Destined to be Cowboys

There are certain prospects I watch that just have the look and feel of a Cowboy, and it has nothing to do with whether I like the player as a prospect or not.

For example, here’s a guy that seems destined to be a Cowboy:

WR Seth Williams - Auburn
For one, the guy’s last name is Williams. We love players named Williams. He’s tall (6’-2’ish) and linear. You could say our preferred prototype at the position. I could see us using one of our 4th rounders on him

CB Tyson Campbell - Georgia
Another guy I just can easily envision with a star on his helmet. Traits guys with upside. Can see him being the second corner we take for some reason.

Thats wild that a WR that looks like Seth Williams could go in the 4th round.

WR's really becoming a dime a dozen position.

It’s an interesting phenomena. Do you think it’s because all the more talented kids want to play receiver nowadays? As opposed to maybe some other positions

Spread offense and rules.

It's changing everything.

Just like the NBA become a 3 point shooting finesse league.. The NFL has gone that direction as well.

Which is why I don't value a corner in the 1st round. Corners are not set up for success and the drop off from Ramsey to a tier 2 corner is not that drastic imo.

The best way to get better defensively is play a scheme that forces the offense to be patient and take things underneath and try to go hit the QB.

Sitting in cover 3 is really the way because the soft spots in the zones downfield are super risky to throw into and you don't need all world corners to do it.

I hear ya. I’ve been saying. I really wish there was a stud DT prospect in this draft as I see improving the DL as the main priority.

That’s why I would be ok with a trade down (or second round trade up) to target a pass rusher.

For some reason pass rushing DT's have become unicorns.

10-15 years ago they were everywhere but for some reason the pass rushing DT has disappeared even though the athleticism has stayed the same.

I would be happy with Tyson Campbell. But what is weird about him is his reported 40 time. I saw him run a 4.37 on his pro day which was televised on the NFL channel. But many draft pundits who cover the draft for a living say he ran a 4.5. Not sure what's going on there. He looked plenty fast to me. At 6'1" 193 he certainly has good size.

Seth Williams is big, 6'3", 211 and runs a 4.5, which seems to be the speed Dallas prefers in their WRs. He will not run himself open but with his height, bulk and explosiveness, 37" vertical and 10'4" broad jump, he should win those contested catches. I just don't know if this is what Dallas needs. I'd rather take his teammate, Anthony Schwartz who ran a 4.26 40. I cannot remember the last time the Cowboys had a deep threat like him. And Schwartz isn't exactly small either. He is 6ft tall.

I actually would like to see them end up with Campbell. I couldn't care less about another WR.

It’s certainly fascinating how the league goes through cycles like that.

I'd say that Avery Williams is also destined to become a Cowboy. With Fassell here, the team is investing more on special teams than ever, it seems.

I know people like Campbell because of measuarables but I just dont see a good football player. And Seth is in the Dez mold. He needs to run routes better and stop relying on jump balls

Jevon Holland has Cowboy written all over him IMO.

-Cowboys love doubling up on need positions with min-wage free agents and draft picks. We signed Kazee at FS, so I bet we're drafting another FS.

-Holland's athletic; the Cowboys near-exclusively use their early picks on above average athletes.

-Holland played at a big name Power 5 school, the Cowboys love big school players and Boise Staters (look at our last draft... Oklahoma guy, Alabama, Oklahoma, Tulsa Wisconsin).

-Pretty sure the team has visited with him.

-Holland's draft stock falls right in our second round range.

In other words, as it applies to draft day.....get your rushers early and find corners later.

Your first round corner is going to give up his share of plays, as will the later guys....but your mid round edge may not be able to get near the QB.

Doubt the team sees it this way but we can hope.

The Cowboys are usually the last team to the party when it comes to these things.

Instead whatever corner we draft will get mentioned with Deion i'm sure.

Two of the better Cowboys defenses in recent years were late 2009, when Wade had Spencer playing like a beast oppo DWare......and late 2018 when Gregory and DLaw were consistently pressuring.

Those two are obviously still here, but teams need depth at rusher to kick inside on nickel downs and cover injuries....as well as keeping everyone fresh.

DLaws cap numbers swell to 27+ soon, and Gregory is going to want a few bucks after he puts up decent numbers.

They'd better get ahead of this somehow....but yep, last to the party is a problem. Let's see.

I'm worried they will pass him up at 44 and he will be gone at 75. His range appears to be in the 50's. If they take Milton Williams over him, like Hill over Thornton again, I will bust my TV.

I'd be happy with 3 players between 16 and 60.

If they can somehow make that four, I may begin to think this draft could actually impact things the way the way the team is apparently counting on.
