they were far better then the ones before them trying to get to Romo. the dak deal being seamless was luck maybe it happens again or maybe we go through a few seasons looking for our next Franchise guy,,.

Wasn’t Quincy carter a first rounder? As well as Ryan leaf?

Carter was a second rounder who really wasn't even a fifth rounder but once again Jerry wanted him.....Ryan Leaf was the second overall selection in the first round but he was pretty much on his last leg in the NFL when Jerry signed him..

I never was on the Quinthy train. His issue was his ability to read the defense quickly and accuracy. Off the field with the drugs was a big one too.

Leaf still had his wrist thing going on, I believe he had wrist surgery. Quincy I think could have turned out ok, but he did not have the mind for it unfortunately.

Good gosh. Bruce Coslett was infatuated with Hutchison. I could not wait until both got run out of town.

Bledsoe was good but would fold like a table when facing any semblance of pressure.

The college teams back then were not playing NFL style football. So it took time to coach a QB into playing NFL football.

Most of the QB's that fail in today's game fail because they went to bad teams that had more problems then one man could fix. Which is why Bill Parcells team building mechanics still work today. Build a defense first, find a QB second. There are only a hand full of teams in today's NFL that emphasize defense first.

So you say all of those QB's were bad? True, but how was Dallas' defense back then?

Defense wins Championships! A franchise QB without a decent defense, will look average.

Quincy was basically Jerry overreacting to McNabb's success in Philly and wanting his own dynamic QB.

Cowboys reached for Carter in the 2nd round, but he was projected by some draft evaluators as a 3rd round pick at best. Leaf was the No. 2 overall pick -- I remember the debates about who was the best QB coming out of that draft - he or Peyton Manning.

No doubt finding a good QB for a franchise is very difficult. So is building a team when 40% of your CAP is allocated to 4 players.

Carter was a 2nd, and was universally considered overdrafted by us.

Leaf had already failed miserably. He was a cheap FA who had already flopped.
