Cutting Smith creates a ton of dead money and nobody's trading for him with that contract. Dallas' only hope is to cross their fingers that Dan Quinn's scheme suits Jaylon better.
Lipstick on a pig.

It would also create some dead money to cut Smith - they would be stuck with a cap hit for a player they no longer have.
But would they have to release him March 21 and designate him as June 1 or can they wait."If designated a post-June 1 transaction, the move would clear $7.2 million in space for the cap-strapped Cowboys."
They don't have to. They can create $14 million of room by restructuring Amari Cooper's deal and by re-doing Zeke's and Zack Martin's they can approach $50 million of cap room. That's enough to tag Dak if they need to and add a couple bargain free agents like they always do.

Yes, because they wouldn't be hit with Smith's full pay, but there would still be dead cap money as well, so it's not like completely washing our hands of Smith's contract. If they used some (maybe most?) of the cap saved cap space on a replacement for Smith, there could be a question as to how much, if any, they really gained."If designated a post-June 1 transaction, the move would clear $7.2 million in space for the cap-strapped Cowboys."

Those must be some amazing sunglasses.
He did say he thought Smith had "some big time productive, games", so he did go beyond just saying he showed up. Where the endorsement fell short was in using the word "some" which seems to suggest that McCarty didn't feel Smith played well consistently over the season.“The fact that he lines up every day, the fact that he practices hard every day, plays hard, I thought he gave us some big-time, productive games,” McCarthy said. “I think he’s probably one of the ones that was challenged the most as far as the scheme change. I just love his approach and the way he’s gone about it.” — McCarthy regarding Jaylon
McCarthy is either being coy or he’s just sincerely stupid, or maybe it’s both.
This is like a teacher defending the class dunce “he shows up every day, has all his school supplies, and takes all the tests! His attendance was exemplary.”
Not exactly a ringing endorsement.
I think they believe with better interior defensive line play it will mask the flaws of our linebackers. It’s ok if you disagree but point taken. I just don’t understand how the coaches watching Jaylon get thrown out of the play with one arm or when he inexplicably chases the wrong ball carrier think he is salvageable.
#54 is good at marketing and terrible at LB just like Jerry is a Hall of Fame bamboozler and a terrible GM. The cowboys are a lost cause and it's way past time for most fans to cut bait.Jaylon doesn't have a market value. He's damaged goods trying to hide it behind lots of enthusiasm and celebration on the field. He's taken the whole "look at me" thing to a new level. He's a smart dude. He knows most fans are only remembering his celebrations and figure that if he's celebrating then he must be playing well..
I'm not saying that at all. But woods clearly isn't a leader or cornerstone of this team. He is a bottom of the roster guy on most teams and he is precisely that kind of guy that Jimmy would cut.You telling me if Woods came out and made that comment about effort that he wouldnt have had access to the facility the next day? lol
How do you chase the wrong ball carrier???It’s ok if you disagree but point taken. I just don’t understand how the coaches watching Jaylon get thrown out of the play with one arm or when he inexplicably chases the wrong ball carrier think he is salvageable.

just giving you some crap. There is only one ball carrier, so it is impossible to chase the wrong one.lol. Ask Jaylon! In all seriousness, there was at least two occasions in which Jaylon would be fooled by a fake handoff and pursue the wrong player.

It's like the parents who swears their child is the best athlete (despite their child's deficiencies) so they blame on the coaches for using them in the wrong manner when they don't perform well. So if their child does not excel, they shop their child to a new coach only to get the same or worse results. The main reason Mike Nolan was fired was not the historically bad DEF, but the fact Jaylon appeared to regress in Jerry's eyes.
