Trade Back is a real possibility

The traditional value chart says #10 is worth exactly #18 and #50, the Dolphins picks. I'd expect to get a little more than that, a 6th or something.

The chart also says that #10 is worth just about exactly #23 and #34, the Jets picks.

So yeah, these are really interesting possibilities. I sure wouldn't mind having 23, 34 and 44. There's a lot of draft analysis suggesting that 1st-rounders are overvalued and 2nd-rounders are undervalued.

23, 34 and 44............. maybe I could parlay that into a combo of Moehrig, Stokes and a DT like Barmore or McNeill or Nixon.

I heard on NFL radio today that the Falcons and Lions may be looking to trade down. With multiple teams trading down it may be hard for Dallas to find a trade partner - unless one of the QBs drops. I also heard the Patriots may be looking to trade up for a QB. According to all the talking heads, Lawrence, Wilson, Jones, Fields and Lance are all potential top 10 picks.

What about the possibility of Dallas trading up? They moved up to take Morris Claiborne. Would they move up to take Surtain, or not after getting burned with Claiborne?

Bingo!!!!!! you beat me to it .....the further you move from top 10, it gets real risky, especially for Jerry, Stephen and McClay. I was just reviewing all Cowboys 1st round picks since Jerry bought the team in 1989. Just wanted to see if there was any sort of pattern draft for their drafts in and around the top 10. They've actually done well selecting in the top 10 range but outside of 15, they tend to struggle.

Are we looking at the same list? Recent picks beyond 15:
Lamb
LVE
Charlton (yuck)
Byron
Martin
Frederick
Bryant

That's a pretty phenomenal list. I don't really think what happened over a decade ago is particularly relevant.

Just keep in mind, these are the types of prospects that a team would give up an additional pick for. Pitts is a generational talent, passing on him could be like when we passed on Randy Moss, yes he is that good.
PITTS IS A TE. WE DON'T NEED A TE ANYTIME SOON.

What is so hard to understand about that? ^^^^

Take the top 10 blue chip talent, I do not trust this FO in trade scenarios and the talent further down the line are simply not even close to top 10 pedigree.

I'm far from a draft wizard, but just glancing through some previous drafts it looks like trading back for more picks is the right move. There's just as many CB busts around our pick as there are gems in the last 1st/2nd. We obviously don't want to just take any trade back, but looking at some of the recent trades it looks like we could get a haul if the right player/s fall to 10. Now whether you trust the FO to make the right picks is a different argument, but even if you don't trust their judgment wouldn't you rather have more chances? There's not really anyone that could "fall" to us that really excites me while also filling a need. Again, I'm not nearly as knowledgeable as most of you, so maybe one of the CB's is worth that pick but even then I like getting one later and adding some assets along the way.
