Why didn’t we take the Bears trade down offer?

Parsons is 245 lbs. No wonder he's fast right? Now you put him on a team with a lousy DL and he's going to stop the run? I hope so b/c we sure did blow an opportunity to add some great picks. Baremore at 20 would have been more impactful. Chicago's 1st round pick next year might be a really good one. Its a bad team with a rookie QB.

Barmore wasn’t even a starter at Alabama.
He only blew up because of his performances in the CFP. There’s a reason he want picked tonight.

I’m not a fan of the Parsons pick but the real missed opportunity was not taking that haul that the Giants got from the Bears:

20th pick
5th round pick
2022 first rounder
2022 4th rounder.

That 2022 first rounder has a chance to be a top ten pick. Feels like we could have traded down and then taken Newsome or Farley at 20.
Biggest question of the draft. If cowboys passed that up they are dumb.

Still the wrong move. If Surtain or Horn was there, fine. You have to maximize the value of the pick. A first rounder from a bad team would have been well worth it. Giants probably have a top 12 pick next year in addition to their own.

Bears won't be that bad next year. Middle of the pack at worst. They made the playoffs with Mitch & Foles. Dalton & Fields is an upgrade at QB.

How do we know they offered this to us?
Simple. Yet people are getting all worked up when they have no confirmation if it was even offered. Why anyone wants to waste any mental energy about this is beyond me.

The folks whose knee jerk reaction was "how do you know Chicago even offered Dallas the package of picks" ? Well, those folks don't follow the draft. Its all over the internet and now we have Jerry talking about it and admitting we passed on the offer.
Dude the link you posted was straight opinion. Bears make sense as a trade partner isn’t any confirmation at all. Just went through that article it’s pure speculation. No real source has confirmed any conversations. My advice is don’t get too worked up about rumors, but hey maybe you’re into that sort of thing.

Exactly what I'm saying in another thread.

If and when I hear that Chicago KNEW they had to go to ELEVEN, and in NO WAY 10, I'll buy that they couldn't swing that deal.

Bottom line is Parsons now needs to pan out that much more because we passed on a first rounder from a bad team for him.

Either way he replaces a mistake. Great.

You and I get our props when that pick is 7th overall next year.

If Parsons ends up being Devon White, all worth it.

Lets watch.

I love next year picks in trade. Teams depreciate them so much. They're just giving draft value away.

One of the bonuses of having a Owner/GM should be cashing in on the steeper future discounting by staff with shorter time horizons than an owner.

I would have *much* preferred that haul from the Bears.

That was a nice offer.
Not sure we got that offer, but it would've taken us out of that upper tier of players that included Slater and Parsons.

And, fwiw, in draft trade circles their offer to the Giants was about 60-70 pts over value (5% or so) and Phillies to us was 70 over assumed value as well.

not a given, then why the hell did they trade a 3rd to move ahead of the Giants?
You know Garrett would of grabbed Devonte Smith. Eagles made a smart move there, just that we benefitted from it

And you know that was offered to the Cowboys because...?

The Bears knew damn well Dallas wasn't taking a QB.

Right, which is why it only made sense they ask us first. It's cheaper.

If I were Jerry, I would have refused that too. That does absolutely nothing to help the Cowboys in this draft. It pretty much screws this draft up while the Bears pick up their franchise QB.

I would have accepted nothing less than a 2nd from the bears in this draft. Go from there. That helps both teams this draft. They can take their 5th and 4th rounder next year and shove it sideways. I hope Jerry told them exactly that.

If we did that deal I bet half of the people complaining now would say “great so we missed out on all the defensive studs just so jerry can pick more busts”. Just because a deal is available for one team does not mean it was available for us- relationships in this league matter. Even if it was there, if the cowboys feel that strongly about parsons then I’m glad they stuck to their plan.

we have a lot of ammunition in this draft and while you can never have too many picks we still have opportunities here for us

Yea, I would have liked to have had the Bears' first round pick this year and next year. But here's what I keep coming back to:

1. We don't know if the Bears offered it to the Cowboys.
2. Some fans fall in love with extra picks and extra first round picks. But the goal of a first-round pick is to get a sure-fire player. If the Cowboys feel Parsons is a sure-fire player would you just give him/that up just so you can say you've got two first-round picks next year? You still have to convert those high picks into players, and who's to say Parsons won't be better than the two picks we would make next year had the Cowboys traded with the Bears?
3. The Giants needed a wide receiver, which there were plenty of top ones in this draft. The Cowboys needed defense. So when the run on the best two corners happened, we were left with getting the best defender left, which was Parsons, according to scouting services. There weren't many elite defenders in this draft. We got one.

I didn't like the Parsons pick because I don't know if the Cowboys have the culture for him to thrive. But I have been wrong before, and I hope I am now. Nevertheless, he's a Cowboy now, and I'm going to support him and hope we can tap his potential. But he's a specimen, and if his head is on correctly, he should dominant. He has prototypical size, height, weight and speed (4.37 for a linebacker is no joke). And he fulfills a need. LVE is used goods and Jaylon "the Skater" Smith is damaged goods. Actually, both are damaged goods. We need to revamp our linebacking core anyway, so this is a good pick.

I'm hoping that it will be a great pick. At any rate, we need defense, and the front office didn't disappoint - if Parsons' hype is real.

It does not matter. The good Cowboys got Micah Parsons. The bad Jerry did a trade down. The ugly he traded within the division to the Eagles who drafted a WR and we have no CBs.

Sh... just lost Caleb Farley to the Titans.
Giants were drafting Smith if the Eagles weren't.

Its all over the internet. Chicago and Dallas have been talking about a blockbuster trade for weeks. We passed and NY cashed in. This only looks good if Parsons becomes a pro bowler.
In principle, it should cost Chicago more to move up 2 more spots or do you think the deal was so good that we have taken the same deal regardless? If it costs more to trade with us, why would Chicago give us more when they could do the same thing for a bit less with the Giants?
