If you pay Maye more then you’re paying for name recognition and not production because it’s only been half that of Simmons and Williams! Williams at 24 vs Simmons at 27 should make Williams quite appealing to many teams!

I’m all in on Williams. Would be exactly what we need

Yeah I was too when they started saying on Saints Radio that Lattimore and Ramstyck were going to be the priority and that they would let him walk. Then I read what they were projecting him to command on the open market and deflated quite a bit. Wish they could get him for 10m!

I honestly think this route we'll likely take to replace Woods

( Side note: I've said keep an eye on the 'other' Vike safety, Harrison Smith, he's on the final year of his deal..could be a cap casualty)

5 safeties the Cowboys could dive into free agency for

I see two main safety targets that will be cheap, but both are coming off of tearing their achilles tendon: Damontae Kazee (the favorite) or Malik Hooker. Kazee can play either slot corner of free safety, has played under both Quinn/Whitt at Atlanta and has crazy ball skills. He has a season of 7 interceptions two years ago and had a whopping 17 in his college career. Hooker is the more talented player, perfect fit for the single high position, but just cannot stay healthy.

It wouldn't surprise me if Xavier Woods also returns on a low level contract as the team needs numbers at the position. The safety class as a whole looks average at best, might be better served addressing the need or needs via fa at the position.

Marcus Williams is going to get paid as he is one of the better young coverage safeties in this league.

The thing is, Whitt and Quinn know Kazee over Woods. Linquist is gone to Michigan as well.

So I do think they may prefer Kazee over Woods. The defensive coaches haven’t coached Woods nor is he familiar with Quinn’s scheme.

With that being said, I still 100% believe Woods is back.

Oh he will. He doesn’t think he’s getting 10 per. He was replying to me hoping we’d snag him for 10-12

Just 24 years old with tremendous ball production, he is the type of fa we see signed to a big contract once fa begins.

I mean the ideal situation would be signing upgrades at defensive tackle and safety in the first week of free agency. But until the elephant in the room, daks contract, gets resolved there won't be much to speculate.

Besides, the Jones company schedules their vacation/retreat the first weeks of free agency so we don't have to worry about them over spending on functional talent. We get to worry about them spending on bottom shelf veteran talent with one foot into retirement.

This is a year where they really need to entertain the prospect of going after 1 or 2 high level players in FA. Preferably Tomlinson and one of the available safeties. When you’re defense is historically bad, it is unacceptable to expect that the draft and bottom bin free agents are going to get the job done. There are a bunch of contracts that you can target in 2022 that will allow you to be more aggressive this year.

Woods is probably coming back.

He won't get any real offers because the rest of the league isn't blind to his awful play.

The cheap kid will compare what they can get Woods for vs the cost of a real safety and resign their 6th round prize.

They would rather pay a safety that can't play 3-5m than 10-15 for one that can.

The over evaluation of their own continues.

Honestly, I know probably won't do it but since this position is critical to Quinn's defense, why not ALL IN and do whatever you have and sign on the top free agents ( Simmons or Maye ). This way you can draft Farley or Surtain and lockdown the secondary for the next 3 years. Hell, get us 315-320lb DT, suddenly our DLine AND secondary is in good shape. In other words, do whatever you have to do capwise to get Simmons or Maye. I'd much rather go this way even if it means no cap money to any other free agent other than keeping our low-level guys that we would normally move on from.

We almost certainly will bring someone in. Even if we draft a starter, we'll still need depth. We've got nothing but Wilson, and he's our SS.

Last year we tried to pay Dix 4mil. More than our usual free agent spend for a S. And we did try to spend real money on Thomas. Maybe the philosophy has flipped a little from the ultra cheap out days at S.

We also signed McCoy and Poe to multiyear contracts. Seemed a change in a free agent philosophy. But given how poorly that turned out, I expect we go back to the old way; sign a guy we won't have to cry about starting as a bridge, but plan on building through the draft. With our boatload of mid round comp picks, that seems like a reasonable plan.

Despite being active for a bunch of games, Reggie Robinson didn't get a single snap on defense, only ST. I doubt he's considered a viable option at FS next year. They'll make other plans.

He’s being projected at around 14 to 15m, reason Saints are letting him walk and why he’s most assuredly out of Jerry’s price range by a lot!

Really like Maye, but he like Simmons, and Williams will be too expensive for DAL. Not impressed with Harris or Earl.

Slim pickings considering how the Cowboys roll in FA, however, on a lower tier Neal is a player I expect to get consideration. Kazzee too.

I think Neal signs w/ Cowboys.
Cowboys also draft a Safety in the 1st-3rd rounds.
I could see Woods coming back, to his credit, he played better in the Cover 3 scheme at FS...but Woods value is in his ability to play the slot also. Woods or Kazzee???

Lastly, I predict Reggie Robinson moves back to CB. Although dudes measurables could equal a Biadasz FS.
