Explain that to Bill Belichick.

Bill Belichick is one of the few coaches who has a lot of say with regards to the football operations in NE. There isn't another HC out there that has that level of clout. So yea, he is able to acquire the talent he needs and isn't beholden to a GM and certainly isn't beholden to the idiot who is pretending to be a GM in Dallas. Wade Phillips was a terrible HC but no one would say that he was a bad co-ordinator. The same thing should apply here. Just because Dan Quinn wasn't a good HC doesn't mean he magically forgot how to coach defense.

Ok, so he was Seattle's Legion of Boom D-Coordinator before he went to be head coach for the Falcons.

What happened in Atlanta? Where was his Legion of Boom there?

That happens a lot though. Being a great OC or DC, does not always translate to a good HC. Wade for example. That Seattle D was a special D. And every great D in history has star players on it. How great were they after Quinn left? He'd be my top choice.

Gus Bradley built the legion of boom in all honesty
This. Of the names listed so far, Quinn is by far the most competent. He actually has positive experience as a playcaller. He was the DC when they won the SB. However he was coach Bradley's system with players Bradley developed

I am not sure who I prefer of the 2. Maybe Lewis. But does it matter if it is either or someone else. I will not get hyped over any DC until I see results on the field. I am just happy Nolan is gone at this point.
Of the two Id take Lewis. One could say Lewis is amoungst the greatest defensive minds off all time, and modernized defenses. It's been a LONG time since he was a DC though. Its a gamble, but a big payoff of it goes well.

Quinn has proven to be a quality play caller. However it still remains to be seen if he can actually build a defense

True. It is also true that he had studs everywhere on that defense.
Earl Thomas
Richard Sherman
Kam Chancellor
Bobby Wagner
Michael Bennett
KJ Wright
Bruce Irvin
Chris Avril

These guys were all in their prime. When he didnt coach the above players, what did he do?

Maybe we could get Charlie Weis too. Did you see what he did with New England?
Did he have that talent inAtlanta when he coached them to the Super Bowl in 2016 and whipped the legion of boom along the way. What is Belichick with out Brady. Jimmy without the triplets. Come on man stop with the talent argument.

Firstly, i wouldn't be so dismissive about legion of boom. It's very possible the falcons fo wanted to concentrate on offense just like the cowboys. The interview should concentrate on what he would do here. What playwrs would keep? What do you see as positions of need. Quinn, imo, would be a good choice.

Some people around here are hard to please. Dan Quinn is very qualified. His struggles as a HC don’t mean he isn’t qualified to be a DC.

I would be fine with hiring Quinn

it may or may not work out. But at least they’re interviewing somebody who is very qualified for the job and gives them a good chance of being successful

Dan Quinn, the former Falcons head coach? I don't remember the Falcons ever having a very good Defense. How is he a good choice for D-Coordinator?
He made his name at SEA, just like Richard, where the most hands on HC with his D coaches. Carroll built the Legion of Boom, the GM even stated that in an interview.

These DC's like Quinn, Ryan, Kiffin, Lewis and even Phillips made their names with exceptional talent, do the Cowboys have that?

Thomas and Sherman are available ;)

In reality, I wouldn’t mind Sherman for one year to help bridge Surtain / Farley how to play in the league.

Sounds like he’s the guy and I could see Whitt as secondary coach. Count me as against the hire. It’s a return to what didn’t work under the last regime.

At this point, it’s what it is and going to be. It will be an older retread from the league. We aren’t going to hire a hidden college gem or an up and coming guy.

With that being said, Quinn is about as good as it’s going to get.
