Should have traded Dak when we had an NFL starting QB on the bench.
Dalton + 30mil > Dak
Dalton at 30 mill. HAHAHAHA.

Have you NOT read what myself and others stated? The Non-Exclusive Tag - that mechanism allows the team to Tag a player while also seeing what other teams think his value is. And, the teams can’t just put some crazy offer out there - they know if they make an offer that matches or EXCEEDS the current teams, they’ll lose draft capital and/or a player to sign that player away. So, Jerry and Stephen could’ve used that to show Dak and T. France if his market value is what Dallas thinks OR what Team Dak thinks.
In that case you don’t match and get 2 firsts. It’s not rocket science. The market and the price aren't the same thing.
The market is $40. If, say, Chicago came in and said "we'll go to $45," that's now the price. The reason you don't do non-exclusive is because it forfeits all of your control. It's the same as not letting a guy get to UFA before signing him.
Just a really bad idea with a quarterback. 0 upside.
Question: what if Dak tells France he will only play for Dallas, and France doesn’t return any other team calls. Dak then signs the tag an hour before the deadline.
What then??

Projection is relative. statistics 101.

I was clearly talking about *last year*, when we paid Dalton 3mil.
The 30mil is what we would have *saved* by playing Dalton and trading Dak.
Dalton even at his best was a 20% decrease in production over Dak. At his age it was more like 30%.
You are not going to get 5000 yards and 30+ TDs using that money. You aren't going to recoup the value in free agency. You are not going draft a QB and get that particularly at 10.
That is the difference between 25 ppg and 19. You can call Prescott elite, mediocre, turd, or whatever but if you want top 5 offensive production we need him.
If we want a better defense, we need more resources for it.
Life is full of tradeoffs.
Two first round picks may not be enough to replace him. Drafting QBs is a gamble that even Vegas can’t figure out which is why letting go of a young franchise QB is a huge risk. Let’s say we start over and bring in a young guy who struggles for two seasons and we have to start over again. We just wasted two seasons and Ya we save $38 mil or something like that but is that money going to make up for an average or worse QBs? Probably not.
Just because you can’t get a great “deal” for him doesn’t mean we shouldn’t keep him.

I think we trade Dak, Jaylon, a second, and 4th for Russell Wilson and a 5th. Then, we take that 5th, pair it with a 6th, and trade for someone’s late 4th rounder. Maybe draft some defensive line help.
I don’t know why people are so polarized over Dak. On CZ it seems that on one hand we have people who say we must cave to Dak’s demands and pay him whatever he wants at any and all cost, OR he is lower than dumpster scum and not worth a package of chicklets.
A reasonable person would agree that with a salary cap, at SOME point, Dak’s cap hit makes it an insurmountable obstacle to assemble a team around him that can win a super bowl. Some of you do not get that.
On the other hand it’s not easy to whip up a franchise QB. By getting rid of Dak, we could be pressing a reset button that makes us start over from the bottom of the mountain and may stay there for some time.
I am sorry, but both camps are not looking at this objectively. You all speak in absolutes and there aren’t many absolutes in the NFL.
I would like to see Dak resigned, but if you cannot assemble a team around him because of his cap hit what do you accomplish? Zero.
Two first round draft picks might be Taco and Bobby Carpenter. Or they might be Aaron Rodgers and Aaron Donald. We just don’t know.
Even though I want Dak signed, I personally see Dak wanting Peyton Manning money and he’s not currently Peyton Manning.
Rodgers has roughly the same amount of SB victories as Joe Flacco or Nick Foles. Let that sink in a bit. If Rodgers can’t get over the hump because of his cap hit, and Peyton Manning only won two because of his cap hit, what makes you think Dak can overcome that?
Tom Brady is not the best QB of all time because he is so clutch, he is looked at as the GOAT because he took half of what he could have made his entire career. The team took advantage of that (and a weak AFC) and won several SBs because of it. Peyton Manning was a better QB than Brady but he won many less SBs than Brady because he was all about the money.
Otay. Either way, Dak > being worse at QB.
Jump into the new era fuzzy, within the next 3-4 years you are going to see that change significantly. You aren't capable of nuance or complexity. Owners aren't monolithic. QB scarcity is real.
Name a QB under 30 to hit veteran free agency in the past decade better than Prescott.
Compare contract values in free agency to those signed outside of it in general.
No team in this league is giving up those picks to acquire Dak and his contract,, lets just put this to rest already. That’s possible. It’s is also possible that Dak would not get as many offers as people think. Keep in mind that teams not only have to pay Dak, they also have to give up 2 first round picks to do it.
I’m not saying you aren’t correct in your assessment. It might be spot on. In fact I lean towards agreeing with your assessment.
But wouldn’t it be something if it drove Dak’s contract price DOWN? I mean...think about it...Dallas should be willing to pay him more than anyone else..because they do NOT have to also give up two first round picks to sign him.
That’s a LOT of assets tied up in one player. Maybe Dak is worthy of such an investment by another team. We gave up a first and signed Amari Cooper, so the compensation is not other worldly in terms of draft pick compensation.
But how many teams would be willing to give up two firsts? Most of the teams who would be willing to do that pick low enough that they don’t need a QB—they already have one.
A team like the Jags would be giving up two high picks. But they can get Sunshine for one pick at a low cost. So why do it?
You would have to watch out for a team like the Commanders. They might do it for multiple reasons. Of course it just takes one.
