How big of a need is DT 3T?

I think Gallimore was showing some promise towards the 2nd half of last season. If he can continue to build off that I think he can be 1 starter for us.

"PFF DAL Cowboys
Neville Gallimore since Week 9:
-Run Defense Grade: 64.5 (ranks 4th among rookie DTs)
-Defensive Stops: 8 (ranks t-2nd)
-Run Stop %: 10.0% (ranks 3rd)"

That being said we still need another DT IMO. Call it a 3T or a 1T or just a DT...I don't care just get me someone that can anchor and effect the run and pressure the pocket a bit.

“Counting on” a player like Gallimore is the exact mistake we have always made

Draft Barmore or Nixon and let them rotate with him

What I was getting at is that Gallimore showed promise to confirm to develop into a quality starter IMO.

Great Ds have solid depth across the DL so I’m all for adding more ammo to the position so we can add another stater and build depth.

In other words, this kid finished the season strong.........there no reason to think he won't pick up 2021 season where he left off
good post!

Honest question....what impressed you about Gallimore this season?

The run defense. He's always had potential there as a super-strong Bruce Feldman certified Freak Lister, but always struggled with it at Oklahoma and was truly atrocious at the beginning of the season. Marcus Mosher memorably said that he played with negative leverage.

By about the Pittsburgh game though, he worked the kinks out and started stuffing the way his skill set always suggested he could. Cnu posted the PFF stats earlier, suffice to say that he was impressive. A second year player with big-time physical gifts whose game is starting to come together... that's not a guy you should be looking to replace. You give him a shot and see if he continues to emerge.

Yeah, maybe get a 5th or 6th rounder w/ potential to compete w/ him, but Galley has earned his shot.

Trisha doesnt play football. Nothing to talk about

Sure he does. He knows how to sink a knee and hold a double team, hit the combo and engage, slap and swim, club and rip, stack and shed, use his feet on plays that move the play laterally, use his hands to climb from one gap to another, etc. He also hustles down in down out.

I bet you don't even understand what half of that is because you don't really know much about football as its actually played. I've challenged you half a dozen times to describe a couple of different things that way and you cannot.

His problem is recognition and knowing when to use said techniques given any situation. It's why he gets hooked and ridden from backside reach blocks. He looks raw and should have been a 4th round pick because of his undeveloped skills.

At this point that is a sunk cost though. He works and plays hard. He improved in a year when most defenders were regressing.

What is sad is people such as yourself who root for him to fail because he was drafted too early so you can be right in saying so. Fickle and self-serving.

good post!

Exactly...I hope so!

Now give me McNeil / Wilson to put next to him and let’s ride!

:rolleyes:What what what? I really hope this is sarcasm I'm not picking up on. Otherwise, just no.
Not even a little bit. No correlation between 1Ts and successful run defense, no correlation between successful run defense and winning.

It's a passing league. If a DT can't penetrate and get after the quarterback, they have no value.

I'd say it's 6th on the list of needs pre-free agency.
FS, LB, CB, 1T, DE, 3T, OT

Gallimore deserves a shot at the 3T, but he wouldn't keep me from drafting one. I wouldn't pass on taking a good 3T, in the mid rds, if you have no other players who fit needs within the value of the pick.

That is so wrong on so many levels.
Um, no it isn't.

Go ahead and show me proof that a good run defense correlates to success right now. 3 of the 4 teams in the championship games ranked 23rd or worst against the run.

Also, I think the Dontari Poe signing should be enough to show y'all that a DT doesn't necessarily stop the run worth a damn just because he carries a massive amount of weight.

100%

This forum’s oversimplified infatuation with big fatties is delusional. You aren’t automatically a great run stopper because you’re 320-340 lbs. You don’t just automatically take up two blockers based on your sheer mass.

I don't care how fat our 1T is as long as he can anchor and take on dbl teams in the run. Give me a DT that can do that and bull rush the C into the QB consistently and I'll take him. It's just that most of the time guys that can both are, cough, larger gentleman.
