Best available at 10?

Zach could play tackle and be good. Slater is basically a more athletic Martin. Make the offensive line great again. Maybe Williams can play center. My dream offensive line. Tyron and Slater/Sewell on the left side, Martin and Collins on the right. Best line in the league.
Maybe, maybe not.
Taking Slater at 10 to play OLT would be a reach.

I don’t understand how drafting the consensus 2nd best offensive linemen in the draft a reach. The guy has the best tape of any player in the draft because he whipped Chase Young. Slater would make our line the best in the league again but because you don’t like him he is a reach. Cowboys Zone at its finest.:facepalm:

It's not consensus.

Has nothing to do w/ whether I like him or not. That is a major reach by you to state that, and it makes no sense. I'm concerned w/ his measureables.

I think you need to reeavalute your posting. You showed Cowboys Zone how to fail mightily on this one. Basically, you disagree w/ someone, so you turned to personal insults. Very weak, dude.

I am sorry if I insulted you. Let’s just agree to disagree. To back up your fear of us drafting Slater, I do think the Cowboys believe we have enough on the offensive line that they would only draft Slater if they think he is a top 5 pick. I just think he makes our line the best in the league. For us to win the offense needs to be a well oiled machine.

Because there are much better offensive players that will be on the board.

Whom? Sewell won’t. Pitts won’t. Neither Darrishaw or Slater are rated higher than Parsons by any board I’ve seen and neither are top 10 picks. You taking another wide out?

Both Pitts and Sewell are rated higher than Parsons. The reality is Parsons will probably get picked in the 12-15 range.
Parsons isn't even in the top 10 BPAs
Am I taking another wide out? I will over Parsons .
Pitts,Slater and Sewell are going top 10.

Dallas had the best Oline in the league not to long ago. Where did it get us? I’m not saying that it’s not important having a good line. It’s just overkill spending high draft pics year after year. While the defense is Trash...

Slater 1 Farley 2 Surtain 3 Parsons 4. I would not complain with the pick. The team would improve with any of these guys.

Got a trade back scenario for you. The Patriots just signed Cam for another year. If Lance is there at 10 the Patriots would be the perfect trade partner.

we would get bamboozled. Just take Slater. We cant do 1st round cbs or lbs.

dak and zeke would beg to differ. O line and d line are mandatory.

Take the defensive player that is more of a can’t miss player (though there is no such thing) and that is Surtain. Great player and safe pick. Either that or trade down if possible.

He scored a 4 on the Wonderlic?

He said he "blew off" the test, I've seen the test, would imagine it's pretty hard to score that low if you halfway tried to do it properly.
Besides, players take the test for the draft, as noted he was the one or two ranked cornerbacks before then, when the "experts" didn't have the Wonderlic score to use in their evaluation. His play in college, size, etc. was how he was ranked...

I would take Waddle, no questions asked.

1. Trade down
2. Trade down
3. Trade down

4. anything else

If you trade down, you still need to have a drafting strategy for whatever picks you have after trading down. What is that strategy? Is it to get as many quality defensive players as you can with those extra picks?

trade down to 16-22. No further

18: Moehrig or Barmore or Collins
2a: DT (Nixon) or FS (Grant) (whichever we didn’t pick in Rd1)
2b: DT/LB/CB depending on value and what we didn’t pick
3a: as above
3b: as above

I think one of the CB's will be gone so one of those 9 should fall to 10 making a trade down easier.

The other part of this is how many drafts go according to Hoyle? Very few. I didn't see one mock last year that had Lamb falling that far.

The biggest myth of the draft is BPA, no team can really do that unless they're sitting flush. Some teams need QB's, WR's or CB's and they'll go up for them in a draft like this one.

The Cowboys could have gotten by just fine with their later rounds DB's Awuzie, Lewis and Woods if they'd built a better front 7. They do not need a CB at 10. Or a LB at 10.

I am not even sure they have to go D at 10, an OL might be the ticket and they've got an exceptional record with 1st round OL.

The thing about this draft is fixing that front 7 to first, stop the run and the defend the pass but they must fix that problem in this draft and FA or it doesn't matter who they take at 10.

We've all heard the old saying - if it ain't broke don't fix it.

Not always true, of course. But taking that saying as applicable to the Cowboys, the offense (with Dak) seems to be more than adequate (I'm assuming Smith and Collins come back and play at least pretty well, both don't have to be All Pro) to "do the job".

You fix the worst aspect of the team first, and since the game is most basically consisting of offense, defense and special teams, obviously the defense should be the prime target of your draft. And it doesn't really matter if you fix, or try to fix, the run defense or the pass defense, or cornerback/safety/defensive line/linebacker first, all need help.

So no need to stress over whether Surtain is there, or Farley, or whoever, at 10 surely you can get a top rated player on defense....
