I was in a BBQ restaurant in Newport News, Virginia yesterday with the family. When I got up to go to the bathroom, I saw in the corner a signed and framed Bobby Carpenter jersey. It was the biggest "what the hell?" moment I've had in a while. I can only hope that the owner of the restaurant is somehow related to Carpenter. That's the only logical reason I can see for having that questionable piece of wall art around.

Thought you were going to say they use it as a tablecloth or made it into throwaway napkins.

he was very good coming out of college and he was a first round pick....who knows maybe the guy got it in his first year and put it up before he was a total bust.

Sure ... you're a restaurant owner and a Cowboys fan. You somehow get a signed jersey for the team's new draft pick in 2006 and proudly display it in your restaurant. That guy turns out to suck ... and you leave it on the wall for 15 years???

I made a call once to a home in Sunnyside, Houston. Looked on the wall and saw an Orie Lemon jersey. You remember him? He didn't do much, and wasn't a blue chip prospect like Carpenter. I knew there was only one way you own and display that jersey. I asked the residents if they were family and sure enough they were. I think he was in KC by that point, but it was still kinda cool. They were suprised I knew who he was lol.

Carpenter only hurt us. He took part in perhaps my most frustrating memory of Tony Romo. I cant remember if he had 2 or 3 picks, but Romo and the boys absolutely collapsed vs Detroit. I didn't want to re-sign Romo after that game. It was disgusting lol. Then to boot we got that olineman from them who also single handedly lost us a game on a false start to wind down the clock, if I remember right.

Maybe he was a big fan of the guy in college....you never know, and even though he sucked as a pro it’s still a signed jersey by a former 1st round draft pick....maybe you wouldn’t display it but for this guy he may feel different

I'm about 99% sure that's how it went down. Otherwise it's pretty inexplicable.

Can you try again with some making sense included?

He was a consensus 1st round pick with many scouting reports saying he'd be a better pro than teammate AJ Hawk.

Please get your facts straight.

I do have them straight.
Take a player and every other week switch him from ILB to OLB and never get into one position to learn. They did this from day one throughout TC and even during the season.
Bill SCREWED up.
I am not defending Carpenter or saying he would live up to a 1st round pick, but they did screw up.

They did the same crap with Tyrone Crawford throughout his career.

Wow. That was a terrible take. Carp never played Olb for us. In the 3-4 OLB is a stand up pass rusher. No one ever saw Carp in that role. Ever.

More talking crap without any facts straight.
