We are a long way from being a title contender.

No need for us to sign 32 year old linebackers.

Let a contender do that.

perhaps. 32 doesn't help him, IMO. I don't think there's a lot of productive 32+ LB's playing. But I'm guessing, haven't dug into it.

You never know. I was much against signing Julius Peppers, when he was let go by the Bears, he was 33 years old. But he went to the Packers and had 37 sacks in the next 4 years, including 10.5 and 11 sack years, and then 11 with Carolina at age 37!

Wright had 132 tackles in 2019, only 2 years ago, so I'd not immediately discount him just due to being 32.

Besides, players take better care of themselves (or can do so) than years ago, I think we need to re-assess the "after 30 you're on the downside of your career" viewpoint, and that includes myself...

A decision is looming not only with Jaylon and his contract, but Lve and his 5th year option which they have to decide by this May to pick up or not. Think the option gets picks up, cause they have no choice, due to the lack of depth at the position.

Getting back to Jaylon, they may to see if Jaylon plays better in a more simplistic scheme under Dan Quinn and make the decision after next season. They could approach him now and ask to take a pay cut, if he refuses could outright release him. I believe if he becomes a June 1st cut, they can gain 7 million in cap space.

KJ Wright is a linebacker that played under Dan Quinn with the Seahawks. He is a three down player who has the ability to play all 3 linebacker positions. His downside is 32 years old, but still playing at a high level. Knows the system, brings leadership and stabilizes the position. Thoughts?
Don't let LVE off the hook, neck injuries and linebackers don't go together. I would not pick up his 5th year.

It's very possible that as sports medicine continues to evolve, older players will represent more of a value in free agency, because teams will be slower to catch up to the science. Just look at the GOAT himself.

Cowboys signed Lee at age 34, so don't be surprised if they sign Wright...

Yeah but we were also viewed as a Super Bowl contender before the year and he was a insurance policy for LVE and Jaylon..

It’s time to draft and hopefully find a replacement for Smith. We need someone who can actually play in space.

With Dak’s contract we’re looking at about 3 years of taking the hit before we can even think about winning a Title.

Im a big fan of Wright. Always productive, team leader, super intelligent on film, played in 991 snaps last season.

Wright recorded 82 tackles (56 solo), two sacks, one interception, and tied Jamal Adams with a team-high 11 tackles for loss in 2020. He’s far from washed
I don’t think he’s washed up either
I also don’t think he’s better at this point than jaylon
And if you cut jaylon and use all the money gained to sign a older player who wasn’t as productive then I actually don’t see the point
If you cut jaylon and sign a better player who’s younger and gonna help you for a few years I could see the value

I would, you've invested 4 years in him already, yes he had injuries and the neck issue probably will mean he has limited years left. But with so many needs on the team IF he returns to form that's one less player you have to replace with either a high-priced free agent or a near total unknown in a rookie.

Wright is probably projected as a replacement for Lee, rather than Jaylon...

Jaylon is not getting cut. Fans turned on him real quick as they do with any player. This board needs a whipping boy player to whine about, always.
Went from Heath to Jaylon. Who will be next or will they keep on whining about Jaylon.

And no to Wright, what sense will that make. Lose a young player that looked overweight last year, and pay an aging vet who will want to get paid also. No, you keep Jaylon and see what he does in the new scheme more suited to his play as well as the rest of the defense. Make him get in shape. And if the DL did their job, he would not have looked as he did at times.

I had to laugh, yet again about Jaylon posts. There is another thread about the salary cap. A post suggested to restructure like 7 players contract, but wanted to cut Jaylon, when his could be restructured as well.
you think Jaylon was out of shape last year? Dude is carved from granite

He looked heavier and slower than his previous 2 years. Even slower than his 1st year playing with the brace. At least to me he did. Unless 75% of the players he chased, was just faster. Which in some cases they were. But he also could have been worn down from all the extra running he had to do, because the DL did not do their jobs. I did notice it more in the 2nd half of games than the 1st half.

I do want to see how he can bounce back though, I think he will.

Here's doubting KJ Wright is gonna accept a 1 year deal like Sean Lee has the last two years.
As a FA, he's gonna either want that last multi-year deal before its a career end.
Or he'll accept a one or two year deal with a true SB contender. (Chiefs ?)

Wright is a much better player even at his age. If the staff has given up on Smith, Wright would be an upgrade. But like everything, it comes down to $$$$.
When you are 32...all it takes is one offseason to fall off. This team isn't a KJ Wright away from having a good defense honestly.

No, but it's for sure Lee has to go, Wright is pretty much a lock to be at least as good as Lee. One less spot to fill with a draft pick I'm thinking would be the rationale...

Mercy. The man just finished a decade in the NFL. To top it off, this is the second time in three years, Wright is a free agent. Too many cons next to that name.
