I don't agree with that. You certainly could be right. Maybe he isn't good enough. But he did his job at Tech.Instead he isn't a very good football player

When was the last time the team drafted and developed a quality defensive lineman? Tank? No more projects!!Come on now. I would love to see a combination of Paye and Williams as our first two picks. I think we all would be surprised at how much better our defense would be. Two quality front 7 players with great athletic traits might be the way to go. Don’t think it would happen but I would keep an open mind about it.
Honestly I didnt see anything elite about soften HillThey probably value him too highly, but he isnt Trysten Williams either. Trysten was a bad player, with a bad attiude and elite traits. They were arrogant in thinking they could mold him. Williams is raw, but he doesn't have Hill's red flags
That's a good point, some of these college teams really don't use these players skillsets right. Not cause of bad coaching most of the time, but rather they need to fill holes on the field.I will say this. With alot of these lower level D1 prospects, you have to consider how they are played and coached as well. Williams played alot of 5T at LAT, and its probably one his worst fits in a DL. He really doesnt have the length to take over at that spot. I remember similar issues with Poe when he came. His tape was so bad, we literally laughed at it on C-F. Especially when they played him in 5 and 6 gaps. Two years later he was an All Pro. At the draft prospect stage in his career, all he really had going for him was his traits and a very good motor. Had very good football character, and that was got him from raw traits prospect to all pro. One of the reasons Im comfortable with a gamble on Williams is that he seems like a self starter
You are right. They're all projects this year, though, in one way or another. Really a thin DT crop. The best are the pure 1 techs, and I'm not sure the Cowboys will pick a DT who doesn't offer much pass rush potential. I happen to disagree with them on this, which probably keeps them up at night. When was the last time the team drafted and developed a quality defensive lineman? Tank? No more projects!!
Let them play their kids at the 3, used top 100 picks on them. Bring in a veteran to help bring them along. Yes, I rather target a 1 Tech. Team usually hates to draft a 2 down player, so a player like Marvin Wilson is attractive. Think him and Togaia are their targets, both have the potential to player either spot. You are right. I shouldn't have said "the best." I should have said the guys most likely to come in and do one particular thing well. Shelvin, Tonga, those guys are prepared to be a wide body who clogs the running lanes and creates a push. But they aren't going to do much in the way of rushing the passer or chasing down stretch plays. When was the last time the team drafted and developed a quality defensive lineman? Tank? I hope you are right about those guys being the targets. I feel like Quinn probably was at Ohio State mainly to see the DT.Let them play their kids at the 3, used top 100 picks on them. Ya elite was probably an overstatement lolHonestly I didnt see anything elite about soften Hill
The speed bump 1 techs are being devalued across the league. They can't do much to stop these stretch plays, RPOs, planned QB runs, etc. They can be schemed into adverse situations. You need a 1 tech with some serious mobility, but those guys don't grow on trees. If Wilson maximized his skill set, I think he might have a chance.Let them play their kids at the 3, used top 100 picks on them. Bring in a veteran to help bring them along. This is where I don't see real DE ability in the NFL. Maybe in a late drive situation where he can beat someone around the edge. But he is a gap shooting 3 in the NFLHe has Jordan Pickford arms
He is a boom or bust prospect for me. I would be sick, if they took him over one of the top three safeties or a quality edge. Agree to disagree, but there is a good chance he becomes a Cowboy based on the reports.
Truthfully Hill does have elite twitch for a big DT. He has an elite first step. He just has a tendency to shoot the gap and flounder around without accomplishing much. But you watch that twitch and first step and dream about what he could do if he would channel his skill set.Ya elite was probably an overstatement lol
I wouldn't say that. He has been productive. The critique isnt he has dominated the competition. However I think alot of that maybe him playing 5TInstead he isn't a very good football player
To me, DT play is the most difficult for folks like us to evaluate. So much depends on what they are being asked to do. I'm not saying we can't recognize a good player, but there is more murkiness than at a lot of other positions.I wouldn't say that. He has been productive. As far as traits based guys we have taken in the first few rounds, Hill is really it. Maybe Taco, but he really wasnt a great traits guy athletically. Maybe you can make a case for LVE, but he was more of a 1 year than a traits based prospect. We haven't hit on most of our defensive draft picks, no matter if they had a high or low floorWhen was the last time the team drafted and developed a quality defensive lineman? Tank? Dead on. It is lazy to say the Cowboys have flamed out from picking based on traits. Honestly, the opposite was true with Marinelli. The Cowboys have gambled on injured guys and guys who had an injury history. They've been burned. And they've had more bad luck on defense than on offense (until last season). As far as traits based guys we have taken in the first few rounds, Hill is really it. I think Awuzie and Lewis are good examples of us taking high floor players. The expectation of both players was that they would be able to come in and play immediately. It worked out, but in the long game, neither player was a guy we were worried about losingDead on. It is lazy to say the Cowboys have flamed out from picking based on traits. But most of us hate to admit that traits do matter. There is a level of athletic ability required to excel in the NFL.
Alot of times they played him out of position in college. Despite his athleticism he is gonna have some limitations in the pro's. Putting him in a position or scheme that requires length to get leverage isnt going to be a place he can thrive. To me he is a 1 gap under tackleHe didn't dominate against lower level competition. What are the odds that gets better in the NFL? That's the concern for me. Probably a moot point anyway. I have a feeling they trade back into the bottom of the first or top of the second for somebody else anyway. With all those picks Jerry will be desperate to show the world how smart he is.
