Seriously. Go through the list of all time RBs, and you’ll see a list of guys who didn’t win rings, except for Emmitt who played with a HoF qb, and Walter who had the best defense ever.
Putting up 1500 rushing yards is impressive, but it’s not what wins championships.
now look at the list of above average to pretty good QBs who won without great RBs.
Emmitt was an important cog in the machine, absolutely, but Troy was the operator. An average team with an average QB and a great RB will lose to an average team with an average RB and just a good QB.
Thats just how football works. It’s why Matt Ryan gets paid more than any non-QB ever, that’s why QBs are overvalued in the draft, and that’s why they get all the glory. The game is designed around them.
It’s same argument about not drafting Pitts. Positional hierarchy. Of the 22 starting positions on O/D, TE is arguably 22nd most important, even guys like Gonzalez and Witten don’t change a lot in the grand scheme.
Ok That’s gonna be how you see that scenario and situation.
Mine is gonna be totally different than yours.
- And I’ve always detailed examples earlier of how it was Emmitt Smith that the most important and leading cog that got this offense going, how it was mostly structured around him,
and what his presence and production impacted the winning- losing of this entire team and what opposing defenses feared most from this offense.
- Now of course Troy was no slouch, he had his tools and elements too that impacted the team dynasty, and clutch play in the playoffs that made Its mark in our SB drives- especially
that first huge playoff upset win over Niners in NFC title game
- What I noticed that gets lost in the discussions with over glowing of offensive players and Super Bowl teams, is the importance of Defense – for which I am a definite huge believer
that it is the Defense that wins championships . what seems to get lost in discussion is how we Cowboys built a helluva championship caliber competitive defense.
in those SB winning runs that could deal with the Steve Youngs, …Brett Favres, … …. Jim Kellys, ..and that shouldn’t be an overlooked, undervalue element.
- Super Bowls have been won with average QBs (ala Joe Flacco, Nick Foles) but either throughout a game or a critical point at game’s end, it tends to come down to the Defense.
