seems to only be appreciated when dumb mistakes occur. It’s like not getting upset at a DB for intercepting a Hail Mary but getting frustrated the time it is tipped and caught for a TD. You play smart football to avoid the dumb mistake.
