News: From Peter King: NFC Coach Quote on Cowboys at 10

I’d have no problem with that pick. The real issue is the cowboys have so many holes on their roster that I would have no issue with most picks. They could go Oline, CB, LB, even pitts. A trade down to target a DL or S makes sense too.

I see no scenario where the cowboys finish the draft and are ready for the season.

NFC Coach......as in rival coach not wanting the Cowboys to succeed.

Yeah...and in my opinion, all other NFC East teams should draft a punter in the 1st round, I just don't see how they could pass one up, their special teams are deteriorating fast.

And how much playing time does a Slater or Sewell get this year? Prob not much at all, except in a jumbo packages. is that really the best use of a top 10 pick. Neither is going to start over a healthy Smith or Collins. So by picking one of these guys, you are hoping that one of two current tackles fail.

With the way this D played last year and since we just paid the QB like a billion dollars, I would go D, all day long in the draft and tell the new billionaire that he will have to make due with the OL he has for now.

Slater can become the O-Line version of Aaron Donald. Undersized but dominant. Donald was only the 13th overall pick. He also slipped in the draft because of size concerns.

They can both start at LG and eventually take over at LT.

you’re assuming that
A) you actually have 2 healthy Ts for 17 games
B) neither of those rookies could play G for a year or two.

I mean if you can draft Zach Martin again at #10 wouldn’t you?

They become starters this year, just maybe not at OT, barring injury

The flaw is assuming he's a future LT. There are some scouting reports that suggest his future is an OG, not an OT. He's not Sewell, for example.

Well, every single nfl prospect requires projection. That’s the entire nature of the draft.

I think Slater is similar to Zach Martin. Very similar. I think he would be a guy who can excel at guard but also play tackle at a high level if needed. Maybe not quite as good at guard but still very good.

Obviously the cowboys scouts/coaches are the ones who have to really make that determination, how well they think he could do the job.

I think Sewell is a better prospect than Slater overall. But I am operating under the assumption that he will be gone by 10.

Zaac
I wouldn’t be against it at all.

Zach Martin 2.0

(Though I’m not saying he will be quite as good as Zach, but we can hope)
H could move to tackle easily. It his natural position.i have always thought it a luxury to play him at G. When Free left..I thought he would play T.

Yeah I think so too.

I think the cowboys lucking into La’El Collins changed things. If they never had Collins fall to them in UDFA. I think Martin would have been at RT once free retired.

10. DALLAS.
Another trade-up spot for a QB-seeking team if one’s still available. Said one NFC coach: “I can’t see how the Cowboys pass up [Northwestern tackle] Rashawn Slater if he’s there. That offensive line is declining fast.”
"declining fast"

When you have your all-pro center retire unexpectedly and your all-pro LT is hurt most of the year, your top 10 RT is out all year...it looks worse than it is. Assuming Tyron and Collins can come back and play at least 14 games this year, our OL will be one of the best in the league...again.

People don’t want to hear this lol.

They swear Smith and Collins are using walkers to get around lol

I’m putting the over/under of starts for Tyron at 8.5
