How big of a need is DT 3T?

I keep on seeing many mock drafts here with 3T defensive tackles, but rarely am I seeing what is truly needed, a 1 Tech run stuffer. Team already spent back to back drafts at the position with Hill/Gallimore. I understand some are losing patience with Hill, but he still was a high pick by the team and they already have competition in house with Gallimore at the position. Quinn scheme isn't like Marinelli's, where he plays a 2 gap NT type, not another 3T.

Unless a quality 3T falls in their laps, they need to address NT.

They should let Gallimore/Hill have a full offseason hopefully in an NFL weight room which neither got last year and see how big a difference it makes.

Bring back McCoy if he’s healthy to teach them and sign a vet 1T and draft the 360 LB LSU kid.

I think the best play is fa, sign bridge starters at both positions. Draft a quality 0-1 Tech and even another 3 if one fell in their laps. 3T is kind of like FS this yr, just a few in the entire draft.

Because 1-techs don't matter.

Run defense, in general, doesn't really matter.

I was impressed with Gallimore last year, and I'd let him enter 2021 as the starter. He earned that benefit of the doubt.

Hill is a writeoff IMO... he played better last year, and he showed effort that was lacking in 2019, but he still wasn't good at all. Now he has a torn ACL. For a game that is 100% built on athleticism, that's concerning. He's a borderline 53-man roster player and I wouldn't be upset if we released him this summer.

Hill does possess that elite first step quickness. Quinn was a DL coach before he was a DC, he will try to get that potential out of him. I think the staff/front office is much higher on him then the fan base.

Will he still have that juice after knee surgery though?

Honest question....what impressed you about Gallimore this season?

I think he should be good to go. Him and Gallimore will compete for snaps, where they may bring in a veteran, bridge type so they both aren't forced to see starter reps.

Since there's not a starting caliber 3T on this roster, I'd say yeah, it's a pretty huge need. They need both tackle spots and 1/2 to 3/4 of the secondary, as well as another linebacker or two. It's a mess.

the FO has to treat Hill and Jaylon and LVE like spares

Prepare as if their not there and be hating you get anything out of them

expect them to be gone in 2022 if not cut sooner

Having a big two-gapper upfront also lets you run more coverages with fewer men in the box. It's not like the classic nose tackle is some relic of the past now.
No it doesn't, yes it is.

A two-gap player doesn't matter without the LB support because teams will just seal every time.

I think Gallimore was showing some promise towards the 2nd half of last season. If he can continue to build off that I think he can be 1 starter for us.

"PFF DAL Cowboys
Neville Gallimore since Week 9:
-Run Defense Grade: 64.5 (ranks 4th among rookie DTs)
-Defensive Stops: 8 (ranks t-2nd)
-Run Stop %: 10.0% (ranks 3rd)"

That being said we still need another DT IMO. Call it a 3T or a 1T or just a DT...I don't care just get me someone that can anchor and effect the run and pressure the pocket a bit.

I’m with you @Cowboyny I don’t see the need to draft 3T high in three straight drafts. The fact that we are back in a scheme that plays to the strengths of Hill/Gallimore with the 1-gap upfield focus is a plus as well.

With a bridge vet added a rotation of vet, Hill, and Gallimore is what we’ll go with. Why people expect a front office to draft the same position high three drafts straight is beyond me. They invested in 3T and are going to let those investments grow before they just keep adding picks.

I don’t the see the generational 3T in this draft that would force us to make that pick either. Remember DT is a hard position to get going in year one. There’s a good chance anyone we draft in rounds 1-3 is worse year 1 than Gallimore and Hill will be next year.
