1. John Elway, Stanford
Draft class: 1983

Pick: No. 1 overall, Denver Broncos

What I wrote at the time: "Perhaps the best evaluation of his talents was given by Cardinals coach Paul Wiggin, who said: 'He's got the confidence and field instincts of John Brodie, the special human qualities of Archie Manning, and the physical attributes of Terry Bradshaw.' In my final evaluation, Elway received the highest grades one can achieve in all categories. He has no discernible weaknesses and is the prototype QB. Without question Elway is a can't-miss All-Pro NFL QB who has the ability to make a place for himself in the Pro Football Hall of Fame."

Career notes: Elway started 231 games for the Broncos and won two Super Bowls to close out his 16-year NFL career. His 300 career touchdown passes rank 12th all time. He entered the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2004.

4. Trevor Lawrence, QB, Clemson
Draft class: 2021

Looks like he's hitting at about 80%.
8 out 10 and
12 out of 15

but these are his very top ones, so it shows how tough it is

What he wrote about the Goat was a classic. If memory serves me correct and I am paraphrasing: he doesn’t have the NFL body. Will get killed out there. Doesn’t throw a tight ball and has an average arm. Split time his Sr year with a freshman. Looks like he should be an insurance salesman rather than a football player.

Who are you referring to?

To be fair, every NFL team pretty much thought the same thing which is why he wasn't a 1st or 2nd round pick.

technically he wasn't wrong. LOL
but it should serve as a constant reminder that playing any position but particularly QB is about way more than physical attributes. pick players over athletes.

If you put the smartest football talent evaluator there has ever been in front of a camera for 30 years and got to read all of their notes on players then people would call them an idiot too..

There isn't some all knowing brain that doesn't miss on picks all of the time. This is a tough job.

Then why do we get all the outrage and reach talk before a guy even plays a snap?

I agree with you. It just goes to show that it is a very tough job to do and you can't measure a person's heart.

He wasn’t the only one who missed on him

I'm the best talent evaluator in the world. But I can't control the type of players these QB will be forced to play with.

Real Joke.
