Kiper Mock 4.0 4/13/21

I actually agree with Mel on this one. Although I think it more likely they give up their second this year instead, that's a good trade for us either way. We got very good value on a very good player and another good pick.

I like it. I'd need something from this year too though.

Tryon at 44 isn't my favorite, but I actually love the idea of going pass rush there. I thought Perkins could be an option there, and Tryon is a similar player.

That trade which involves a future 1st is a horrendous overpay but I'd be pretty happy to take NE's future 1st and 4th giving back a future 2nd. They aren't gonna be good without a QB so that 1st has a bit of value. If we did manage to trade down to 15 I'd be happy to take Horn, and I think I would look to use some future draft capita to get back up and grab Barmore, Ojulari or Collins. I wonder if NO would be willing to bank future picks to allow them to go get a QB next year.

If we finished with something like:
Pick 15 Jaycee Horn (CB)
Pick 28 Christian Barmore (DT)
Pick 44 Richie Grant (S)
Pick 99 Cameron McGrone (LB)

That'd be a hell of an effort.

If Melly Mel would have sent Barmore to the Cowboys at 15 now we're talking about really beginning to fix this defense.

A real DT and an extra first next year is nice.
IMAGINE if we double dip at DT back to back. Taking Barmore at 15 then coming back and drafting either Olijari or Tommy Togiai at 44. lol..wow...Talk about instant fix on defense. wow. It would be the recipe for a quicker rebuild IMO.Drafting a corner is nice, but wont fix much now.

no such thing as too many picks. You can always use them as ammo to move up. Ask New England.

With only one of the top five quarterbacks still available, the Patriots jump five spots with the Cowboys, giving Dallas their 2022 first-round pick in return. The Cowboys don't need a quarterback, so they'd be thrilled to get an offer like this and move down only a few spots, because their biggest holes are on defense and they can get a good player at No. 15.

This would be the first time in the common draft era (since 1967) that five quarterbacks went in the top 10 picks. The quickest that five QBs were picked was in 1999, when five went in the top 12.

15. Dallas Cowboys - Jaycee Horn CB South Carolina

Dallas trades back five spots with New England, gains what would likely be a 2022 first-round pick and is able to plug a need at No. 15. The Cowboys' defense was dreadful last season, and they lost starting corner Chidobe Awuzie in free agency. They can pair Horn with 2020 second-round pick Trevon Diggs, who had a nice rookie season. The knock on Horn is that he had only two career interceptions, but that ball production should come in time.

44. Dallas Cowboys - Joe Tryon DE Washington

Tryon played linebacker, defensive end and defensive tackle at Washington, picking up eight sacks in 2019 before opting out of last season. At 6-foot-5, 260 pounds, he'd play end for the Cowboys, who have an under-the-radar hole behind DeMarcus Lawrence. Dallas could go offensive line here as well.

Yes to the first move and pick. Hell no on the second pick.

Excellent idea. There will be CBs available at #44 that are better players than Tryon. They can fix the problem with backing up Lawrence by signing Aldon Smith. I cannot imagine he wants a lot of money. Or use a 3rd round pick to get a DE.

Draft good interior guys on both sides of the ball and smart tough linebackers in this draft, then watch how fast we improve. We are too pretty on defense and thats a huge problem.

Tryon I like more and more I watch him. I really think he’d be a solid pickup in the 2nd. Netting two starters and another first? Sign me up

Drafting a corner at #10, or even #15 -- can't be the BPA.

Corners are reactionary players that lack aggression and physicality -- constantly on an 'island' with coverage on receivers, & are highly dependent on the front 7 in attacking and pressuring the QB.
At #10, or #15, draft impact players that are aggressive, and are game-changers -- OL attacks the defense, WR's challenge the defense, DL collapse the pocket and pressure the QB, LB's attack the line of scrimmage, etc.,

Corners are 'island' players -- their impact is minimal, they are contingent on the DL causing the QB to panic (if a QB has time to throw, I don't care who you have in the secondary), & more important drafting them at #10, or #15, a team is leaving more valuable/foundational impact players on the board.

Before you all chime with Patrick Peterson or Jalen Ramsey -- just note some of the front 7 players those corners benefited from during their respective tenures in Arizona and Jacksonville.
In particular, Campbell, Chandler Jones, and Yannick Ngakoue put up high sack numbers -- look up the numbers.

Arizona:
Calais Campbell
Sam Acho
Darnell Dockett
Karlos Dansby
John Abraham
Alex Okafer
Chandler Jones

Jacksonville:
Calais Campbell
Malik Jackson
Myles Jack
Yannick Ngakoue

The most important place on the field is the pocket.
Teams need players that can throw from that spot, that can protect that spot, and that can attack that spot.

The fetish with corners at the top of the 1st round needs to stop.

Give me the best edge rusher in the draft:
Jaelan Phillips.

This is all true and I don’t disagree.

But Horn brings something to this defense we’ve lacked for so long. Grit, swag and in your face trash talking. I’m tired of the “good job guys” in the secondary. I want a guy like Diggs and Horn that will punk the other receivers in the East with the swag of Jalen Ramsey

I like this.

Also, depending on what is available, if I do this trade then i'm trying to trade back up into the 1st round with pick 44.
