If Dak hits open market this year, does anyone think he would get 40m+ per year?

Is Garrapolo a bargain right now? I think they are trying to get rid of him.

Garrapolo, Wentz and Goff are poster boys against signing QB to deals that are too much of a percentage of the teams cap.
is it the cap or did their teams just realize they are not good QB's and can't lead their team to a SB....so let's just cut bait while we can?

The fact remains...that Garappolo's contract set the market a few years ago. Now, it's not considered much for a good QB. Whether or not Garappolo is any good right now is irrelevant...it's the contract that we are looking at.

Those whining about Dak getting 40 million need to understand that in two years, it won't be considered huge for a QB contract.

Good question. What teams have the cap space that need a QB? I’m not counting Jacksonville or the Jets since they are going with the draft. What team would view Dak as a 40 plus million QB? Patriots have the cap space but no way do they spend that on Dak. It would have to be a mismanaged team that has the cap space, needs a QB and isn’t top 5 in the draft. Hmmmm that sounds like Dallas.

He's not hitting the open market this year but yes there are several teams that would pay the piper for his services.

@Cincycowboy No chance any team offers him anything near $40M if he can’t pass a physical before FA begins and the draft.

Even healthy I doubt any team would go over $30M.

Mediocre QB, damaged goods, ridiculous salary demand. Who’s paying top buck for that?

Well just how is the $40 mil figure arrived at? A 4 year deal for $160 mil? With all years the same? Or $35-40-40-45? That's "$40 mil per year" as well, but not bad for this year.

And don't forget, the cap normally goes up every year, sure even $35 mil this year is bad for the Cowboys, but if the cap is like $225 mil in two years, then even $40 isn't as big a problem.

Just have to be more precise what you mean by "worth $40 mil a year"...

Value is not defined by who is at the top making that much, it’s defined by supply vs demand. There aren’t close to 32 men on earth as good at QB as dak, meaning there’s many teams who need him.

Free agency for pro bowl QBs in their prime should never ever happen. the last time was when Kirk Cousins of all people became the highest paid player in the history of organized football, but you don’t think Dak will even make 40? He will get a lot. Like a lot a lot

Definitely...and not at all that I think he should. Just that there are too many front offices in need of a QB, somebody thinks he is the guy for their system and will pay him what he wants to get him. The way our team is built our QB needs to overcome many team weaknesses. If Dak is playing a role similar to Jimmy G last year with those same strengths on both sides of the ball he'd be in the NFCC every year ... but again, I wouldn't pay him 40M cause I don't think he's that good, he aint terrible, but he aint great.

if he was allowed to hit the FA market, I would not be shocked if Dak went to NYG with Garrett and gave them a short-term deal worth a lot less than what he's asking for in Dallas.... just to stick it to the Cowboys.

or maybe that's just me. I'd be petty like that :)

I dont live in Texas and there is no NFL team in my city. I know fans of nearly every team. People see Dak starting in Dallas as a symptom of dysfunction - most regard him as not good enough. Would rate him alongside the likes of Mariota, Doug Freeman, Bortles etc. Same people thought Dallas hung onto Romo too long - "banged up and overpaid" - so they're not Romo fans. None see any prospect of him joining their team if a FA. All think JJ is so stupid he'll sign Dak and Cowboys will be uncompetitive for 5 more years.
