After watching the SB and the way that Bowels had his defense playing I just wanted to cry LOL

That and seeing how the Chiefs mirrored us for all the wrong reasons. To me, it showed the importance of keeping Dak and fixing the DEF.

With the Offense we have right now we can compete as far as scoring but if we Dont fix this defense then we will be watching another team in the playoffs again next year!

I dont want us to go back into salary cap heck lol but Dang I would like for us to go after a game changer on defense instead of these bottom tier players.

I see game changers more often on offense than D. Even though you see some great defenders, by themselves they don't change much. Usually you need multiple impact players on D to make a difference. The whole D comes together. Think about it, how good did D. Ware make our defense? Compared to how good Denver was when he teamed up with Miller among other dudes on that D. Look back at the 2013 Seahawks. They had a laundry list of impact players on that defense.

We really havent had a great defense since the salary cap has started. lol I feel that we have done fairly good in the draft but we have sucked big time when it comes to FA. We have a pretty good Offense right now but if we dont get us a defense that can be in the top 15 we are never going to win another SB. I hope that Jerry can realize that and quit ignoring the positional needs on Defense

LOL me too. But it looks like the Cowboys defense will probably be worse next year. A lot are leaving. Not that they were all that good, but who's replacing them?

The Cowboys had a pretty good D in 2018 at some point. Then ever since they collapsed against the Rams in the playoffs it's been a quick descent like the flushing of a toilet bowl. Through the pipes and out into a certain creek without a paddle.

The biggest takeaways that I got from this game was that defence still wins championships and you have to be balanced on offense. The Bucs won the Super Bowl because they played elite defence from basically start to finish, and because the Chiefs didn't run the football. Jason Pierre-Paul, Vita Vea, and Lamonte David were in Mahomes' face pretty much the entire time. They took away Tyreek Hill and basically told the Chiefs to try to beat them without Hill. The end result was 9 points. Meanwhile, the Chiefs couldn't stop the run at all, and Brady was able to rip them apart as a result. Morale of the story: play balanced offense and build this defence. If you want to have a chance, make the defence afraid of both the run and pass. On the other side of the ball, play good defence, and you'll typically win. Jerry Jones needs to build this defence this off-season so we can have a chance to compete next season.

Two MVP QBs, one of them The GOAT.

I think the defense will be better then what we saw last year even with letting some players walk. At least I hope LOL
I would like to see one Good FA move instead of regressed players that we seem to be signing in FA.

For the most part that's true in today's game. But Dallas doesn't have a competent defense. It's not even close.
You are correct of course but what do we aspire to? We don't aspire to have a elite DEF just a competent one

Well that's true. Most of the attention is on offense. Jerry will pay a guy or 2 and then dumpster dive on D. Similar to what someone else said in this thread, ever since the salary cap Jerry focused on offense. The only time defense was the focus was when Parcells was coach. But not when left to Jerry.

You noticed that too, huh? Not only regressed, but borderline retired players.

What makes you think the D will get better? Because I have hope too. The ship is sinking while we're hoping it doesn't. We'll see what they do in the off season. I think Diggs will be solid. Our DEs are solid. Maybe a couple other guys. Then a bunch leaving to free agency. Then the issue of signing Dak. Not going to be a lot of room to improve the D. I think we're in trouble.

I'd love to have an elite defence, but we have to start somewhere. A competent defence would be a start.

"Defense wins championships"

Then proceeds to go on about how we should sign a guy to 40M plus a year and by doing so, allocating 70% of our salary to The offense...

You think you can field a top defense by using obly 30% of the cap on that side? Goodluck with that.

If you really believe defense wins SBs, how about we sign Cam Newton or some other washed up QB on the cheap and use the rest of the money on the top DE and Safety on the market?

You cant have your cake and eat it too.

Well, I like Dak slot, but I agree 40 mil is steep for him. 35-37 is about fair for him imo. I think that can still help, especially with the high draft picks we have.

3 million doesnt really make a difference lol

Also, the draft as many have said, is a crap shoot and guys take time to hit their stride. By the time they're ready, Dak will be asking for another contract.

The Windows for a SB in todays NFL have shrunk to 3 years Max and after that you have to rebuild or go for an all out attempt like the Bucs and Rams are doing.

Just ask teams like the Falcons, Eagles, and the 49ers.

Having said all of that, do you believe Dak can win a superbowl with the defense as is? If not, the whats the point? Move on and build a better all around team.

I think if we had at least an average QB, we could win a SB with Dak. However, I don't think we can with any QB with how atrocious this defence is. What scares me is the thought of returning to 2000-2005 (between Aikman and Romo) where we can't find a QB to save our lives as I said in another thread. We have so many holes on defence that we can't afford to spend a high draft pick on a QB. Unless we plan on tanking next season as well as the one we just had to build the defence (which means more pain for us fans), I don't see another choice other than perhaps franchise tagging or extending Dak. I don't see any Tom Brady's being available. And even if we do tank, there's a very real danger of returning to 2000-2005. Especially with Jerry's idea of a QB. Must I remind you of the near misses?

The reason we couldnt find a QB before Romo was because we didnt even try.

Go back and see for yourself. Guys like brees and Rodgers were drafted in that time period and we could have drafted either.

Part of the problem was Bill Parcells and how he viewed the QB position. He prefered veteran game managers.

As far as the "average defense" goes, have you guys forgotten that for most of Daks career the defense has been average to good?

Just last year the defense held the eagles to under 20 points in a Winner take all scenario and Dak couldnt muster a measley TD.
