Jamar Johnson- FS Indiana

He'll def be in round 3. Maybe 4. That 3 cone is pitiful even at a pro day fir a safety.

So some of the most well regarded evaluators in media watch his tape and say 1 thing, and then you see a 3 cone drill and say they are wrong?

everybody can't be rounds 1-4 guys. SOME will slide. Its just the way it is. I like him alot and wouldnt be mad if we took a chance on him before round 6.My worry is that we draft a guy that needs some developing, he gets better, then he walks at the end of his rookie deal and we lose all that investment into the player. I wanna guy ready to rock and roll now, day 1. Hes not that. He's got all tools but needs to learn technique better.Grant for me, is day 1 ready at 44.
The 6th round is designated for guys who had character concerns and/or injuries....that doesn't seem to fit Jamar Johnson. 6th round seems like a huge stretch. Chances are whoever you draft in the 2nd or 3rd round is not going to be ready day 1. Running backs sure. Maybe receivers. But DB's? Linebackers? Defensive line?

Show me a good safety with a 40/3 cone combo like that

Man......one thing is for certain is people to this day will pass up talents because of scout drills and every single year they all look silly.

Exactly, show me the guy on film. I can find you a ton of guys who look great as athletes and suck at their position.

I’ll take the guy who is proven on film and might be a touch slower or not as quick versus the guy who hasn’t done anything in college yet looks like an all star without pads.

And to answer your question. No...I saw the 3 cone and the 40 and lack of explosion/change of direction. Thats why I said what I said. The so called experts are wrong every year. Now answer my question.

Pro day results were solid, but nothing special for Johnson today.

However, the hype is getting real with Johnson amongst the talking heads. Was hoping he’d be a 3rd round steal, but not sure how realistic that is anymore

I think this guy is calling him a SS strictly due to his 40. He's a pure FS, as has been mentioned he's not the best run guy. Also agree he's a good fallback type, along with Gillespie.

Well, nobody is really talking about this kid but there is a FS/LB at BYU named Zayne Anderson. He's a guy we should really be looking at. His Agility/Speed/Quicks are exceptional for the position. At the very least, he's a Special Teams guy that could prove to be very valuable. He projects to the same role as Neill and possibly FS.

Its so simple to me....what does his film look like? They don't have a drill that measures your heart. Ask Jadaveon Clowney. Tricked people with his combine numbers and no one paid attention to the film which showed a couple of different things good and bad.

There’s absolutely nothing wrong with a safety running a sub 4.6.

And clearly I’m not going to go through all the combine #’s to appease you. Would love to go back and see your posts about DK Metcalf’s lack of explosion and inability to play WR because of his 3 cone drill though.

Also, have you taken Surtain, Horn and Moehrig off of your board for their refusal to run the 3 cone drill? Do you think they did that to hide the great time they were going to run?

His name is starting to get mentioned more and more. He might be a player in which the actual scouts are higher then the media ones. I think he is a fall back option if the team cannot draft either Moehrig or Grant. Probably a need to use a 3rd rd pick on him.

I'd be OK with him in the third. We need to address FS at some point since Kazee is on a one-year deal and we don't know how well he'll recover. However, because Kazee has been a pretty decent free safety and I feel we have bigger question marks at CB and DT, I'd like to address those spots first if the value is right. Something like Surtain, Nixon, Johnson, Shelvin would thrill me. I also like Barmore, McNeill and Togiai along the DL, so get me two of those five plus an early corner and a free safety mixed in during the first three rounds and I think we've addressed our biggest areas of need. I can see improving our linebacker depth as well, but I'd rather pick up a couple in the fourth- through sixth-rounds to compete as depth/possible future starters unless there's a value there in the first three rounds that's impossible to ignore.

Of course, there are a few safeties I like better than Johnson, but who knows which ones will make it to the third round.

Think the NT probably gets drafted in that 3rd rd range, possibly a safety if they haven’t addressed in yet.
