Ranking the "short list" for Single High Free Safeties

I thought you were in on Collins at 10?
Trade down to 18-22 and take Moehrig

then use the 2 rd 2 picks on DT and LB depending on value

I would try like heck to trade Gallup for a 2 because there is no way we are signing him after the year

Gallup is solid and I think has a 2nd round value, but I wouldn’t part with him I would cut Cooper

Cut him now = $40 million dead cap. Good luck with that.
Cut after next season = $28 million dead cap. See above.

Earliest you could cut him is after 2022 - only $6 million dead cap.

If the scouts tell me he is all that, I have no problem taking him at 10

then I’d go Nixon in rd 2 and try to trade up to get grant in mid/late rd 2

What I outlined above is an alternative if we’re not totally sold on Collins at 10 as that is pretty high for a LB

Trade down to 18-22 and if Collins is there you take him or Moehrig and go from there

Of course it is very likely we will go OL in rd 1 and throw a monkey wrench into everything

All correct except that scenario is after 2021...in March of 2022. 2021 is already guaranteed. 2022 guarantees if he is not released in March of 2022.

The 6m dead money comes with a cap savings of 16 or 20m depending on if they go pre or post June 1.

At that point, if Gallup is cheaper and this defense is still a disaster (strong likelihood on both)....they may have a decision to make on Cooper.

I realize everyone jumps to this guys defense because his overall numbers are good and too many people have a fantasy football mindset....

But in real football you need to stop people also and the cap dollar allocation is way out of line toward offense.

Not long at all between now and that time, but much will happen to influence this one way or another by then.

No, haven't watched him too much, but everything I've heard/read, he is more of a developmental safety who struggles in run support.
Don't take other's words. Take the time to watch some film. Yes, Caden Sterns struggled early his Fresh and Soph years in run support, but he made big improvements his Junior year in 2020. Remember, he played in a big school conference against some very good teams, so he's definitely more experienced than them smaller school safeties you guys are fawning about.

For years, my draft prep always has leaned higher on trusted insider opinions and what they are hearing from the actual NFL Scouts. I do pick and chose to watch a handful of prospects in detail, but not so much for the lower level players who not many are talking about.

Also in real life it’s not about the cap you have to give cash to the player.

If we sign Rayshawn Jenkins I wouldnt care what else they did. Thats an exaggeration but we need him in Dallas! I'm tired of having soft players mentally and physically on defense.

Molden Washington's CB needs to be the choice for single high safety. Very willing tackler effective. Also a ball hawk. Earl Thomas esk.

richie grant is my dude.
but something tells me he may sneak into rd1.
i like lecounte from georgia...deablo from va tech...paris ford,pitt...stearns from texas and mike brown,miami-oh.

hopefully they address this spot within the first 3 or 4 picks if the board falls right.
but stephens words keep coming back to haunt me..."that poor ol' safety position keeps getting shorted every year".
sad thing is....there is ALOT of truth in his joke.

You think Grant leapfrogs Moehrig? I don't see Grant getting drafted before Moehrig and I honestly don't see Moehrig going in the first. This years safety class seems like solid day 2 talents and I could see a run on safeties happening in the 2nd round. If we don't draft a safety with our 2nd pick, I dont think we are getting a good one.

This is the biggest question outside of signing Dak this off-season, will they address Safety, DT1 with quality, high level options?

We are all aware the glaring need at safety, all they have is Donovan Wilson, Reggie Robinson and Darian Thompson. Also, Quinn's Cover 3 Defensive Scheme requires a rangy, single high safety. Might be one of the most important positions in his defense. Here is my short list rankings of single high safeties:

1) Trevon Moehrig TCU (some view him as a 1st rd talent)
2) Richie Grant UCF (huge senior week has him competing to become #1 at the position)

Will either one make it to 44 or even out of rd 1? Trade might be required.

Late Day 2

3) Washington TCU (5'8, maybe even smaller)
4) Cisco Syracuse (feast or famine, makes many plays, but gives them up as well)

Might have to overdraft due to the lack of talent at the position

Day 3 Types

5) LeCounte Georgia (coming back from an motorcycle accident)
6) Wiggins Cincy
7) Gillespe Missouri (zero career interceptions)
8) Sterns Texas
Not a fan of Holland?

We need to bring in a free agent. Grant and Moehrig will be over drafted. I bet they don’t make it past 36.
I don't think so. Safety isnt a premium position, so I dont see a team in the 1st reaching for these guys. These are both 2nd rounders
