Hoooo-boy.

You want a juicy rumor? You’re getting one.

It’s believed that the 49ers offered the No. 3 overall pick, quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo, other players, plus draft picks to the Green Bay Packers for quarterback Aaron Rodgers. Bill Michaels started the fire, attributing the report to Paul Allen of KFAN, with confirmation from others.

As we hear it, the offer was made — and rejected — last night.

A source with knowledge of the situation, however, calls the report absolutely untrue, adding that not a single call has been received on Rodgers. (It previously was reported that the Rams made a run at trading for Rodgers before trading for Matthew Stafford; the Packers denied that, too.) At least one other person in position to have knowledge regarding the situation also has denied that the 49ers tried to get Rodgers, but without going on the record.

As Josh Alper of PFT noted on an intra-company text chain, it’s surprising that the 49ers would try to trade for someone who could be dead by Sunday.

The rumor of a Rodgers trade may not die so quickly. As one source who has heard the rumor explained it, the Packers haven’t restructured Rodgers contract to maximize cap space this year due in part to the possibility that they’ll get an offer for him that they can’t refuse. As another source who hadn’t heard the rumor but found it plausible remarked, it would be interesting to know whether any of this is being instigated by Rodgers — given his frustration with his year-to-year contract status and his potential desire to get to the West Coast, a preference that could soon be enhanced by a possible offer to become the permanent host of L.A.-based Jeopardy!

If true and the Packers said no...they are crazy. So I doubt it is true. Obvious last year that Rodgers will be out of GB within 2 years...this could be his last year.

If true, why didn’t San Francisco just offer the package that they gave to the Dolphins in the first place? That was the better deal.

Not sure it was, stash.

Draft chart says they paid about only 90% of value for the 3rd overall if you value future picks the way teams have been doing now for a while.
Not saying I agree with how they devalue them, but it is what it is.

Even if you bump up the value some to match, it only becomes just an even trade.

Either way....San Francisco would be ridiculous with Rodgers!

But arent you on record as saying that teams cant win or build a contender with QB's getting big money? Another day, another contradiction for you.
Well, Roy, he did say GREEN BAY should do it.
That supports getting rid of a large contract and is consistent with what he's been saying in general.

As for me, I think San Francisco would be the SB favorite if they did it.

True, I take that one back.

Whats your opinion? What’s more appealing to you if you’re running a team?

  1. 3 1st round picks (including #12 this year)?

  2. Or #3 this year, Garoppolo and some throw ins?

No contest for me. I’m taking option 1.

Yes, unless you need a QB and you can get your guy at 3.

In on Rodgers 16 years too late I see

Trading up for Love last year with no plan in place to move on from Rodgers in the next two years was just pure stupidity.

In all likelihood his most of his rookie deal will be wasted on the bench.

Then again, they routinely go deep into the playoffs and we routinely underachieve.

What can the Niners offer. They do not have any future 1st round picks until 2024. I would want Bosa and couple of other players also.

If SF can make it to Super Bowl with Jimmy G - why in the world do they need Rodgers. There is now way they offered that to GB - if they did and GB said no, that's even worse.

I have two thoughts

1) I think Rodgers is phenomenal but I’d take that deal if I were the Pack

2) The reason the Pack didn’t take the deal is because they really aren’t built that well and most of their winning is built on Rodgers being Rodgers. I can’t imagine Jimmy being effective in what they do. I mean I know their D isn’t bad but I think the go from SB contender to rebuild and they’d rather have it in his hands
