We are all aware the glaring need at safety, all they have is Donovan Wilson, Reggie Robinson and Darian Thompson. Also, Quinn's Cover 3 Defensive Scheme requires a rangy, single high safety. Might be one of the most important positions in his defense. Here is my short list rankings of single high safeties:

1) Trevon Moehrig TCU (some view him as a 1st rd talent)
2) Richie Grant UCF (huge senior week has him competing to become #1 at the position)

Will either one make it to 44 or even out of rd 1? Trade might be required.

Late Day 2

3) Washington TCU (5'8, maybe even smaller)
4) Cisco Syracuse (feast or famine, makes many plays, but gives them up as well)

Might have to overdraft due to the lack of talent at the position

Day 3 Types

5) LeCounte Georgia (coming back from an motorcycle accident)
6) Wiggins Cincy
7) Gillespe Missouri (zero career interceptions)
8) Sterns Texas

We need to bring in a free agent. Grant and Moehrig will be over drafted. I bet they don’t make it past 36.

I think Cisco is way higher than Washington if we're talking about purely a single high safety, probably better than the other two. Where he falls short of them is in the completeness of his game, more than anything.

Washington can be effective if you use him like Tyrann - who is predominantly a slot corner or in the box.

Something to keep in mind is by the draft we would have made a decision whether or not to let Woods walk AND likely signed FA. The level of FA could impact your first two players, Moehring and Grant.

Cisco vs Louisville was some of the worst safety play I've ever seen. The big plays are cool but you cant be a single high guy putting that on film in college let alone the NFL.

Trade down to 18-22 and take Moehrig

then use the 2 rd 2 picks on DT and LB depending on value

I would try like heck to trade Gallup for a 2 because there is no way we are signing him after the year

Considering the fact that he rarely played single high at Cuse, especially in the 3:30 youtube clip you watched of it, this doesn't really matter.

Why would i want a guy missing tackles and taking bad angles at single high? If he does it in a split safety look itll it'll look worse with more space between himself and the ball carrier

My best guess based on what we have seen, Woods gets resigned and they add another cheap contract, player like Kazee. Either move wouldn't affect them from taking a high level safety.

There is evidence last yr, that one should go in the top of rd 2, the other around our pick. McKinney, Delpit, Winfield Jr. Those were your top FS's last year.

I can almost guarantee the team will address the position via FA, before the draft, one way or another. We may not get who we want, but they will have the position "filled" on paper going into the draft. Than they will draft the best player they can land at any given point in the draft. With hopes of strengthening each spot.

Moehrig and Grant will be high targets for every team needing a FS.

We agree, Washington has to be used in more creative ways, not just as a single high. Cisco fits better as the single high. I see both as 3rd rd prospects.

Much rather a combo of Farley/Surtain and Moehrig/Grant. Trade up from 44 to make it happen. Our secondary would be set.

Why would anyone give a 2nd up for Gallup? He is unrestricted after next season and this is a deep WR class.

Our hope is several other teams address the need in a big way in fa. We are not going to be buyers.

im much more interested in upgrading front 7 than CB. Trade down and you get Moehrig and 2 rd 2 picks which you can use for Nixon and Browning

I’ll take Moehrig/Nixon/Browning all day over Surtain/Moehrig

Regarding Gallup you don’t know till you ask. I think we can get a rd 3 comp next year but a 2 or 3 this year is much better value

I truly hope we sign a quality Safety this offseason because I am not drafting any of those safeties before 44. Its an ok safety draft class that will be overdrafted.

It’s just hard to believe something has changed and they value the safety position. Idk, maybe try it and see. It seams like the way to go is build in the trenches, but I know they like to sell jerseys.

I would prefer we sign one the safety free agents and just strike this need right off the list.

But we know Stephen..

I think, chances are, one or both of Moehrig and Grant will be there for our second round pick. It is a pretty crummy defensive draft though, so it's possible they go early round 2.
