Trade for Russell Wilson

Dont get the "trade Dak plus ????" trades people keep advocating. Dak is a FA next month - you cant trade a player you dont have the rights to.

If Dak is tagged, we'll end up footing the bill - nobody is taking on Dak + 37m.

Any trade for Wilson or any other QB will be picks.

You should probably read the article next time. No one is suggesting the Cowboys can trade an unsigned player.

Tag Dak, then any trade would be contingent upon Dak and the other team coming to terms on a new contract

He gains more leverage each day. At most, the Cowboys tag him one more time. A third tag would be cost-prohibitive. So either he gets what he wants or he's a free agent in 2022.

If Jerry and Stephen want to keep him then they screwed the pooch by letting it drag this long. I say the chances of them having a viable Plan B are not high. QB hasn't exactly been their area of expertise.

My gut feeling for now, Dak will be playing on the tag this season.

Ugh. No way. Price would be too high. This team needs a re start. There is a high probability Lance, Fields, or Wilson is available at 10. Clearly Lance more than Wilson. Draft that QB, trade Dak for whatever you can get and start Dalton for 1 year. Then spend every other draft pick and FA dollar on the defense.

The only way that doesn't happen is if Jerry caves and Dak gets what he wants. Dak has no reason to compromise.

He can play for $37 million then become a FA. Not a bad worst-case-scenario for him.

Throw in Dak and a couple of 1sts, so that our division leaders WFT dont get him. Something like the Rams did for Stafford so that 49ers dont get him.

Other option is get Brady on our team so that he doesnt distance himself from other teams in super bowl count. Since our ceiling would be NFC CG.
What makes you think the Seahawks want to trade Wilson for Dak at essentially the same salary? It would be stupid for Dallas to give up those picks as well. I would hold on to Wilson and pick up a couple pieces for the OL to make him happy if I was Seattle.

Brady wants to win, so that knocks Dallas out of the box. I guarantee he doesn't have the time or desire to work through a rebuild, reload, retool, whatever it is they are doing at the Star.

Wilson will likely retire in 3-4 years. He is heading into what is likely his last deal. Hes playing on it. He will stay put.

As I said, nobody is taking Dak + 37m. We tag him, we're stuck with the 37m cost. As I said on another thread, if Dak is tagged I can see him starting the season on IR (by his choice) collecting paychecks for nothing, and becoming a FA again in 2022.

Pay tons of draft capital to swap for a QB who's 8 years older and making the kind of money that everyone here INSISTS will cripple the team? Lol no.

Also just wait until Wilson starts demanding more money than the $38m a year he's due to make, because he will very soon.

I just don't understand any logic to this. Is Wilson better? Marginally....with a decline coming fast in his late 30's. Can he fix the terrible defense? No. The Cowboys are not 2020 Tampa Bay, with a loaded roster and just needing a decent QB.

Think before you post these ideas guys.

Wilson's cap hits, if traded, would be 19, 19, and 21 million. But you're right about the money. In two years he'll expect an extension. And like you said, he doesn't play defense. Since Dallas would be giving premium picks, much harder to improve the defense. Then ask yourself why would Russel want to come to Dallas? Plus Seattle will do everything possible to keep him. That's a 39 million dead cap if they trade him before next season.

It's hard to tell at his age. He'll be 34 in two years. Would you put any money on him just saying, I don't want an extension, I'll play out my last year and I'm done? I wouldn't. But anything is possible.

I hate this idea. Get rid of Dak, blow this thing up, and start over... I don't want Wilson, we have too many holes to give up the future for anyone.

A tagged player has the right to veto a trade. Dak is playing for the team he grew up loving. I don't see him agreeing to a trade. Plus he would have to sign the tag offer then pass a physical, in order to be traded.

NOT HAPPENING!!!!!

I agree. But that's a terrible scenario for Dallas. The Cowboys are not winning the SB next season. Not with that defense. What good is paying a quarterback 37 million to play 1 year? Unless Jerry is delusional he has to know this.

I agree. The Cowboys - and Stephen Jones specifically - have handled things poorly.

And failure to keep options open is another issue.

seems to be the franchise player agenda in Big D these days.

Jerry Jones thinks he can take short cuts to getting top QB play. Whether it’s baseball reject reclamation projects (Hutch, Henson), UDFA-once-in-franchise luckbox (Romo), or a 4th round comp pick (Dak), Jones doesn’t want to spend the $ and/or draft capital on a QB. Which is why Dak won’t get extended, and if tagged, won’t be traded for Wilson or anyone else. Sigh.

I think the Saints could definitely interest Dak in a trade.
The chance to go home and pair up with Payton, Thomas, Kamara etc is not a bad option for him.

Using big letters doesn't make your opinion more valid. It probably won't happen but the reasons you are giving are some of the least likely ones. This notion that Dak will settle for less because he loves the Cowboys should've been dispelled last year.

I didn't think this needed explained, especially since it is explained in the link, but any trade of Dak would involve him agreeing to a new contract with the other team.

As for passing a physical, if he can't pass one then all of this is moot. Other than one thread on this board there hasn't been anything to suggest his leg won't heal.
