After hearing about how the Cowboys plan to be flexible with how they use Neal, I wanted to give this kid another look. I'm looking at him through a different lens now and basically just viewing him as a SS that could play nickel LBr on 3rd downs.

With that change in perspective, I really like this dude now. I never really liked him as a LBr and thought there was some risk with a position change but when you watch him at ND he's basically playing S some of the time anyway with how hybrid his role is.

10 is still way too early for me, but he's someone I'd have an eye on in a trade down or trade up scenario. Really like the speed he could bring to our defense.

Welcome to my world.

The athleticism and speed that he would add to the Cowboys linebackers (and defense overall) would be significant. He would allow you to do so many different things that, IMO, his value is high.

I think people who are saying that he’s too small for LB are viewing the position through a 1990’s lens and not taking into consideration how LB’s are used today.

Good post.

Well to be clear, I still don't like the idea of drafting him as a LBr at all. If we do, and expect him to come in and get off blocks and impact the run game he's going to fail.

If we draft him as a SS and let him play nickel / dime LBr I'm all in. I"ve done a complete 180 on the kid if we use him right.

I like him a lot. He just makes a ton of plays out there.

But I can't take him at 10. I am on the record as being anti-Pitts at 10, for example. But if the choice was JOK or Pitts at 10, I'd take Pitts. There is big upside with JOK but also some real risk given his size, etc. You have to have the right coach to make him work.

I was trying to tell you back in December lol...

Just messing with you, but good to see you went back and looked with an open mind. Too many people are too stubborn with their takes on a message board.

Also agree with you that JOK was basically playing a box SS role at ND. Can’t go back and look at the #’s at the moment but Neal played within 10 yards of the LOS something like 65+% of the time while playing “SS” for Quinn in Atlanta. Hybrid or versatile, whatever you want to call it, it’s extremely important for all LB’s and SS’s in the NFL now. Being a weak tackler or bad in coverage is unacceptable in today’s game, you need guys that can do both.

10 is too rich...I'm hoping he falls as teams generally don't draft safeties high. I'd trade back into the bottom of the 1st for him.

I should've listened!

helluva player who is just too good not to find his way onto the field.
Quinn has excelled using under-sized LBs.
i wouldn't mind at all finding a role for him in our defense.

You don’t use him in a way that he’s taking on blocks. That isn’t what we’re talking about here.

Exactly...if we're drafting him to play SS and nickel/dime LBr for coverage...I"m in.

If the team drafts him with the intent of making him an every down off ball LBr, huge mistake IMO.

I believe D Jeremiah's last rankings had him around 17. I wouldn't mind moving back to that range for JOK and then most likely targeting a CB with the extra pick.

I might be getting greedy, but I absolutely love the idea of Parsons at 10 and trading to the back end of the 1st to get our top Safety target. JOK might be gone by then, but we could land someone like Gant / Moehrig.

3 different style safeties but all 3 could help.

If Parsons isn't available at 10 I think I could get on board in trading down to the late teens and taking JOK. No idea what teams would be partners and be looking to move up but if I could trade down to 18 and get Miami's 2nd round pick at 50 I'm doing it.

Youd want moehrig AND Grant?

I don’t think there is any way this team takes a LB in round 1. My hope is that they will look at least at adding a LB with an eye on next year.

I am not on the Parsons as a top 10 pick train. I see lots of risk. Too much for me to consider with a premium pick. Actually I'm not sure where i would consider taking him, that's how much he scares me.

If you could end up with JOK, a CB (like Newsome for example) and Grant \Moehrig as your top 3 picks I would say you did very well. top that off w Alim McNeil or similar IL and I wouldn't really care what happened after that.

To each their own...strongly disagree on Parsons.
