What do you want out of this FA period?

To be fair, and I dislike the Jones boys as much as any, NFL FAs are usually a dime a dozen. Few make a huge impact. Some are solid. Some are busts. What do you really want from Dallas considering their cap situation?

I think the draft has to go heavy D except for OT. Given that I wish they would grab 2/3 FAs that can maybe start but be valuable rotation guys. I think DT, LB and S are the biggest needs. Have to replace Joe T who was the best LB on the team last year. Maybe Boston or Vacarro at S. Ragland at LB to be a run stuffer. Rankins or Shelton at DT. They might be too expensive.

What are you really hoping to see?

I wanted them to fix one of their clear holes - S or DT - with a real player. Not some bargain bin reject or older veteran you hope will play for less. I wasn't asking or expecting them to spend like drunk sailors and try to address every hole with a good player. Just fix one, allowing a bit more flexibility in the draft. That's it.

They continually try to plug these holes with warm bodies and the random draft pick and yet for the last 4-5-6 years we keep having the same discussions in the offseason - why is S and DT play not getting any better?

I want a few decent FA's, that can fill holes until any draft picks step in. Those being mid round draft picks. As the 1st 2 picks should start, 3rd pick contributes and eventually starts.

I don't get some fans. They want to sigh these high profile FA's, that usually do not turn out to be THE difference maker. Then turn around and whine about spending too much money on any one players contract.

So far I hope they do sign a few better FA's to at least look like they will help such as they did last year. However, did last years FA group make them gun shy this year.

Right now, we signed 2 FA's, lost 4. Resigned 4 of our own, and tendered offers to another 3.

They have holes at DT, S, CB, can use another LB and another DE, Would like the next LT found as well. The LT will probably come via the draft, of the other 5 needs find me 2-3 quality starters in free agency as its impossible to find 5 starters in the draft. I'd like more depth at TE, but that's a nice to have not a need. And to be clear, a guy coming off an injury, or a rapidly declining 33 year old that maybe has another year left, is not good enough. These are guys that good teams add for depth, But Dallas adds and pawns off as starters, see Poe/McCoy/Dix...aka not good enough.

Go look at all the NFL FAs. The hit rate is a lot lower than you think.

I’ve been hoping for some real defensive help. Doesn’t have to be an All Pro. Just some guys that can play consistently and help. Tired of the Hahas, Poe’s, Christian Covingtons.....you know....guys that either don’t even make the roster or have zero impact.

I’m not one for spending a ton in FA. We haven’t had much cap space to spend a lot anyway. But let’s be honest- this organization has been terrible overall in FA for years.

This certainly puts more pressure on the draft having immediate impact. That’s not all bad. The draft is always the primary rebuilding and improvement tool. But FA should help some, not zero %.

Good post. If you can't stop the run, you end up like last year.First thing is first.

I would have shut my mouth and been happy with ONE solid addition that is the clear starter at a position of need.

I'm tired of having to take chances on guys that have been injury prone and will play cheap because of it.

This team loves their whole.....he would have been great of not for the injuries or the drugs etc.....then those players continue to get hurt or suspended....

I like this list. Throw in Hyder at 3T and we’ve got some players. We let Hyder go last year after he made a lot of plays for us and he got 8.5 sacks for SF......

I hope that they don’t piss off cap space on a player that they cut before the season starts. If they can’t play, don’t sign them.
