We don't interpret this as meaning the Dallas Cowboys are thinking of just one position at the exclusion of other possibilities, but a source tells us that "America's Team,'' owner of the No. 10 pick in the upcoming NFL Draft, are "narrowing the focus'' to a debate between Patrick Surtain and Jaycee Horn.

The 2021 NFL Draft is Thursday and the team's draft board is likely all but set. Countless in-house simulations (mock drafts, basically) have taken place. The names of Kyle Pitts, Penei Sewell and Rashawn Slater are among those still in play.

But that trio, plus as many as five quarterbacks, could be drafted within the top nine picks. That distinct possibility - plus maybe Dallas' bullishness on the healthy return of a trio of O-line stars - has put in the middle of the war room table a discussion about cornerbacks, South Carolina's Horn and Alabama's Surtain II.

Gee, who would've thought?!

Gimme either and I'm happy. Personal preference and expectation is Horn because I like his attitude and there are connections to both Quinn and McCarthy. Surtain is the superior player, I think he goes just before us, and even if he's there, coaches win and get the guy they prefer

Barring anything unexpected happening, this is the most likely scenario. Question is, if both are on the board who do they take? Would they consider a small trade back? My guess is, the wouldn't risk it. My gut says Horn is ranked #1 at the position on their board.

I'm not sure Surtain is the superior player. He is definitely more polished and a little better now, but not the superior player by any means. Think Surtain has the higher floor, but Horn has the higher upside. Happy with either player at 10.

Just like Taco over TJ Watt, and Mo Claiborne over Luke Kuechly -- Jerry selects a lesser value player (Horn/Surtain), and watches a better player (Jaelan Phillips) slide down the draft board:

:lmao2::lmao2::lmao::lmao:

Phillips had all of 10 games of college football. Retired once from concussions. One concussion away from never playing football again. Phillips isn’t even the #1 rated DE in a bad draft for DE’s.

not to mention DE isn’t a position of need. Who’s he going to start over? Lawrence?

Randy Gregory love him but you cant rely on him .... DE is definitely a need our DL was awful. DLaw can also kick inside on pass rushing downs. I’d love Philips but probly to much risk for our FO at 10. He’s definitely #1 DE keep reading more about him.

My personal preference is Surtain because of the lesser chance of a bust. Horn may indeed have the higher ceiling, but he also comes with more risk. At #10 overall, I prefer the safer pick.

Why does Horn have higher upside?

Cris Collinsworth.
Mel Kiper.
Bucky Brooks.
Daniel Jeremiah.
Chris Simms.
All have Phillips ranked as either the best DE/edge player in the draft, best defensive player in the draft, or a top 10 player in the draft.

The draft is about the future long-term interest of the organization, not who starts in September.
In any event, Lawrence is trending down, declining, & regressing, and Gregory is unreliable and just a guy.
Dallas has nothing at the DE position.

No it’s not a need at all. Gregory is fine with weed penalties gone. You going to depend on a college player one concussion away from retirement? Wouldn’t touch the kid till the 3rd round.
DT is the problem.

DLaw is 29 and Randy is 28 and never played a full season. They had combined under 10 sacks last year. I know Randy didn’t play the whole year but it’s definitely a massive need. We can move ppl around we need interior and edge. No interior player even close to being worth pick 10 of course.

Much bigger issues. Phillips is a major injury risk. Lowest need in our defense. Pass!

How many games has Phillips missed in college because on injury? Too funny. How many times has Phillips retired from football.

Your relying on two aging players one with injury history and one isn’t dependable. You don’t draft only for 2021. Everywhere on DL is a need, did you not watch us last year.
We can get a quality cb in second and possibly even third. Look at the draft rankings this year loaded at CB.

yah because Phillips is soooo dependable. How many games has he missed in college? How many has he played? 10 total?

Lawrence was a top rated DE last year.

why did Gregory miss games? They don’t even suspend for weed anymore. Your argument is weak. Pass!!
