By chance if Dallas takes Slater in the 1st; has anyone contemplated that he would immediately start at center? Biadazz may have been a fourth round pick last year, but he wasn’t too hot and I’m not sure the Dallas coaches are wedded to him as the near, future center after his freshman performance.

We’d line up one hell of a mobile quintet up front if Slater is our starting center.

I think he'd be slotted at LG in our offense.
I feel that if that were the case we would still not address the center position. Going from Fred to Badasarook was just as catastrophic as going from Dak to gingersnaps. I mean Tyler was bad and there didn’t seem to be a rush on the Cowboys’ end to bring him back from his injury, once he was cleared to play.

I didn’t see the evidence of “bad”. Just the opposite in fact.

Has Slater ever even played center?

I would view him as LG. Connor can be a swing OT/OG.

Then you would have competition between Biadasz and McGovern at center.

Yeah, I think the thinking is if Sewell or Slater is the pick they start at LG. Then either during the season or a few years down the road (depending on Tyron's health), they would move outside.

That’s where I would put him. Keep him ‘left handed’ and on standby for the annual Tyron Smith injury and missed games.

Bingo!!!! .......this kid is our starting LG, backup LT, AND future starting LT. In other words, he'll wear 3 caps

He was ranked pretty low on the scale was he not? I think putting an above average player on the bench and keeping below average starters starting is not a good recipe for success. I believe getting the pivot of our line shored up is pretty key and will be more quickly accomplished with a guy such as Slater there. But I’ve been wrong before too.

He could play either spot. Play the best 5 lineman!

He would start immediately and could play all five spots at a high level depending on who gets hurt.

He was actually one of the highest rated run blocking C's when he played

I have to go with “not” unless you have done evidence to change my mind. If anything, I remember numbers showing his GOOD the kid was.

I agree. I’d like to see left guard upgraded too.

I think most think you’re wrong again. Nothing personal.

Biadasz ranked 33rd out of 37 qualifying centers according to pff (the same site which another poster in this thread got Tyler’s high run blocking grade from).

I believe he was the highest graded rookie center FWIW.

Beyond grades, he was a rookie with no real training camp or off-season. I think we can afford to see what he brings this season.

And they’ve also sung his praises and ranked him well in run blocking while showing that he allowed 1 sack. He was also their all-rookie choice for center. If anything, it tells me that PFF themselves are all over the map.

Google ‘Biadasz PFF’ and you can see for yourself.

PFF gave him the rookie center award, in their words, by default. As he was less terrible than the runner up.

Only two rookie centers played more than 200 offensive snaps this season — Lloyd Cushenberry III at 1,076 and Biadasz at 427. Among 37 qualifying centers, Cushenberry’s 40.5 PFF grade ranked dead last. It’s hard to put a player with that kind of performance on the all-rookie team, which leaves Biadasz as the default selection.

Granted, Biadasz didn’t dominate by any means, either. His PFF grade of 53.6 at center this season ranked 33rd among those same 37 qualifying centers, but he did edge out teammate Joe Looney (53.1) on a Dallas offensive line that was interchanging parts all season. The Cowboys will hope some stability brings better results in 2021.

The only good anyone can lay claim to Biadasz is that he was a very good Wisconsin center that everyone fervently hopes will one day bring the same claim to the NFL.
