Did I mention the Cowboys allocated $110 million of their CAP to offense and about $64 million to defense and $25 million of the defensive CAP space is 1 player?

We had a choice between Awuzie and Lewis and who did they sign? Lewis. Why? Because he got $5.5 million and Awuzie got $7.1 million. You get what you pay for.

At least we don't have to have high expectations for Lewis since he isn't getting paid much.

Rumor is we didn’t have a choice. Awuzie wanted out and to have a fresh start. That’s coming from people with inside knowledge of the situation

The lopsided investment in the O is by design. Jerry loves his points. It's been this way for years now.

And note, people are saying we should use the 10th pick to take Slater or Pitts. Their model seems to be spend, spend, spend on O and then hopefully the DC can squeeze a competent defense out of a rag tag bunch.

I've seen enuff of Jourdan Lewis - even before Nolan and Al Harris (who is still assisting ib coaching this unit) came onto to the scene. ..he's a limited slot nickel CB who you do not want
starting,..and you don't want him outside in the flanks. And he's not a stellar slot CB at that. The better slot WRs are gonna take him to school.

Its something about shifty, double move receivers that he struggles against, he's hand-grabby and will accumulate penalties, he doesn't play bigger and physical than his size suggest,
and he'll struggle vs speed WRs the further he has to run downfield.

He's a guy you have to scheme for/around. .. underneath man/zone coverages - ironically we're already doing that with Anthony Brown, another 3 year, 15+ million guy they just recently
re-signed.
Only two things I can say with Lewis is he's a good knack for blitzing, and he has a good sense for tracking down INTs than even Chido or Brown. Otherwise he's an average slot guy.
I had to think Quinn or Hewitt Jr. had to pump and hype Lewis up to the front office - just as someone did with Brown last year.

..what da hell are we doing ?? !!

- we're not upgrading, we're going with the same ole,..same ole. And even Stephen is bending against his very own philosophy.. re-signing average guys to bigger contracts.

That’s starting money. Might be your starting FS in 2021. Before you say he’s a CB, they were talking about moving him to safety at end of last season.
Honey Badger redux? Eh maybe why not, it's not about the tackling as much as it used to be but you do still need it. Remember poor Byron up there, talented as all heck but would get steamrolled by TEs/RBs.

Lewis is currently our usual "veteran bridge starter". If we draft a CB high, and he pans out in camp, either Lewis or Brown are pushed down the depth chart.

We gave that Carroll CB like 4mil and I don't think he even made the season roster. 5mil isn't that bad. Prices have risen.

did we give Carroll any guarantee roster money ?

we gave lewis 8 million guarantee. that's a cap count now, and usually when you're dishing out that kind of guarantee, it's spells that the organization is gonna
demand coaches (that had to vouch for him to re-sign him) to scheme, find ways to keep his average joe play on the field.
plus Carroll who had starting vet experience, was asked to start immediately outside, because we had rookies Awuzie, Lewis on the scene.

Who are we starting outside now with two 15 million dollar CBs that we mysteriously think are significant players to this every suspect defense ?

Good point.
and that's why i've ruled Lewis out as a possible starting FS.
He hasn't shown me that he's near the open field or support tackler that Tyranny Mathieu is despite his size.

He wasn’t liked much for a few years with Richard there.

and Lewis was a 4th CB or 5th CB here with Diggs, Brown, Awuzie and even Worley up front, he was a total backseat with the DB coach (Al Harris) that oddly
is still in the mix with the current DB coaches now. So it wasn't just
I had to think it was new defensive coaches Quinn or Hewitt Jr. that went to bat to not only keep Lewis but reward him to stay on for several years more.

And just like Brown last year, Stephen has actually went back on his own philosophy of giving up money to average joe players. And now he's done that to two different players
in back to back years.

Awuzie is gone. Byron Scott was gone the year before. We can't just scrap every CB all at once and start from scratch.

...instead of relying on one year band aid rental contracts until our personnel guys draft the prospects to contest for roster spots, we re-sign average players for several years to come ?
and didn't we " start from scratch " before when we departed from Scandrick, Mo Claiborne and Brandon Carr ?

and Byron Scott ? ...wasn't he the shooting guard for the Lakers back in da dayz ? :p

Is 5.5 that much different than 7, considering awuzie is a decent margin better.

Seems like a weird move, but not enough money to get upset about. I have a hard time believing anyone else was offering that much.

New coach must like him for that money and so early in free agency. Normally we'd let him twist in the wind and hope he got little interest.

I wonder, too, if Jerry knows about the impending tv contracts, knows they will be a big jump, and is pricing a little of that into his offers.
Definitely some behind the scenes info we are not privy to.

They can't let everyone walk and while Lewis isn't an A player, they need lower B's and C's as well.

They might have a better secondary with a better front 7.

Why not ? we did it before when Claiborne and Carr walk ( and didnt we cut Scandrick in same year?)
and we drafted Awuzie and Lewis in same year. ..and drafted Brown a year before.
