Did Dalton play himself into a starter contract?

Not true. Cincy was in full rebuild mode and had the top pick in the draft. It would have made no sense for them to continue paying a 32 year old Dalton knowing they were drafting Joe Burrow.

Especially since Dalton played like garbage in all 4 of his playoff games. He even had a top 10 defense behind him and it didn't matter.

Yes probably in the 35 million a year range. Don't know if we can afford Andy at that, but we'll see.

LOL

Short and sweet, but honest...NO!

Backup, yes, Gilbert first though, then him.

He failed getting Boys into playoffs. Consequences.

He's a less athletic Dak Prescott with a better arm. Go look at Daltons first 4 seasons.... you are obviously unfamiliar with Cincy and have to fall back on stats without any context.

No way is Dak anywhere near Andy in terms of the quick release, getting the ball out quickly. short passing game. This idea Dak would have been better in the context Andy worked with, with his play-action dependent offense is almost ridiculous. Dak threw more play action passes in five games than Andy did in 11.

True. For his ability to "read a defense" he sure held on to the ball for way too long on at least half his sacks and never had the lead against a pretty terrible Giants team.

MAYBE if the D produced a 3rd turnover, Dalton could have won it. But to expect the D to produce 3 turnovers every game just for a CHANCE to win is not realistic.
But expecting a QB to perform with that oline is realistic?

Well, ya kind of have to. It was the same oline from the previous 3 games which we won.

But I also saw a QB, despite knowing the line was not great, being an experienced veteran, and seemingly having the ability to call out protection, continually hold on to the ball for way too long and double pump a handful of times.

I would have expected Romo to play better behind the same oline (which he did behind far worse ones), and I would have expected Dak to perform too.

Just like you can only play who is on the schedule, you can only play with who dresses on gameday. It sucks sometimes, but that's why they get paid to play a child's game.

Yeah, he was so bad he rushed for 48 yards on 7 carries against all that pressure..
dalton was the leading rusher for the cowboys today lol.
At times he played good, at times he was bad.
I blame MM and his poor game mgmt, another poor game plan, and kellen being a horrible OC.
1st and goal at the 7, you run the ball , not drop back and pass when the dl is getting to your qb over and over. It is just common sense,
whick kellen doesnt seem to have.
The other thing is the "great" lol cd lamb drops a pass right in his hands and he might have scored had he caught it, so did he choke too?? Seems like it.
Or maybe cd just didnt care, he seemed to be ok with his drop, like no big deal.
Our TE led the team in yds, so that isnt good, is it play calling or just the other guys cant get open.
Giants db's played pretty good today, and their DL beat our OL all game.

So only the dummys will blame the qb for the loss.

I think andy played himself into a starting job, elsewhere, but his showing today probably takes that away .

I would bring Marvin Lewis in - in some capacity not just for Andy but for Dak too and because he's actually a good coach.

Andy Dalton seems to be on a good streak this Kellen gun offense and 3 game win streak ,, seem like he's gain great confidence and rhythm en route to big plays in pass game

this could make him look more attractive in the FA market .. teams like the Pats, ..or Washington that could have really used him

His age (33 yrs) will be something going against him long term. but i could see Pats signing him as a stopgap starter until a a grooming young buck draftee is ready to take the wheels

He's like a Ryan Fitzpatrick

:D
Ryan Fitzpatrick has how many playoff wins?

I think Dalton will get a stop gap starter deal.
He's going to be competing with guys like Brisset, Trubisky, Rivers, Fitz, RG3, Tyrod Taylor.

I think that 12-15M AAV for 2 years is what he is looking at.

NE, Indy, TB, NO, SF, are all well coached/build teams who could want a vet QB to start short term next year.
And there just aren't that many answers out there.
Failing those he could run it back as a very high end back up but at a larger salary.
Teams like ARI, Rams, SEA plus places with kids like JAX. NYJ may want a high end vet back up.

Realistically from Dallas POV you just want him to sign a large AAV deal so you can get a high comp pick as he's almost certainly luxury you can't afford.

I’m not sure. Looks like we may have 5 first round qbs drafted. Gardner menshew likely available, tyrod Taylor, Winston, trubisky, fitzmagic, brissett all set to be free agents. Not sure how many qb openings we see this year but there will be a ton of competition
Those guys don't appeal all that much honestly.
And teams drafting non top 10 QBs are probably not trying to start them year 1 week 1. So basically factor in 3 rookies starting by design.
There may be as many as 10-12 teams with QB openings but some of that will involve shuffling off ones they have to the QB pool.

Andy showed his limitations here but also that he still has an NFL arm. I think he'll be a good fit for someone in a timing based system.

Lol-who cares?
he was sacked five times and threw a dumb interception and should have been picked off four others due to pressure.

and still lost.
Exactly, Our QB put up 35 and blame him, lol. Dak average almost 400 yards a game passing and Dalton average what low 2 something. But Dalton is better, lol. Dak had to score every possession or else we getting blown out.

You listing the Colts and Saints is somewhat premature. Rivers is the NFL iron man, and if Indianapolis goes on a deep playoff run, he would want to stick around and go for it again. Brees, on the other hand, probably closer to stepping away after this postseason sinced he suffered serious injuries the last two years.
If the Saints happened to go all the way, Brees would definitely retire - going out on top.

Brees reportedly has already decided ot retire either way. He suffered 11 cracked ribs this year.

Rivers has already agree dot a job coaching HS in Alabama upon retirement and said he'd definitely retire if he didn't return to the Colts.
Colts reportedly have been one of the few teams calling the Eagles about Wentz.

But all in all you are correct that there are a lot of musical chair stuff going on and no one has actually retired until they make it official.
Some guys change their mind 3-4 times.

One way I stay sane concerning roster management with this team is trying to see things through Jerry Jones' eyes. And I have not seen anything that Jerry Jones has seen that will prompt him into extending a starter contract to Andy Dalton. That said, it would not surprise me if another team *might* consider doing so. Which team is the question.
Not sure how Jerry even sees thru his own eyes with how bloodshot they are.
