Agreed, that could've changed the outcome of the game. And if our defence could stop a reverse, we probably could've beaten Cleveland. That gets us to 8-8 instead of 6-10. That would've clinched the division. Oh, if our defence could stop a nosebleed and if Zeke doesn't take a safety, we would've beaten Seattle. 9-7 if all results stay the same, but that was one of a few games coming into the season I thought we might lose. So, that'd easily have clinched our division even if Dak were to still have gone down. Now, that'd have sucked for us to have to watch Dalton try to win a playoff game, which he's never done. Just goes to show how much Dak means to this team. Obviously, like any QB, it'd help him to have a defence, but Dak's leadership and abilities are good for more wins than his absence would've caused. Oh, and think Dak would've lost to the likes of the Cardinals (they spanked us, because we couldn't throw a pass), Philly in Philly with how Wentz was playing, and gotten swept by Washington? Nah, I don't think so. Oh, and I think we would've beaten Pittsburgh if Dak played that game.

You're preaching to the choir here brother.. No one will ever convince that Dak, if given the exact same defensive support Dalton and the other two stooges got against Philly and Pitt would not have won at least another 4 games over where we finished.. But I do wonder, if Dak and the offense keep putting up 35 a game does the defense ever get desperate enough to wake up? Do we get pissed off enough at Poe, Worley and Griffen to jettison them if Dak beats the Cards, the Ratscums, the Eagles, and Steelers? I mean do we make that move if we're 6-3 at the bye instead of 2-7? And if we don't make those moves does the defense finally start getting turnovers because they realize the offense can't do jack without some help or do they keep giving up 30+ ppg and we stumble to 8-8 or 9-7 .. win the division but get rolled in the playoffs? I'm excited to see what the offense looks like next year with (hopefully) all hands on deck. And I hope we're going to take a long hard look at our broken drafting philosophy when it comes to defense. We gotta get playmakers on defense or all the offensive firepower in the world won't save us..

DAL can’t do what your claiming right now. They don’t have the coin. Yes, maybe he softened but with the acquisition of his new agent who is notorious for going for the throat I doubt it.
Dak knows right now that,
He will be paid 37.5 MIL FULLY GUARANTEED if he just sits back and says no to everything hes offered and then will get a Cousins like contract the following year. Or.....
He will be released or traded and get the Cousins like contract even sooner.
THEY HAVE THE MONEY

ITS STRUCTURING THE CAP PROPERLY..teams do it all the time man, wake up..its all in the language and yearly pay out and bonus etc

Idk about that. Just shows how much deadweight Dak has had to drag over the last few seasons. IF anything, Jerry is putting him in a DISADVANTAGE because he's strapping him with deadweight and telling him to not only set records (which he has), but also carry tons of deadweight to a title. We definitely need playmakers on defence. That's why I've been pounding the table this afternoon for Leonard Williams.

This dude knows what you are saying is true.. He's just trying to get a rise out of folks by posting the same ole "Bad Luck Schleprock" routine over and over. "It'll never work..." "They'll never sign him.." "They don't have enough cap room..." Blah blah blah blah blah..

If anything, BECAUSE of the new TV deals that will be negotiated next offseason (the present deals expire after the 2021 season), THIS is the offseason to go all in on talent. This is the season to make those moves. The cap will be down this season, but the cap next season should be up. We can maneuver the cap to make the additions we need.

im sure year 1 -32
year 2-35
year 3-39

all guaranteed

helps the cap next season and year 4 could have an opt out or escalator to 40 if they go to a sb

just spitballing

Yeah that's the thing about what Dak was doing early.. He was covering up grapefruit sized warts on this team. By him going down and the offense going into the tank for 6-7 weeks we got a full dose of just how bad the defense was. Hopefully that display made Jerry mad enough to make a move. You can't keep a DC who presided over the worst defense in franchise history.. Doing that got Rob Ryan fired and Monte Kiffen after him.. It should yield the same fate for Mike Nolan.

Some here swear Dak is an elite QB. I think he's a good QB but nowhere near elite.
Yeah, but how many Elite QB's are out there?
Mahomes. Yes.
Is Drew still elite? He's about to retire. Brady? He's going out very soon.
Ben? I don't think so at this moment.
I think Rodgers is now a bit up and down, but still has elite-ness to him.
Maybe I'm missing someone?

Elite is rarified air my chum.

I think if they can get it to a 5 year deal they can cut that cap hit in the first two years even more. If Dak is truly the lifelong Cowboys fan he professes to be and winning championships is as important to him as I think it is, he will tell the NFLPA to go the hell and sign a team friendly deal. He has to know that if he does Jerry that solid it will be repaid to him tenfold when his playing days are over.. Especially if he bring another Lombardi to Dallas.

What’s the least amount of money Dak would accept in year one of a 4 yr contract?
Remember. DAK can just not sign anything and he gets 37.5 MIL FULLY GUARANTEED for one year. Or he gets released and gets the supposedly giant mega deal he wants elsewhere. Oh, and as of today DAL has 27 MIL in cap space. Not even enough if they wanted to give him the tag. They have to dump players just to get over that hump.
You do know how contract structure manipulates the cap, right?
They can give a big signing bonus that spreads out to later years when the cap goes back up.

Yup, and it exposed the gaps there and showed just how big the mistakes were that we had signed. Seems to me that Jerry is going to keep Nolan another season. I'm not sure why, but I'm going to guess he'll point to the uptick in takeaways this defence got and say COVID and bad signings had an impact on it. So, I'm going to guess Nolan is going to get one season to turn it around. What we need is a big DT to pair with Gallimore, at least 2 LBs, and a S this offseason. Unless we get Sewell, I don't want to see an offensive pick in the draft until round 4 at the earliest. And if we go Sewell, then I don't want an offensive pick made until round 5 or comp 4.

well sure Jerry wantrs that but if dak turned down a 5year just last offseason and now with bugger FT coming, why would he take 5 now??

Yeah, that's where Sewell comes in. He's an absolute monster and, with Chase Young in our division, I can understand the logic of drafting him, especially if we sign Leonard Williams. However, that's the only way I'm not going defence in the draft that early.

Rogers is elite. F. F. S, man.
Mahomes yes. obviously.
Bray still elite. You don’t throw 40 TDS on your new team at 43 and not be elite. And you’d cut your left nut off to have him.
Wilson. Easily elite. Russell Wilson is putting up Steve Young MVP numbers. Wilson is tied for the 3rd most passing TDS in his 8 seasons.

27 MIL is not exactly a lot of change for a team entering the offseason. It’s gonna be really hard to shoehorn in.
Wilson! Thank you. I forgot him. You can spare me the for sakes man thing. That's not going to get you anywhere.
But still, my point is there are very few elite QB's out there and that still stands.

And the 27 milly thing? Even that can be manipulated.

Your right. They don’t grow on trees. Still should always be trying to get one, though.

It’s gonna be tight, man. They are already up against the cap. We will see.

True. But every team is going to be up against it. Not just Dallas.
Some not ideal contract situations are going to happen, but these are not ideal times.
You are right, we shall see.

I define elite as the top 10% at what you do. So in the NFL there are 64 starters and backup QBs.. So to be elite you gotta fall in that 6-7 range ..

Mahomes? yes
Rodgers? yes
Brees? not any more
Brady? see Brees
Ruthlessraper? See Brees and Brady
Wilson? Yep
Watson? borderline
Cousins? Puhlease
Carr? Nope
Garrapolo? Nope
Goff? Nope
Wentz? Nope
Ryan? choses too much in the clutch
Stafford? borderline
Rivers? Too many picks
Jackson? took a step back this year
Allen? trending but not quite there yet
Tannehill? Too many games where all he does is handoff
Tribisky? garbage unless he's on a hot streak.. then he fools you.
Danny Dimes? LOL!
Murray, Mayfield, Burrow, Herbert, Lock, and Tagovailoa are all youngsters with an incomplete grade at this point.

Who am I missing? There is certainly no backup in the league that I would rank ahead of Dak so from this list the only ones I definitively rank ahead of Dak are Mahomes, Rodgers and Wilson. I think Watson and he are close and I could even be talked into giving Watson the nod.. I'm not taking Carr, Wentz, Goff, Stafford, or Rivers over Dak. I might be talked into Josh Allen but it's still tight. He's got a really good team around him but he's also playing really good ball. So even if I put Allen and Watson ahead of him that places Dak no worse than 6th or 7th. So whether people like it or not, Dak belongs in that elite company. And with what he was doing before getting hurt he might have vaulted up near the very top this year.. We have to wait till next year to see if he can take that next step..
