Trade Down with the Bears

Not sure what the Bears would offer but it’s desperation city in Chicago. Rumor on all the sports talk radio was the offer for Wilson was 3 1st rounds picks a 3rd in this draft + Jaylon Johnson and Roquan Smith.
Hoping the Falcons don’t want too much to move up 6 spots. Then we can try to turn it into more picks.

This situation only would happen if 1 of the 5 quarterbacks is still available at 10. Living in Chicago, it’s obvious the Bears are desperate for any hope at the quarterback position. Everyone was against the Dalton signing, wanting to just hang on to Trubisky for another year instead of the old vet.

Hypothetic - what if Chicago offered 1st(20) 2(52) and Jaylon Johnson. I know that is a lot to move up 10 spots but it’s a premium to move up for a QB. All 5 will probably be gone in the first 9 picks anyway.

I don’t know what the trade value chart says, but that’s a huge drop from 10 to 20. Talent level is going to drop off significantly at around 12-14.

Pretty cool hypothetical.

fwiw
I'm guessing if we trade down from 10 to 20, it would be this

  • Dallas gets 20, 52, 83
  • Chicago gets 10, 99

But sure, I'd like to get Jaylon Johnson but your trade only says Chicago values him as an early 4th rounder....which is probably not the case.
If I’m dropping 10 spots at this point in the draft, I’m raping them or I’m not moving that far down.

Johnson would be nice, but its really hard to project players into draft day trades. Just go with picks

Chicago is the most likely dance partner IMO. Especially if all the non QB teams fall in love with somone in the top 10
Wouldn’t be a draft d
If you are trading down 10 spots to 20 and not getting two first round picks, you failed the trade. You are giving the Bears their franchise quarterback for a second and a cornerback prospect? Hell no!!! I am starting to wonder if some of you all are really Cowboys fans.:thumbdown:
Jaylon Johnson was a stud in his first year hardly a prospect. The only way the Bears make this trade is out of desperation for a QB.

I get it.

All it means is you would have no trade, because there has been no 1st rounddraft raping—outside of maybe for the top 2 picks—in 15 years or more.

I dont think Id want to drop down that far either.

This trade could happen, but I'm guessing nothing too exicting for Dallas this year, however,
we get Chicago 2022 first rounder which is the gold! That could be a 2022 top ten pick!

No way I'm doing this trade w/o Bears 2022 1st. They are coming up for either a QB or likely day-one starter (hell, top 10 pick), sending us down 10 spots where our chances of a day-one are reduced .........a lot. IF I'm trading down, my preference is to stay in the top 15.

They are not offering a 2nd year cb that was outstanding in year 1
I wouldn’t think so but Chicago is desperate for a quarterback. This front office is being roasted for what has happen not only this off season but the last 4 years. Passing of Mahomes and Watson for Trubisky. This summer the belief was Wilson or Watson coming to the Windy City.

We would win the trade according to the trade value chart. The key would be including Johnson, our Starting CBs would be set for the next 3 years. At 20 the target would probably be a edge rusher or linebacker. With 6 picks in the next 3rds we could target specific positions.

You’re right
One trade that would be considered “fair” in todays NFL trade circles would be just what you described,

because a 2022 1st is given a present value of a mid to upper 2021 2nd rounder (say pick 44 or so) that trade works

  • Bears get 10. (1300)
  • Cowboys get 20 and a 2022 1st. (850 + 460 = 1310)

Near perfect match

Its not exactly the trade up Mahomes at 10 a few years ago, but similar

Why do this trade instead of the hypothetical one I proposed? I would rather have a 2nd this year + Jaylon Johnson instead of a 1st next year, not knowing we’re it will be.

You're trade was fine!
Great idea, actually, if the Cowboys wanted to go that route.

It's just that once you throw in a player (vs just draft picks) it becomes completely hypothetical vs analytical.
People can assign any value they want to a player and it can range from 1st round to 7th round and nobody can prove otherwise.
That's all.

Both trades work though.

Your right - my hypothetical would need to be worked out probably days, maybe week in advance, with the assumption that what QB the Bears want is available and maybe who we love isn’t.

That's not true. It is possible to get a future 1st-rounder in such a trade, but it's certainly not the norm.
