What does it say that we need two #1 picks at WR?

What Franchise QB’s making top 5 money are afforded two #1 receivers. Keep Gallup.

The 8 or 9 million will be much needed . Unless we have another Rookie contract QB.

In no universe is Gallup signing for 13M. The more realistic question is Gallup at 17M or Cooper at 21M and my answer is cooper easily. That 4M isn’t worth losing him and going with Gallup. Also coop is only 9 months older than Gallup. So if Coop is old so is Gallup lol
Whats crazy is that not only does he think that's what Gallup going to get, but people keep going along with the premise

Its a luxury to be a QB on this team with these weapons,, just ask the GOAT.

I wouldn't say isn't close, but definitely not at the same level. He still has room for growth.
Cooper has been the team's #1 passing option since he arrived. He sees all the attention to allow a player like Gallup to see single matchups on an consistent basis.

Agreed. It’s funny how many are quick to get rid of cooper at this age and how he’s played. Look how our offense was when we had tavon Austin as our number 1
Whenever Dak needs a big conversion, Cooper is his go to guy. He just had a 1k season with multiple QB's.

Entering his prime? Thats going over board. Gallups numbers havent been that far off from Cooper. For 8 million I take Gallup and the youth. Getting 1000-1200 yards and 8-10 TD's shouldnt be a problem for Gallup with Cooper gone.

I like Cooper better, but not at 21.
Offense would really suffer without Cooper. How do you think Gallup/Lamb will do when they have to see double coverage now that Cooper is gone?

Depends on a lot of factors. If we think we're a contender in the next couple of years then it's Cooper... If we're rebuilding, Gallup.

It's a legit question when you throw in those salaries.
But, fwiw, Gallup is only 9 months younger than Cooper---they are essentially the same age.

Interesting, never would have guessed that.

I think you’re way over valuing Gallup. He’s pretty good but this year is a very WR heavy draft and next year is looking good too. There will be high WR prospects available deep in this draft and teams will get them on a cheap rookie contract.

There may be a couple teams that have extra cap space and feel like they need to use draft picks for other positions but I don’t see them giving up a 2nd or a 3rd and 5th.

Agreed that a 2nd is the way high end.

If Gallup wants that kind of money, then its an easy decision.

Quick reference to show what the WR market looks like.

https://overthecap.com/position/wide-receiver/

I believe he will want and will get more than 13 mill a year. He’s good, but he’s number 3 on this team and has benefited from a lot of one on one coverage this season.

A true #1 for 21M or a true #2 for 13M, since Cooper is already on the books and in his prime, the best thing about spending a 1st on a WR was that made the #2 expendable.

They will have a 1 and 1A with Lamb like Cooper had when Crabtree was healthy in OAK. Those two were the handful of the NFL but staying healthy seemed to be a problem and Cooper would drift at times. It was like he wasn't mentally there. I think Amari Cooper is one of the more complicated thinkers on the team, hard to figure out what he's about. But he is much better as a Cowboy than he was as a Raider. Something was wrong with that marriage.

I'm good with Cooper ,Lamb and Smith. Use Gallop to get a defensive piece. Got to be one team that has a good 1Tech they can part with.

Gallop is at least a very good #2 WR. Gallop is proven I don't want a draft pick to guess at.

At $13MM I’ll keep gallop 8 days a week. I’m skeptical he signs for that cheap though. For reference Emmanuel sanders signed for 12MM a year last offseason. I’d have to believe gallop gets more interest on the fa market. Especially if league revenue rebounds and we see the cap going back up for 2022. $15-$18MM seems to be reasonable to me for gallop.

plus you have to factor in the cap hit for moving cooper. I’d have to look it up but that’s probably a $6-$8MM hit and offsets the early cap advantage of keeping gallop over cooper.

Cooper is 26 entering his prime years and has put up great numbers since acquired. Gallup isn’t close to the caliber player Cooper is

This. ^^^

Gallup is a fine player but he’s Alvin Harper. Makes the amazing catch but struggles with the routine catches.

Opposing defenses wish we’d give up Cooper and keep Gallup. They’d probably injure themselves laughing, so I guess it could be a strategy that works.

Cooper is unguardable in man coverage, particularly on turf and will consistently draw safety help.

Gallup pretty much has been running the most amounts of go routes of any Wr in the league.

“Gallup leads the NFL in total go routes run with 71, and ranks third in the league in yards gained on deep receptions with 190 (on just nine total deep targets). Each of those 190 yards have been gained on go routes, with Gallup catching five of nine targets on such routes. Gallup has found the end zone on a deep target once this season, all while existing in a receiving corps that also includes Amari Cooper and rookie CeeDee Lamb, proving his ability to carve out a niche for himself among stellar teammates.”

According to Pro Football Focus, on passes over 20 yards Gallup is tied for 11th in targets (8) and tied for 5th in receptions (5) with zero drops.

Not that it changes much, but I think you're off by exactly one year.
