Senior Bowl executive director and ESPN draft analyst Jim Nagy worked with Cowboys defensive coordinator Dan Quinn in Seattle and believes Patrick Surtain II would be an ideal fit. “I know what he likes in his corners. I’ve sat in draft meetings with him,” Nagy said. “I haven’t talked to Dan specifically this draft cycle about Patrick but he is that style of corner. We used to call them, ‘Seahawk corners.’ He has that kind of guy. He definitely has the tools that Dan would be looking for.”

As much as I think a deal down is the way to go....I don't see them passing on Surtain if he is there.

They would take Sewell or Pitts if also there before him, but that's not likely.

It's a safe pick and fits the kids conservative personality.

I'm very meh on it but ok. Can't argue they need an immediate starter at CB and he can do it.

Not many others in the draft can start day one and I think that's important to them at pick 10.

You have to also think, Diggs and Patrick are familiar with each other and remain close friends. Playing on the same defense and making them go from bad to elite is likely something they’ve talked about

Good. If Pitts and Sewell are gone (they will) and we aren’t blown away with a huge offer (we likely won’t) I’m 100% happy with Surtain
Me too but if Sewell or Pitts is there, I am taking either one over Surtain and I really like Surtain.

After his freshman season, quarterbacks avoided throwing to their right side where Surtain lurked. In his 26 consecutive starts following the 2018 National Championship, Patrick was thrown at just 99 total times in 1,026 coverage snaps. But even when teams dared to throw in his direction, Surtain remained locked down in coverage. In 2019 and 2020 combined, the Alabama cornerback had 14 pass breakups with 3 interceptions and gave up a pedestrian 11.39 yards per reception. Quarterbacks’ passer ratings would plummet to a measly 66.94 when they chose to target Surtain in coverage.

But maybe the most spectacular stat of Patrick Surtain’s unbelievable 2020 campaign was that he didn’t commit a single penalty all season long. Given his physical, press coverage style, no defensive holdings or DPIs surrendered in 13 straight games may be the most impressive feat of Surtain’s illustrious college career.

I will take Surtain any day of the week. Dallas is very thin at CB so he not only fits BPA he fits a major need

I think having two long rangy corners gives the defense a completely different look. They can just stay home and play one side of field and not follow WR's. Additionally, both are tall enough to cover TE's in certain formations. Next 3-4 picks need to be up the middle. LB, S, DT. Then Jerry can get cute and look for Qb's, WR's TE's and RB's. I think we need a real fast track dude to add to the roster who can top the defense. Anthony Schwartz maybe

I wouldn’t say thin is the word. Top tier talent is what we lack. If we draft Surtain we have our 6

Diggs, Surtain, Lewis, Brown, Goodwin, Robinson II. Looks much better from top to bottom

True, I want guys who are playmakers with that #1 and I do see that is Surtain. I see it in some other players we may end up getting, but if he is there at 10 and Dallas takes him I think it would be a good move on the Cowboys part.
