Yeah losing one's mom by age 21 then losing a brother by age 27... that seems like a pretty steep emotional hill for a young man to climb. I cannot imagine what I would have done had my mom passed when I was 21 years old. She died when I was 57 and I still cried like a baby at the funeral.
Recovering from that deep of a trauma at 21 and then revisiting the same horrible trauma at 27 is pretty remarkable. Screw football for a second. Dealing with that much loss in life and especially the way the loss occurred would derail most people and have them spiral into deep dark depression. His life journey has matured him and made him mentally tough.

Regardless of what you think of him as a football player, you got to respect him as a man and a survivor.

Go away with the Aikman broken record last I checked there are 3 SB wins, NFL was a lot different them you don’t understand that. If you take Dak over Troy you have lost your mind if you ever had one.
Thank you. These Dakheads never watched the 90’s Cowboys. Dak can’t even throw accurate crossing patterns. Empty junk stats. Just watch this season.

Yes but what does that have to do with paying him?

Show us Aikman's stats and team wins after 1995 without a stacked defense. And his last 4 years (1997-2001), he never completed above 60% during a season.
So let’s ignore his SB’s.

So I was going to start a new Dak thread tonight but I didn't want to be one of the guys that started a Dak thread to make one post. So I'll just piggy back on this one. And also I am too lazy to do a search for the hype video thread. But do you guys remember way back in Feb, you know last month, Dallas did a hype video that looked like an eight grade AV project for extra credit? Well the 8th grader left Dak out of the video and that was "proof" he wasn't in the long term plans of Dallas.

If I was Jerry Jones I would do something. Well I would do a lot of things like hire a competent Gm and a coach to maker the most of my 160 million dollar investment. But I would make another hype video which consists of just Dak signing the contract and then looking at the camera and smiling. Then a close up to Jerry Jones and he says, "Ok, everyone shut up now!". hahaha

That's what I would do.

You have serious issues with reality. I guess you could care less he was the #1 rated free agent this year. You know better.

Yup, same criteria then for Aikman, he was a replaceable dime a dozen QB like Romo, Dak. Aikman had zero flaws, proved it after 1995 without a stacked defense (as he had during the SB run). Aikman won those SB's because unlike Dak, he played OL, RB, WR, TE, DL, LB, CB, S, special teams. He proved he didn't need Emmitt. The offense was all him. But Dak is a dime a dozen QB.
If you think Romo and Dak are better than Aikman then we are on different planets. Pure stats are not the story.
Just use the same logic for Montana, Manning, Rogers Of course you need talent around you. But Troy also played his best in the big moments. Do you remember the 92 title game? The Harper plays. The post to Harper for 90 yards..
Anyways I do t think you understand the game.

After all that Dak's been through over the 5 years with the Cowboys, it's so good to see him finally get paid. Not only the dollars, but the respect.

He came as an unheralded 4th round pick out of Miss. St. At Mississippi St. after red shirting as a true freshman in 2011, he played in 12 games in 2012 in mop up duty.

In 2013 he took over when the starter went down and played in 11 games completing 156 of 267 passes for 1,940 yards with 10 touchdowns and seven interceptions. He also ran for 829 yards on 134 carries with 13 touchdowns. He was the MVP of the 2013 Liberty Bowl with a 44-7 win over Rice.

In his first full season as the starter he led the team to a 10-2 regular season record and it's first #1 ranking in Bulldog Miss. St. history. He was named to the 2013 SEC Fall Academic Honor Roll. He was Manning Award Player of the week 5 times, the SEC Offensive Player of the Week 3 times. 2014 Honorable Mention All-American. 2014 First Team All SEC by the AP.

He won the Conerly Trophy, was a finalist for the Maxwell Award, the Davey O'Brien Award, the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm award, and the Manning Award.

He also finished eighth in the 2014 Heisman Trophy voting and received two first place votes. I could go on and on but you get the point. He was awesome.

To sum up his college career, Dak finished third in SEC history in total yards, and fourth in total touchdowns.

He holds 38 school records and was 2016 Senior Bowl Most Outstanding Player.

Final College stats - 734/1169 for 62% Cmp 9,376 Yds with 70 TD's and only 22 int's and a 146 Rtg. 536 rushing attempts for 2,521 yards and 41 TD's. He also caught 4 passes for 88 yrds and 3 TD's.

So after all of that he gets drafted by the Cowboys in the 4th rd after they failed to draft a couple QB's ahead of him. Seven QB's in total were drafted ahead of him.

He was 4th on the depth chart his rookie year but easily outplayed Showers and ended up the starter on day one after injuries to both Kellen Moore and Romo. The rest is history as he led the team to a 13-3 record and Rookie of the Year honors.

In his Cowboy career so far as a starter he's led the team to a 42-27 record. A team with questionable coaching throughout. A team with below average defense and special teams. A team with Jason Garrett as HC, Rod Marinelli as DC, Mike Nolan as DC, Richards as a defensive secondary coach.

His mother died of cancer in 2013 and he lost his brother last year to suicide.

He's been through so much all the while being the kind of man off the field that any parent would love their daughter to marry.

We've all seen his leadership on the field. He dives head first for TD's and first downs. He never gives up and goes down fighting till the end. His teammates say he's one of the best leaders they've ever played with and would break down walls to help him and the team win.

He played his first 4 years on his rookie contract. During that time and even including last year with the tag contract he rated the 28th QB in salary over that time.

Speaking of the tag last year, he didn't have to sign it and could've held out up until training camp without punishment. But not Dak. He wasn't going to let his teammates down. He knew that by participating in all the offseason program that he would be able to prove himself once the season started and earn a long term contract. He's been betting on himself from day 1. Before the ankle injury he was on pace to break Peyton Manning's single season passing yards.

A true testament to the player and man he was is when he suffered that hard to watch injury. The way his teammates rallied around him during that game and afterwards. And not just Cowboy players, but players through the league as they know what kind of a player and man he was.

Yet, after all of this, all the accolades, the 60% winning %, the 15 come from behind wins, the sacrifices he made not only on the field but off there is a very large group of CZ members who crap on him daily. They don't like being called haters, but the ones that crap on him every day, every thread and every post are indeed Haters. They disgust me and should be very ashamed of themselves.

Congrats to you Dak Prescott for not only getting what you deserve but also giving the TEAM a very friendly contract with a year 1 cap hit of only $22.5 mil. $33.2 mill 2nd year and $44.2 mil the 3rd year when the salary cap will have ballooned because of the TV contracts and the legalization of NFL betting.
Sir @Rockport! This is exactly why Jerry Jones forced Stephen to close the deal. Jerry Jones is savvy enough and has plenty emotional investment in players from all backgrounds.

Jerry Jones recognized the fall-out if Stephen Jones played hardball with Dak. Most NFL Personnel & fans like Dak because of the Man he’s become. The mental health stuff was huge!

Wow, you're really taking this pretty hard aren't you. I get it, paying Dak wasn't my first choice either, I wanted to tag and trade and get the picks and blow up the whole team and start over. I don't feel having a high priced QB will win super bowls. But it didn't work out that way so I'm getting behind my QB for the next 4 years and going to support my favorite team. Contract is over, it's signed, move on, get over it. I don't think Dak is going to look you up and see you're not happy with the contract and give it back. So you're unhappiness is only hurting you now.

But to answer your question, his recovery from the losses in his life has nothing to do with him being paid. This thread is about his journey and I was posting about and aspect of his journey.

What does this have to do with anything? I am sure Goff and Cousins were highly rated Free agents when they were signesZ

Leadership is the most important quality for an NFL QB. Wentz has more physical talent than Dak, but his leadership skills suck no matter what @Risen Star try's to tell you. Taking age into consideration, Dak is no doubt a top 5 QB in the NFL.

No I don’t think Dak moves the needle towards a title. Money doesn’t matter as the salary has to go somewhere. We are stuck in Groundhog Day with this team and there are only a few ways to break out.
Get rid of Jerry- We all know this will never happen.
Real HC- Again same story
Get lucky in draft and draft a Mahomes, Watson type.. a real possibility.

I think if we got lucky in the draft and got a hold of an Aaron Donald or a Suh or any dominant defensive player at any position. That's a real possibility. QB hasn't held us back as much as poor GM, poor drafts and bad contracts. I agree with you the only real hope we have of a quick turnaround is hitting on some draft picks and getting some dominant players on the cheap. I doubt we draft a Mahomes or Watson now that Dak is signed unless we pull a Brady and grab someone in the 6th or 7th round that turns out to be an all pro.

But even with an all pro at QB we still aren't winning anything until we get a good draft. Draft a dominate player on defense and then some average starters to good backups and this defense goes from 32 to 20ish in ranking and we'll have a better season next year.

Exactly. The Era of physical traits is over. Wentz, Goff and Haskins burst the bubble.

Leadership is everything.

Andy Dalton should have ”Daked” Dak if he really wanted the QB1. Dalton was an average leader with diminishing skill set.

These QBs have to lead a group of men ( dirty secret 55% of NFL players only play for $$$ IMO) to play at a high level.

Leaders know their worth. Prescott wanted No trade Clause and Franchise Tag removed.

Jerry Jones agreed

Imo Troy played his best in the big moments only when Emmitt was the focal point of the offense. I followed his entire career. Have tons of games from the Boy's prime years 1991-1995 and all the playoff games on vhs. I'm a big Aikman fan, but know he had flaws, just as any other QB.

Troy Aikman career 141 int's to 165 td's.
Career completion % - 61.5%.

Dak seems to be a genuine good person and it's not our money.
As long as we can afford to put a decent team around him I am good with the contract
