Falcons getting calls from several teams for 4

These teams frantically trying to position themselves for a QB, why don't they just sign one of their bad ones for 40 million a year and enjoy all the distinct advantages that come with that?

I mean you could say that 6 and 18 is too much, and like I said originally, that's a lot of logistics I wouldn't do. Or, you can be loading up offense with 6 and 18 to surround Tua, and then be loaded to make a move in 2023 if you want. I just don't think it's as black and white as pick numbers.

The point is that they had the third pick to start out. If you didn't like Tua, you could just pick a QB there. With the trade you propose, they would give up draft pick value (lots of it) to drop from 3 to 4. It doesn't make sense.
 
I wrote the other day in another thread that I thought someone was going to give ATL a haul to get into a spot to get Pitts.

If you want him, and he apparently the greatest TE ever to play the game, you'd better get in front of Cincy and Miami.
 
Don't exclude that these teams might be moving up for Pitts.

Doesn't make a lot of sense to me either. Seems to me as if Grier would not want that. He spent a lot to get Tua and now he would make this move? Would seem to scream incompetence but that's just my opinion.

You're overstating the loss of draft pick value. Moving from 3 to 4 and effectively netting a third-round pick is fine. You're misrepresenting Tua, if he's not the guy you want as your franchise QB, then he is an anchor, not an asset. Look at it this way..

Give: #3 and #18
Receive: #4, #20 in 2023, #156, the opportunity to dump Tua.

You've done nothing but moved down a spot, gained a third rounder and dumped Tua, and that's without accounting for other picks and options there.

Like I said, it's more logistics for too little gain than I would do, but if you originally thought you could get a QB at 6, don't think that's possible now b/c you're worried about getting jumped, then you have to make that trade.

You're not giving up draft value, you're just doing a lot of work to not get much back. But that could be predicated on them moving back to 6 and thinking a QB would be there, then getting nervous and wanting to move back up.

It wouldn’t surprise me a lot if New England trades up and takes Pitts.

Robert Kraft said in an interview a few days ago that their drafting in NE has left a lot to be desired in recent years and that in order to get more talent they need to change tactics. They have been more trying to accumulate picks by moving down and like Kraft said, they suddenly don’t have much talent.

The opposite of what Belichick has been doing is giving up picks to move up for more blue chip prospects.

So, I about half expect them to move up for big talent... and Billy Boy does love his tight ends. I know they spent big in free agency on the position but you just know he is salivating over Pitts.

I don't understand how you arrive at your valuation. I am looking at it the way you presented it.

1. Move from #3 this year -> #4 this year. The chart says you lose 400 points.
2. Move a 1st-round pick this year (18) -> a first-round pick two years from now(!!). The chart says you lose about 700 points, because each year in the future drops the pick value by a round.
3. Get #156 and a 3rd-rounder next year (you forgot that one). The chart says you gain about 100 points.

So you've lost 1000 points of draft value and given away Tua to boot.

You can quibble about the chart values for future picks, but this is insanity. Put it this way. You would never be willing to drop from #3 to #4 for only two third-rounders, one of them deferred. You're proposing the Dolphins do that AND defer a first-round pick for two years. That's already nuts. But then you toss in Tua as well?! He's not an "anchor:" you could absolutely trade him for positive value. Heck, Josh Rosen brought a second-round pick. Look what Darnold just brought. You don't think Tua has ANY trade value on his own?
 
Winning those damn meaningless games in November gonna end up screwing us again. We were on track to have pick #3 before we beat the Bengals.

We couldve gotten the same deal the Dolphins got from the 9ers

Yeah. I guess we could've told our players to not try....earning them scorn and humiliation around the league, risking injury, and possible future earnings in FA.

Selfish players that play to win....jerks...

My point is that I don't care about the chart, and neither to NFL teams. Miami doesn't care about moving from #3 to #4 if they think the quality of player is the same.

You're also being too literal with that proposal - which is my fault. Of course there are other pieces involved to make it more even.
