Derek Carr trade rumors

Given the salary differences, I suspect Carr plus a 2021 3rd (or 2022 2nd or 2023 1st) would do the trick.

If you just look at their last 50 games or so--so what is relevant--their numbers are very close.
The same applies if you use all 69 of Dak's games vs the last 69 by Carr. (Carr had a bad 1st year)

If you give up a 1 for Carr.. Which I would hate.. Then you have to figure out how to trade Dak and get a 1 + something else back somehow.

I guess you could look at it though like you would be getting Derek Carr and the cap room to sign 1 or 2 really good players by just letting Dak walk.

I just think a team like the 49ers would be perfect for Dak and we could get some compensation there somehow.. Or even the Patriots or Colts.

I think a lot of these teams that view themselves as close would be willing to give up some good compensation for the Standard Dak provides. You know what you're getting with him.. A nice solid game manager type that won't win or lose you the game. He'll provide stability.

@CATCH17 Put your GM cap and owner cap on and think this out. What exactly would you trade for a QB who just had a horrific compound fracture and dislocated ankle 4 months ago and cannot put full weight on his leg right now, and likely will not be able to pass a physical until after the draft? Said QB also wants $35-40M/year and a SB of $50M with over $80M guaranteed in a year where the cap is $180M and the 2022 cap looking just as bad. Scouts are telling you that the QB might not succeed without stacked talent on offensive side.

Now what exactly are you giving up for this QB before the draft? I don’t think you thought this through.

No team is giving you anything for Dak until he can run, cut, and make all the throws and pass an independent full physical.

There is a rumor that the Raiders want to trade for Watson..

That would mean Derek Carr is out there for trade.

IMO, Dak and Carr are about the same. They both play a similar brand of football..

Safe & conservative types.

Carr had 27 TD's and 9 INT's.. Very Dak like... 29 years old as well.

His cap hit next season would be 22 million.. The year after about 20 million.

Also, maybe that would allow us to trade Dak and possibly get a an extra #1 pick.

So we trade for Carr in your scenario, but also sign Dak? Because that would be the only way we could trade him.

If no team is giving anything for Dak.. Then why on earth do we "have to pay him".

"Bish better have my money."

All these teams wanting two first round picks for their mediocre QBs. Philly is said to want to first rounders for Wentz. LOL. Good luck with that.

and then add a 39 to 40 mill deal? How does that not put them back over the cap? You get rid of the 20 mill off the 21 mill they are over but then you turn around and add 39 to 40 mill back on Watson or Dak? how are you still not well over the cap?

Yep, exactly. And there lies the problem for anyone who thinks Dak has trade value. Dak has negative value if he signs for or wants $40M per year.

The OP is saying the Raiders are trying to trade for Watson. He is suggesting if they do, then we try to trade for Carr. Prescott wouldn't be part of that deal. That would have to be a separate trade
Which would mean Dallas would have to sign Dak. There is no way they sign Dak, then turn around and trade him.

Any assets you give for carr aren’t worth the minimal cap savings

I don't know Dak. I mean, if the plan for Dak and his agent is to simply get to FA, then I think it would be worth it because that means that you are either going to get yourself into a seriously compromised financial situation or just be without an experienced QB and be forced to pay a premium for one last minute. It's really hard to know where all the bodies are hidden on this thing but I can see how it might make sense if you actually believe that Dak is hell bent on becoming an FA.

His numbers have been about the same.

Even with Andy Dalton throwing him passes he still manages to get about the same numbers.

He's good for about 80, 1,000, and 7 TD's regardless of who is throwing him the ball.
Really? With Carr he played 6 games and had a whopping 280 yards. Comes to Dallas and puts up ridiculous numbers. But please tell me again how Carr is going to produce the same as Dak. Please go ahead. You need to let this dream die. And wake up to reality. Carr is not Dak. Nor should we trade ANY Draft capital for him.

Also. We shouldnt be trading ANY draft capital. We need to fix the DEFENCE on this team. I dont care if we brought in Mahomes. If our defence doesnt stop allowing 40 points a game he wont be winning either. Sign dak for 4 years. Build the defence thru the draft. At the end of the 4 years you can get rid of Zeke, Jaylon, and Dlaw and Dak if he doesnt perform. And the defensive players we drafted will be up for renewal. Thats when you take a look at things. Not right now.

Relax.. This is about money and getting an equal player.

It's difficult to have this type of conversation on a board that thinks Dak is as good as Stafford.
So if Carr and Dak are equal, why would the Raiders do this?
Unless you really believe Dak is better?

Dak is two year younger. Dak - July 29, 1993 - - Carr - March 28, 1991

I saw this too but there is too many moving parts for the Raiders to get Watson. They said it would have to be a 3 team trade for them to get him.

i'm not down grading the most important position on the team.
if Dak walks and Carr is a f/a....i wouldn't hate that.
at that point...he's better than what we'd have.
but i'm not trading for him then trading away Dak.
only way i move on from Dak is if he moves on from us.
pay Dak....get on to draft'n.

It's difficult to have this type of conversation with someone who constantly whines that Dak's numbers don't lead to enough wins but now wants to peddle that Stafford's (inferior) numbers indicate greatness despite leading to WAAAAY fewer wins.

I don’ have to pay him nor would I pay him. Some fans here think we have to. Maybe loyalty and love for a player obliterates common sense of a GM.

Let Dak explore the market as a FA. If Dak wants to be a Cowboy then he can give Jerry the chance to match or beat. If Dak feels insulted, then he can walk. Move on to plan B or C or D.

No one is breaking the bank for Dak in this health, in this $180M cap, and for his talent level. No one but Jerry maybe.

Especially with the needs we have on defence. We can't afford to waste any of our draft capital.
