This is a no trade mock draft that I've done. This is to play out a scenario on PFN for what our draft would look like if we took Pitts. In this draft, Pitts was on the board, and the few trade offers we had were abysmal at best (for the record, I'm still strongly on team trade down if the comp is good). Additionally, Slater was off the board. So, in this scenario Pitts was selected first. I will be posting a video, measurements, and my explanations for each pick. Tomorrow or Wednesday, I'll be doing a mock draft with a trade.
Round 1 (10). Kyle Pitts TE Florida 6'6" and 240 lbs
As stated previously, he was on the board, the trade offers were abysmal in value for this pick, and Slater was off the board. So, Pitts was the logical choice here. With the news of Caleb Farley having surgery, my choice came down to Pitts and Surtain. I decided, for the purpose of this scenario, to take Pitts, experiment with the scenario, and share the results of this experiment.
Round 2 (44). Alim McNeill DT NC State 6'2" and 320 lbs.
1T DT. McNeil fills a huge need for us. Excellent run stopper, and he's no slouch at pass rush. Possibly my favourite DT behind Barmore and Tufele. Tufele was off the board here, so McNeil was the logical choice here for me. He's surprisingly athletic for a guy his size. Yet, he's a hard hitting DT that you do not want your RB trying to run on.
Round 3 (75). Talanoa Hufanga S USC 6'1" and 220 lbs
As I watched highlight videos of this player, I have grown to like this player a lot. Holland was off the board here, so hello Hufanga here! Hufanga reminded me a lot of Troy Polumalu as I watch. He's a hard hitting S. He's a bit of a throwback in that. However, he's also athletic enough to play FS, as you may be able to see in the highlights here. Put him in the secondary with Wilson, and we'll have a nice combo at S. He's also good at S blitzes as you'll see against Iowa. All in all, a sleeper of a safety imo.
Round 3 (99) Chazz Surratt LB North Carolina 6'3 and 230 lbs.
Former QB who converted to LB. Smart player. Look at how he harasses the QB for Syracuse. He's also good against the run, which will help us of course. He's excellent at diagnosing plays and making the tackle. He sort of reminds me of Sean Lee in terms of his smarts and the way he plays. Especially with McNeil and Urban/Gallimore upfront, Surratt would give us a solid LB prospect against the run. By and large, Surratt would be a nice addition to our roster.
Round 4 (115) Ambry Thomas CB Michigan 6'0 and 182 lbs.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i2YohjlWlgc
This player deserved 2 videos. He's a solid CB prospect to replace Awuzie. He's got good size and can play the outside well. He's also good against the run. Additionally, he doubles as a nice KR as well. Thomas would give us a option along with Pollard and Cedric Wilson returning kicks. It'd be nice to have a threat at KR like Thomas.
Round 4 (138) Victor Dimukeje DE Duke 6'3" and 265 lbs.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oMVBMk09adc&t=25s
Victor Dimukeje is a solid pass rushing DE prospect. He'd rotate with Gregory (makes a nice replacement for Aldon Smith) in my view. Look at how he hits the QB for, I believe Boston College. He doesn't just take him down. He literally forces the QB to drop the ball with how hard he hits him. Looked like a train hitting a Smart Car. Also not too shabby against the run.
Round 5 (179) Cornell Powell WR Clemson 6'0" and 210 lbs.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FRerm3BvOAA
Powell would be a sleeper WR who I think could replace Gallup. I like what I see a lot from him. He's a physical WR, and he's good with jump balls from what I can see.
Round 6 (192) Shemar Jean-Charles CB Appalachian State 5'11 and 190 lbs
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PcYz6Lg2z7k&t=28s
Sleeper of a CB who would battle with Anthony Brown, but could also challenge for the outside as well. He's solid in coverage, and he's good against the run. Look how he knocks the ball away in the first part of the video. That's beautifully done! He intercepted Texas State with great athleticism from what I saw. That was a nice pick.
Round 6 (227) Josh Ball OT Marshall 6'8" and 309 lbs.
Here's an excerpt from his PFN Profile instead of a video:
Positives: Florida State transfer coming off a tremendous senior campaign. Moves well for a big man, keeps his knees bent, and blocks with leverage. Sets with a wide base, stays square, and shows strength at the point. Makes outstanding use of blocking angles in pass protection and anchors at the point. Attacks assignments, turns defenders off the line, and finishes run blocks. Displays good awareness, quickly picks up assignments, and is very effective with his hands. Gets a pad on defenders and shows the ability to knock speed rushers from their angles of attack. Negatives: Shows some stiffness and overextends into blocks. Lacks quick, fluid footwork off the edge. Analysis: After being used on a rotational basis in 2019, Ball moved into the starting lineup as a senior and took his game to another level. He possesses size, growth potential, and enough athleticism to eventually develop into a starting right tackle in the NFL. I know, I know, I waited a long time to address OT. However, this player turned out to be a steal here imo. It's hard to find highlights of olinement in general, especially players like Ball. I like how good he is with his hands, and the way he uses his leverage when blocking. He's an excellent run blocker, which Zeke would like. He's impressive for someone his size with his ability to move and block.
Round 7 (238) Khyiris Tonga DT BYU 6'4" and 322 lbs.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sHEvUka8hSY&t=89s
Sleeper of a 1T DT. We need help there. Tonga gives us excellent depth there. I was very pleased to be able to draft him at this spot. Gives us 2 nice 1T DTs in this draft to use to stop the run.
I hope you all enjoyed it. Thoughts?
