/RALEIGH, N.C. -- Following a phenomenal year -- and now career at NC State -- Alim McNeill was named a Pro Football Focus All-American for the 2020 season. McNeill was graded out as the highest-ranked interior defender with a 90.5 this fall, making him the clear choice for PFF's All-American at the position.

Here's the full write-up on McNeill from the Pro Football Focus release:

INTERIOR DEFENSIVE LINE
First-Team: Alim McNeil, NC State
McNeil played 87% of his total snaps at heads-up nose tackle this year, making his production nothing short of incredible. Only one player since 2014 has produced a higher PFF grade at 0-technique than McNeil’s 90.5 this season (former Mississippi State Bulldog and current Tennessee Titan Jeffery Simmons in 2017).

McNeil won 10% of his pass-rush snaps at nose tackle, an impressive figure in its own right, but the reason for his success is all due to his run defense. He was a constant disruptor and fully deserved the 92.1 run-defense grade on the year.

McNeill finished the season with 25 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss and one sack and one forced fumble that he recovered. He also put in some DB-like stats with his one interception returned for a touchdown against Virginia -- which is now referred to as the "Thick Six."

Though his stats were actually down from the previous season as a sophomore (28 tackles, 7.5 TFL, 5.5 sacks), McNeill was nearly perfect as a run defender. The 6-foot-2, 320-pounder did not miss a single tackle across the middle, finishing with 11 tackles at or behind the line of scrimmage and finished with an average of -1.3 yards per tackle.

McNeill has already announced that he will forgo his senior season to enter the 2021 NFL Draft and has a chance to move into the Day 2 discussion with a strong NFL Draft Combine showing. He has not announced whether or not he plans to play in the Gator Bowl, but McNeill finishes with one of the most impactful careers of any defensive tackle in NC State history already.

What are your thoughts on this player?

Very intriguing to me. Quality anchor with the ability to utilized as a penetrator. 11 sacks over his career, but production did dip from 5.5 to 1 in 2020. Looks like a day 2 guy

Like him the best out of all the 1 Tech's in the class. Offers good run defense with some pass rush abilities. Not the pass rusher like Barmore is, but much better against the run. Team almost would have to take him at 44. He's my favorite at that pick, cause I know neither Bolton (my pet cat) or Moehrig will make it there.

Everything I have seen has him at 320

One of my favorite DTs in the class. One of the few that is balanced and can play both the run and the pass.

Seems like the best combo 1T/NT (can stuff the run and possibly play on passing downs). Tuefele from USC would also fit that mold, but McNeil has tape from THIS YEAR, so I’d get him first.

My thoughts are he is going to test VERY well at the combine and go much higher than people think. Would love to draft him.

Solid player. Comes from a program that has produced some good defensive line prospects in the last few cycles (Bradley Chubb, BJ Hill, Justin Jones, Kentavius Street).

he's one of the DTs i like and hope we get him.
strong.
tough.
solid v the run.
can get to the QB.
lot to like.

Early on McNeil is my favorite 1T also. I hadn't thought of considering Alim in the 2nd round, but he might shoot up boards. Regardless, this player should be heavy on the Cowboys radar, and yes I would support drafting him at 44. Hopefully a trade back will develop and they can have two 2s.

Love Bolton. He’s a heat-seeking destroyer.

100%...dude is a stud and one of the few balanced DTs in the draft.

Would love to see him there in the 3rd round when we are on the clock.

McNeill needs an official weight. No way he's playing at 320.

"Because I played the zero-technique, I added some weight so I could take on the double and triple teams. Weight might have been a little bit of a weakness for me this past season. It was good weight, don’t get me wrong. There was nothing sloppy on my part.

I’ve already lost all of my weight. I played this season at around 340 pounds. I’m 325 pounds right now. I feel a lot lighter right now. I’m quicker on my feet.

JM: Wow. Your biography on NC State’s webpage had you listed at 320. That’s a big difference.

AM: Yeah, I don’t know why they have me listed at 320 (laughs). I played this past season between 335 and 339. I haven’t weighed 320 pounds since my sophomore season. I think they just never updated the page, to be honest."
