Lack of experience in coverage is a good way to put it. Parsons rarely got used in anything but short zones and blitzes on passing downs, so in terms of his ability to handle difficult man or deep-zone calls, we just haven't seen it. But he was very capable in the assignments he was given, and has the all-world athleticism to handle more.
Devin White wasn't a great cover backer at LSU, and didn't recognize run plays as fast as Parsons does. But he got drafted top 5 anyway on a combo of outlier athleticism and attitude hitting, and Parsons is better than he was coming out. He's not getting the love he deserves IMO, partially because he has some very concerning off the field incidents, but mostly because he sat out for a season and we forgot how damn good he was.
