How would you do it, what do you offer and with what team?

We can’t afford to trade up too far.

We’ve ignored free agency and the only upgrades from last season will be rookies and we have no defense to speak of.

I’m all for taking Pitts but unfortunately we suck so bad at player acquisition that we need every draft pick possible and can’t trade up more than a couple spots of that.

I’m thinking Dallas would have to move up to 5 or 6 Bengals or Dolphins. Once the QBs are gone it might take this years 2nd to trade up 6 spots. I’ve got to think Cooper is in play too or Jarwin. I don’t like giving up picks but I’m liking a Randy Moss type dude at TE.

Word is Pitts to Atlanta

So to answer your question, you can't

I really don’t know that they would even draft Pitts with the 10th pick tbh. If Surtain is there, that’s who they’re going to take

They could take Pitts for sure, but I’ve heard a few people on the NFL Network talking about Atlanta taking a QB. Scott Pioli was saying how much both Lance and Fields fit the offense that Arthur Smith is bringing to Atlanta. He said they fit it a lot more than Ryan does and he said how long might it be before they’re in place to get one of the top QB prospects. Plus, he mentioned that next years QB class isn’t looking all that hot.

Doesn’t mean it will happen of course, but it certainly isn’t a slam dunk that they won’t take a QB.

Today, Daniel Jeremiah said as a former scout he’s heard plenty of front office guys saying that they’d take a B- prospect at QB over an A+ prospect anywhere else because QB is so important and you rarely have a shot at the one’s that go in the top 5. He also said that new regime’s like to get their own QB as quickly as possible.

And someone on there mentioned a few days ago that they think Atl could use Ryan this season and then trade him next year when Lance/Fields is ready to start.

I’m just saying that the lure of the QB sometimes makes teams do things they probably shouldn’t.

We’ll know in a month, I suppose.

Good post

If you wanted to try to move up to insure you get Pitts (not saying that I want to), I’d have to let it get to about Detroit’s pick at 7 before making a move. If Atlanta wanted Pitts at 4 (or Cincy at 5), you’d just have to let him go there because the cost would be too exorbitant to go up that high.

However, moving from 10 to 7 might not cost that much and if I wanted him that bad, I’d explore that with the Lions.

I can see ways where Pitts can fall down to Dallas but it isn’t likely and IMO, if he starts getting to 7,8,9... then the danger would be someone like Philly making a trade up to around those picks to steal him.

Like Daniel Jeremiah said today, he is the type of talent that will induce a team to move up and give up some picks to get him.

I don’t think that Detroit (7), Carolina (8), or Denver (9) will take Pitts because:
  • Detroit just spent a top 10 pick on TJ Hockenson and needs WR badly. They’d likely have their pick of Waddle and Smith most likely. One of those two should be there at 10 as well.
  • Carolina is hot after a QB, although they could go TE.
  • And Denver just spent a first on Noah Fant and they love his backup as well. Plus they love Parson I hear.

However, IMO there is a good chance he goes in those picks to a trade up.

So, I think if Dallas wants him that much they’d have to do something like move to pick 7. With the needs on defense though, they’d have to really love him to move up like that.

Truth is, Pitts is unlikely to land in Dallas.

I think the thing that naught make him slip is his position. It’s similar to a guard. They might be a decade type of talent and they still don’t usually go top 10.

He might go as early as 4 or 5 but I see a reasonable probability of Pitts slipping to 10. Granted some talking heads have him at #2 overall. If that’s the case the odds of him slipping to #10 are less than 50/50. But if he is the #2 player on our board and he slips to #10 he probably needs to be the pick.

lol. so cooper and our top ten pick huh? this sounds reasonable to you?

Simply you don’t. Let him come to you. If he is there than you take him.
That is right. They can take Pitts at 10 if he is there or they can take another player or trade down and get players like Jaelan Phillips with their first pick and Richie Grant with their 2nd.
