Do People Really Think Surtain Goes Before 10?

Nobody will please everyone.

Surtain - A lot of people don’t want a CB at 10 no matter what. A lot of people think he’s slow (lol). A lot of people would be happy with him and think he’s a sure thing. Some see a day one starter and others see a guy that will “always get beat deep.”

Parsons - some don’t want to pick an “off the ball” LB that high. Some think he’s all athlete and no football player (not true). Some act like he’s a convicted felon because of a hazing incident. Some think he’s the best defensive player in the draft and would be happy. Some hate Jaylon Smith so much that they’d be happy with Parsons.

Pitts - Many would be thrilled and see him as a hall of fame type player. Many would hate him from the start because he doesn’t play defense. Some would hate him because they hate Jerry so much and see a “flash” player as Jerry’s fault. Some would hate him because they see him like other athletic TE’s who never panned out and “you don’t draft TE in the top 10”.

Slater - Some would hate him because he doesn’t play offense. Some would hate him because “you should be able to build an OL without all first round picks.” Some would hate him because his arms are too short for tackle. Many would love the pick because he’s a versatile lineman that can play anywhere on the line and is a solid as a rock prospect who has excelled at LT.

Some will complain that Dallas is dumb for who they picked and others will be happy with a high level addition to the team.

The truth is that any of them are worthy of the 10th pick and will help the team for the next 5 years. They all have strengths and they all have weaknesses, but Surtain, Pitts, and Slater have little to no bust factor. Parsons floor isn’t as high as theirs but his ceiling is just about as high as the other three ceiling.

The only thing that’s certain is that there will be guys on here arguing about whoever Dallas picks.

LOL .......you covered a lot of ground (LOL), but it's all true though

I think Surtain is the #1 target, but I also think the Cowboys will have several players rated very closely @10 and be ready to pick if he's taken. I still believe JOK is a very strong contender @10.
I think now that they signed Neal I’m not sure they will be looking at taking a similar skill set in round 1. But they need to find another coverage guy at LB so that Smith and LVE are off the field in passing situations.

I would love for you to be right about Koramoah because I think that guy is the perfect Swiss Army knife for today’s NFL. He can do just about anything you want a defender to do.

I’d be more than fine if he was the pick... even at 10 and even though they signed Neal.

The thing I like about JOK is you basically play him as SS or LBer......and/or our 2022 starting LBer is we decide to move on from Jaylon and/LVE next season.

Neal is on a one year deal. He's the perfect guy to show JOK the ropes.

You and me both. I've really come around on him the last few weeks. I think he's the most dynamic defender in the draft and has the highest upside by far. He's as close to a transformative talent on defense as there is in this draft.

I don’t see him as that dynamic and certainly not better than Parsons. But we all like who we like.

The guy can do anything you want him to do.

Put him in coverage and he’s going to cover them. He covers about like a CB... seriously.

Ask him to go find the ball and he’ll do that just about as well as anyone can do it. He’s a heat seeking missile and he gets there very, very fast. He works through trash and finds the ball like only a natural, instinctive LB can. Runners simply don’t get to the edge on him.

The only thing you really don’t want is to ask him to do is take on an OL and in today’s schemes, he wouldn’t be doing that very often.

Put him at SS or put him at WLB and that guy will make plays. I like Parsons but truth be told, I like JOK more. However, the team likes length at LB so I don’t have a lot of hope that they’d take him... although playing Neal at WLB does give me some hope that Quinn might talk some sense into them about quickness being important in LB’s.

The prospect your describing is an elite prospect. I don’t see it...

I understand. There are people who don’t, for sure. I know that I like him more than a lot of people do.

What is it that you think he’s not elite at?

Actually, if we miss out on Surtain, we take Stokes at 44. I'm guessing with his speed he could give us similar talent to Farley.
Yes, he is one of the faster corners in the class. It's a shame as Farley had all the traits, plus ball skills.

I don’t see him as that dynamic and certainly not better than Parsons. But we all like who we like.

The thing is, he can do everything Parsons does as a chase down backer and he covers like a DB and he can rush off the edge.

I think he’s obviously a tremendous athlete. Good instincts. Plays fast. Ability to drop into coverage. He’s a hybrid. But honestly there are games I watched Notre Dame and didn’t know he was on the field. I compare him to Parsons and he’s better in coverage but that’s it.

He covers like a DB because he more like a Safety. Parsons is every bit as athletic and he’s 245 lbs. That size matters. The great backers in the league have to be able to take on lineman. Devin White IMO is the prototype. He’s 230 lbs but look at his legs. He’s able to engage lineman and that along with his other physical gifts makes him elite.

Devin White avoids engaging linemen as much as possible. Lavonte David does most of that from the Mike and White is an off bak chase down guy. Nothing in Parsons film shows him being able to get off blocks. In fact, it shows just the opposite. He's a one dimensional off ball chase down guy. He's a better athlete than he is a football player right now. He also only has two years at the position and just sat out a year.

I’ve seen people saying he’ll be gone by our pick but I just don’t see it. There will 100% be 4 QB’s in the top 9. Sewell and Chase will 100% be taken as well.

Once you take Jax, NYJ, San Fran, and Carolina out of the picture with QB’s; you’re left with ATL, Cin, Mia, Det, and Denver.

-Atlanta will not take him at 5 when they get their pick between Sewell & Pitts or a pricey trade down. Also took AJ Terrell in round one last year and he was good.
-Cincinnati will not take him at 5 when they get Sewell or Chase.
-Dolphins have Xavian Howard and Byron Jones under huge deals and Noah Igbinoghene was a high pick last year. It’s Pitts or WR.
-Detroit literally picked a CB top 5 last year. No way they go back to back with Smith/Waddle/Slater & maybe Pitts to pick from.
-Denver just signed Kyle Fuller AND Ronald Darby to multi-year deals. They also have some young CB’s they hope to develop. I don’t see how they add to their CB room with a first rounder.

I don’t think anyone’s gonna trade up for him, so I’m having trouble seeing how some have him going before us. Who do y’all see spending a top 10 pick on a CB?
I don’t think he’s worth the 10th pick. 25th pick maybe. Someone is going to reach for him and get an average corner, that you could probably get between 15-45.

I’ve seen White engage in lineman plenty of times even from his position. He’s obviously not the Mike and doesn’t have to engage to that degree but I’ve seen that dude blowing up lineman. If Parsons is one dimensional what is JOK ? He’s better in coverage and that’s it.
