Did we rob the Iggles?

Didnt we come out on the plus side on the trade value chart? By how much?

Yes. No question. Anxious to see what the Cowboys do at 84 to complete this trade.

Nada. The Egals are tickled drafting Bama's Heisman winner. They were in desperate need of a WR. We rob the Egals last year w/Lamb.

The bears picked after us..... so no way in hell were we drafting a WR. No way were we drafting a QB. Am I the only one thinking that it was obvious the bears would take fields, and the WR the Iggles took would have been sitting there at 12? Why would they trade up and give us their 3rd rd pick for a player that was gonna be there for them anyways?
Because they watched as both cb went off the board right in front of the Cowboys. Nothing they could do.

Eagles snaked the Giants
Once Philly took Smith, then NY traded down

now we did get the better end of that trade, value-wise
Dropping 2 spots and getting a late 3rd is pretty good
Got the same player we would've taken at 10, plus got the 84th pick for “free”

No other way to look at it. Dallas basically were gifted with a late 3rd round pick. Eagles probably asked Denver first so as not to give it to the Cowboys. But were refused since Denver suspected Dallas would take Surtain.

Ah... I missed that. Makes sense now... damn if the Giants didnt get a freaking haul for that pick to take Fields. Begs the question of why did we not trade with the bears? The Giants absolutely made out like bandits on that deal.

Are you really asking if a #1 WR will help a QB????

Smith was going to an NFC east rival regardless. One of the teams was offering a 3rd rounder to take him, may as well take it. We'll have to play him twice in the Eagles instead of the Giants, but a top 100 pick is nice[/QUOTE]

Uhm.... have you seen how amazing number 1 receivers become non existent when the backup qb takes over? Michael Thomas was beloe avg with no Brees. Antonio Brown would have been on the practice squad if he had played with the backups when Ben went down.

As a fantasy player, I know all to well how the stud WR becomes JAG when their stud QB goes down. The QB helps the WR far more than the WR helps the QB. Obviously, having good WRs is preferred...lol

Well, that’s assuming the Bears make the trade with the Giants which also potentially impacted our choice.

The Giants were expected to take Parsons . Until the Bears made them an offer they couldn’t refuse. Who knows , maybe the Giants take the Eagles WR.

I’d argue a 3rd isn’t a big ransom for Eagles to give up to get their guy. And it was basically a gift for us given we got our guy we prob take at # 10 since our CB’s are gone.

In the end it was the Giants trade that paved the way for us. The Eagles trade was a win win for both.

We weren't drafting for a WR, but the Eagles apparently were offering a high pick, to move up ahead of NYG for not only the featured WR they wanted,.. but moving ahead
of divisional Giants who apparently target the very same featured WR.

Time was running out, and that offer was on the table, ..and apparently there wasn't a true must have prospect on the board that Cowboys felt they could not risk losing, -even Parson.
So we pulled the trigger because we wanted the high rd pick.
Despite Philly being a close rival themselves.

A 3rd round pick for the must have featured WR they wanted .,.is not a robbery at all, imo.
What still baffles me is why the hell did Eagles feel they had to move down from their original 6th overall pick ,,in the first place ?
you never know who would have surprisingly

I think I would've asked for a 2nd round for just two picks down. Just to find out how badly Philly wanted Dovante Smith.

But to come out with Parsons … and a 3rd round pick ?

The trade itself wasn't overly great compensation, but if Jerry wanted to keep Smith away from the Giants, and get a 3 why not? What Jerry's trade told me he fears the Giants more than the Eagles.

The flaw is assuming the Giants would have traded with the Bears if Smith was on the board.

I think when Philly took Smith, the Giants then entertained the move down. Philly knew the Giants wanted Smith so they had to make the trade.

this is also what I was thinking. NYG ended up taking Toney with their first, another WR. Everyone would have preferred Smith over him. So then you have to ask, is Toney + next year’s 1 better than DeVonta Smith? I’m happy Philly got him... and for NYG with Rodgers and Stafford out of the north, Chicago could maybe win 8-9 games.

Suddenly it’s Toney and a late teen’s pick next year or Smith. I think Smith is the safer bet there, and giants maybe did too.

We got +70 on trade value chart.

But this trade benefitted both teams imo.

My favorite part is there was a strong chance Philly was looking at WR at 6 before the Dolphins trade. Chase went at 5 and we already took Reagor last year, who plays Waddle’s WR position. So there’s a plausibility it was going to be Smith there, and we got a free 1st out of it by giving Dallas a 3
