Sewell, Slater, and Pitts are musher better prospects than Surtain and Horn

Honestly Sewell and Slater makes biggest impacts to the offense because it brings protection for Dak and opens the running game for Elliott.
Pitts is a luxary and yes hes a stud BUT is he really needed NO now if any of these three are drafted I'm fine. Surtain and Horn are one player
for the defense and yes we sucked but their overall impact minimal compared the the Offensive line for example. We have a lot of really good
draft positions so taking a OL in the first round want kill us because we should come back in the 2nd through 4th rounds and be able to land
some solid defensive players like 5 of them in total. I'm a strong believer we need to sign KJ Wright LB on a two-year deal. He will be a nice player to add.

surtain clearly has the biggest impact. Starts from day 1 and improves the position dramatically.

IMO I don't think it's even close. Sewell, Slater, and Pitts are guaranteed pro bowl players if they stay healthy. Surtain Jr. and Horn could be a busts or he could be an above average starters. The Cowboys can't reach for a need in this situation. I would be ok with a trade down scenario but I don't think there is good value for a CB at 10. One of those three guys (most likely Slater) will be available at 10. The Cowboys invested a lot in Dak so Slater would be a great selection. He will be a perennial All Pro at guard and will be a borderline Pro Bow LT. Whatever is needed. Tyron's Smith's injury history makes Slater a great selection. The Cowboys are great at drafting o-lineman (Tyron, Frederick, and Martin) and have a dubious history drafting CBs (Claiborne). They should stick to what they're good at. I wouldn't mind Asante Samuel Jr. in the 2nd round. They should also consider signing Casey Hayward to a 1 year contract so they won't be tempted to reach for a CB.
yea probably

I feel Surtain and Slater's value is about equal. And I would pick Surtain over him because of the greater need at the position (starter at corner vs. replacing starter possibly unnecessarily on OL). As I've said elsewhere, I'd feel a little better about an offensive pick if we could trade the player he'd replace, but it's hard to know what kind of value those vets have.

I do agree, though, on signing Hayward or Sherman, so that we're not forced to take a corner early if it's not the best selection.

Ehh Sewell and Pitts I agree. I don't think Slater is a top 10 player and I do think Surtain is. I'd rank them Pitts, Sewell, Surtain, Slater, and Horn. I wouldn't be disappointed with Slater at 10, but I think he's in the 12-15 range and I've definitely got Surtain 2-3 slots higher.

You must not have watched enough Slater tape.....

Sure, either that or you didn't watch enough "tape" of these players.

1. T. Lawrence
2. J. Chase
3. K. Pitts
4. P. Sewell
5. Z. Wilson
6. D. Smith
7. P. Surtain
8. J. Waddle
9. J. Fields
10. M. Parsons
11. C. Farley
12. C. Darrisaw
13. R. Slater

A lot of what makes an offensive line great is continuity. If the Cowboys coaching staff feel that a lineup of Smith, Martin, Collins, Williams and Biadasz, with McGovern and possibly Looney as main backups, can do the job, I can see them sticking with them and letting them get time together. Meaning they'll bypass Sewell and Slater, if either are available at 10....

They might pass on Slater but if Sewell is there I highly doubt they pass on him. I would be shocked.

He isn't a true #1 corner imo. More of a #2 CB like Anthony Henry or Brandon Carr. Ramsey is a true blue chip #1 CB. Drafting Zeke over Ramsey is still haunting the Cowboys.

I'd have serious mental question about this organization if they simply bypassed Sewell at 10.

Hated every minute of that draft.

What is it you dont like? He checks all the boxes.

He isn't fast to enough to be a true shutdown CB. The value just isn't there at 10. I'm not saying he will end up like Mo Claiborne but I think Anthony Henry is a good comparison.

Well we can disagree on this one. He is big, physical, comes from a great program and ran a sub 4.5 40. He isnt Deon Sanders but him and Diggs would be a heck of a tandem for the next 10 years. And the fact that they starred together just a year ago makes it a slam dunk. I would also be happy with Horn or Farley with a trade down.

lets just imagine that we take Pitts. What stats do you imagine him putting up on a yearly basis?

Didn't say I would agree with the coaches if they do what I said they might. ;)

And a lot depends on who goes before the 10th pick, of course. We're just throwing out scenarios...
