How do you feel about the Parsons pick?

Keep telling yourself that. Whatever you need for the Cowboys to look better. Lower that limbo bar of expectations.

i haven't said anything about how they look or don't. just that you can't really base your future drafts on how past picks have panned out. I'm not particularly thrilled with how things played out.

Fair enough.

Greetings
After listening again to JJ & Sean Lee @ Lee's final presser, it all comes together & makes sense. JJ luvs him some Sean Lee, wants another. I believe Lee had some input on Parsons. This LB unit will be FAST. Those huge RB holes last year will fill much quicker. Last year's scheme sucked- almost everyone looked lost. Suspect this year's front 7 scheme will be simple: DL attack the QB and tackle the RB on the way to the QB with LB speed to fill gaps. When Rolando McClain was added, years back, the D was much better (when he wanted to play) and they found someone even better.
I played LB in HS, a lifelong Buckeye fan and watched Parsons on B1G, They guy jumps off the screen in games with his speed, beats double-teams, has a case of nasty and doesn't whiff on tackles. Did ok covering RB on swing passes. The guy brings an attitude the Cowboys needed.
With Neal said to play some LB, looks like the front office actually has a plan for this year. "Strong like" for the pick considering Surtain was gone, plus a 3rd.

The knock on Parsons is he doesn’t have a ton of experience in coverage...which is fair.

There is nothing supporting “he can’t cover.”

LBs that are good at it are elite athletes with instincts...he’ll be fine.
Correct.

Saying a guy can't cover just because he wasn't asked to do it much is quite lame. And when he was asked to cover, he "showed comfort and ease of movement when doing so, generating excellent depth on his drops and bounding out of his breaks while keeping track of the ball."

So, in reality, he can cover.

I don’t hate the player, I hate poor decision making.
Yeah, you have now spent 12, 19 & 34 on LB'ers and 1 is definitely a bust, 1 is undecided but health concerns and 1 will play his first meaningful snap in something like 20 mths when he takes the field in Sept but at least he doesn't have any known medical issues that I am aware of.
Plus you have investments in later round LB'er that couldn't get on the field last year as well as free agent investment.
The dumb *** tax is steep for drafting serious risk with premium picks.

Wolf and Jaylon were huge mistakes that never should've been drafted before the 4th. Parsons is a complete stud who has a very high floor and has a great chance of being the best player from this draft. Should've been drafted top 5.

Don't quit drafting any position just because you failed in the past. That's dumber than taking Jaylon and Wolfie to begin w/.

Exactly my point. It’s refreshing to find someone else who understands.

Absolutely agree about Jaylon. Wolf certainly shouldn't have been taken in the first, not sure where would have been appropriate.

Agree you have to try to correct the situation but the bigger point is that you can't improve your team if you keep swinging & missing with premium picks especially on a position that isn't premium to begin with. Just a glaring example of why this organization has been middle of the road for the last quarter century.

He has speed and can be taught to cover if he can't.

Can't teach a guy who covers well how to run fast.

I have one major concern about him for now....did his superior athleticism allow him to make a nice college highlight reel that won't translate?

I doubt that. I think he will be fine....but he needs to be at least on par with 2018 LVE/Jaylon to justify the pick.

Lookit, I wasn't enamored with taking corners at #10. Optimally, there would be a DT or edge worth that slot, and they go with that position. When the corners weren't there (and I wasn't the least bit upset), to me, a trade back was the best option. Taking another offensive lineman would indicate a problem where this team cannot get a good offensive line without wallpapering the group with first round picks. It would also continue to discrepancy in spend between the offense and defense.

This draft has and had huge positional holes in it - no elite edge rushers, no dominant interior defensive linemen, no true ballhawks at corner. The Cowboys may have had two trade down options. One, we know, and they took it - getting another Day 2 pick to move down two slots. The other, we can only assume, was to trade down to the Bears slot, and get a first rounder next year. I would have done the second rather than the first, but we will never know. With what we know, and what they ended up doing, they took the best on-field player on the board. Parsons, if the stars align and he fully develops, can be a versatile monster in this defense. He can rush the passer, make plays sideline to sideline and be effective against the run. He's not fully developed, but he has physical traits that can't be taught. His immaturity is a real concern, but hopefully being a father makes him grow up. He certainly won't be given the tough love necessary in Dallas with Uncle Jerry in charge.

I'm less concerned about the previously sunk cost in LVE and Jaylon Smith. That watch can't be unwound. Those picks were not worse than Taco Charlton, but clearly they didn't work out. This defense has resembled a donut for years. This is one pick to fill the hole down the middle. Not the position I wanted, but it wasn't a bad selection, hence my indifference.
